Is it just me? Jubilee clothes etc

At my DD's school they are having a Jubilee lunch on Friday and have to wear red, white and blue. So we went out to find a top to wear today. Lots of the shops had loads of red, white and blue for adults including actual specific Jubilee t-shirts but very little for children. Is it just me that finds this so confusing? Lots of DC will probably have parties/lunches etc including dressing up. But what adult wants to wear a Jubilee t-shirt or coordinating red, white and blue clothes?

I find it like this for other things too. Like when my teen DS was younger it was hard to find a Christmas top/jumper for him, yet the men's section was full of them?! I really don't understand!

Fast fashion is bad enough, throwing extra tat in like this which will be worn once then binned / “kindly” donated to charity is throwing fuel on the fire.

This. I bloody hate the "go to Asda and buy something for £3". It's absolutely not the message we should be giving children when the planet is melting around our ears.

I don't understand the idea of going out to buy something.
Surely you just have a rummage in the wardrobe and they can wear something that is red, OR white OR blur OR any combination of those.
Borrow from a cousin or friend or neighbour if siblings really and truely don't have anything in any of those colours.
Or charity shop.

Glad it's not just me.
Surely the whole point of them not specifying Union Jack clothing is that the kids are bound to have these colour clothes already.

Carpetmoth · 25/05/2022 19:17

PE t-shirts from Asda are a good/ easy buy (I ordered them in for last weekend) £4 for a pack of 2 plain ones and can have red, white or blue. They will do as summer extras and probably next year as we got the next age. I could have stuck with the white PE one DD has but she wears them twice a week already.

SickAndTiredAgain · 25/05/2022 19:19

I'm surprised people are buying new clothes for this. They aren't unusual colours, don't most people have blue jeans/leggings and then either a red or white or blue (or any combination of the above) t shirt?

Fireworksatforty · 25/05/2022 19:19

Mine are just wearing existing red white and blue clothes.

PortalooSunset · 25/05/2022 19:25

I'd suspect the kids' stuff is already sold out tbh rather than doesn't exist.

Pottedpalm · 25/05/2022 19:26

@fyn That dress is gorgeous!

We went in Primark, H&M and Peacocks. Managed to get a red t-shirt in New Look. I can't afford to get something to be worn once but this will be used all over the summer.

I'm amazed not of these shops had any Tshirts in red white or blue. Although I'd be surprised if a child didn't have anything suitable already in the wardrobe in any of those colours to be fair, it's about the most inclusive non uniform day they could do.

I think the girls departments are full of a lot of pastel rather than primary colours. We did look in the boys and there were some but with slogans and pictures my DD wouldn't wear. Nothing plain until we looked in New Look!

I didn't realise Jubilee clothing was a 'thing', and I agree most adults would not be interested in owning anything Jubilee specific. But, it should be easy enough to find plain white, red or blue tops for either sex which would be much more useful as could be worn again.

You would think! But no! We finally found plain tops in New Look.

Our nursery is having a jubilee tea party for parents and children and have asked for themed clothes. I’m just going to wear a navy dress, surely most people have something that is blue! I’ve bought my daughter this dress because she can wear it again but most children must have a blue or white top! www.next.co.uk/g644419s3/971245#971245

She has some navy leggings but wanted a top to go with them.

Surely pastel red or blue is fine?

Well, she does need clothes to wear in general over the summer, so I do need to buy things at one point so now is as good a time as any! Yes, she has navy leggings but wanted a top to go with them.

My DD got a red t-shirt she will wear all summer, I wouldn't have bought a one use Jubilee t-shirt anyway, but saw them in the shops for adults.

Doesn't every child own an item of clothing that's either red, white or blue? It's not like you actually need to go out and buy something special.

Mine don’t seem to. Well one has a blue party dress but it’s not really suitable for school.
I got some red polo shirts from the school section in Asda, £3 for a pack of 2.

That's a really good idea for getting basic t-shirts.

Tap up your local brexity flag shagger. They'll have loads of patriotic clothing.

I saw a post on Facebook showing how to remove the back from a union jack paper napkin and glue onto a tshirt using plastic. Only good for 1 wear tho..... Might be worth a try if you can't find anything.

Seriously? This is bonkers. Why?!?

WarOnSlugs · 25/05/2022 19:45

Having read all of this insanity I am so glad I will not be in the country next week.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 25/05/2022 19:48

Like they don't own blue jeans and a red or white top? Then just buy a headband of the other colour and you're done
