Is it just me? Jubilee clothes etc

At my DD's school they are having a Jubilee lunch on Friday and have to wear red, white and blue. So we went out to find a top to wear today. Lots of the shops had loads of red, white and blue for adults including actual specific Jubilee t-shirts but very little for children. Is it just me that finds this so confusing? Lots of DC will probably have parties/lunches etc including dressing up. But what adult wants to wear a Jubilee t-shirt or coordinating red, white and blue clothes?

I find it like this for other things too. Like when my teen DS was younger it was hard to find a Christmas top/jumper for him, yet the men's section was full of them?! I really don't understand!

No, she doesn't. If she did I wouldn't be schlepping round the shops!

Well exactly! None of us are going out desperately trying to find something suitable for the fun of it Grin

Lulu1919 · 25/05/2022 19:48

Tesco

LunaLoveFood · 25/05/2022 19:52

Ours have done the same. Most of the children wore their pe kit which happens to be white t shirt with red bottoms.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 25/05/2022 19:54

Most kids would have blue joggers, jeans or shorts . Most have a white top. Red would probably be the least likely although there are going to be loads of kids with red or blue football shirts.

Get them all England tops then they can wear them to cheer on the Lionesses in July. 😁

Surely pastel red or blue is fine?

Yes, it is, but there wasn't anything like that until we got to New Look. The tops in there were actually pastel too but red and blue. The other shops had lots of pink, purple and green. Realise I didn't explain that very well in previous post.

Like they don't own blue jeans and a red or white top? Then just buy a headband of the other colour and you're done

She doesn't have jeans, but has blue leggings. No top in those colours which was why we were looking for one. But based on your plan we would still be trailing round the shops looking for hair accessories in a set colour. The t-shirt will get more wear, tbh.

White t-shirt. Blue Jeans / trousers

Short length of red ribbon pinned to t-shirt as a decoration.

I wouldn't be buying anything specially. Who does that?

SmellyWellyWoo · 25/05/2022 20:01

Your kids don't own ANY clothes which have red or white or blue on them? They are very common colours. You shouldn't need to buy new clothes specifically.

mogtheexcellent · 25/05/2022 20:02

I had to send my mum out to get a tshirt at her local branch for my daughter as they had no stock online. I was expecting loads of clothes things but nothing until very recently.

Anyhow DD looked ace in her tshirt today at the school party. Its just got a crown on so can be worn beyond the weekend celebrations in June.

Im not buying anything for myself. I might wear something in the colours if there was a party i was going to.

MrsMiddleMother · 25/05/2022 20:04

My boy will be wearing his arsenal kit to nursery (red shirt, white shorts) with a blue hoody.

If he didn't already have those colours I would have put him in just blue and white, I wouldn't specifically buy something red to have all 3 colours and certainly wouldn't buy specific jubilee items, quite surprising how much there has been though.

Then I'd be searching for ribbon! Who buys anything specially? Those who have DC who want to follow the theme and don't have anything suitable. I mean it's not as if DC don't need clothes anyway, I don't see the big deal of buying them a new t-shirt.

Mine don’t own any clothes in which red, white or blue or the dominant colours.
If they did, there wouldn’t be an issue Grin. And I imagine the OP wouldn’t have posted if her kids already had stuff they could wear.

People whose kids don’t own blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a length of red ribbon?

Stroopwaffels · 25/05/2022 20:10

I hate the idea of ANY disposable clothing which is supposed to be worn for one occasion and then binned. Fast fashion is polluting and not cool.

Must have been 2012 the school did something for the last Jubilee, the kids were told to wear red, white, blue or a combination of all three. Special clothing most definitely not required.

FrecklesMalone · 25/05/2022 20:11

Fuck buying anything specifically. What a waste of money. I cannot wait for this stupid sycophant nonsense is over.

Cheshiresun · 25/05/2022 20:12

I've been really disappointed trying to find 'Jubilee' clothes, T shirts, or even plain red, white or blue doesn't seem popular anymore!

Also little memorabilia like flags, patriotic cupcakes, hats haven't been able to find anything for weeks. I did see overpriced T shirts online but I mean in the shops.

Not that we'll even be here for the Jubilee weekend, we're on holiday, but children went into school in blue trousers and white tops. That's the best we could do! And did have homemade cupcakes with Union Jack Icing. I just thought it would be more of an event, no street parties around here either. I know my parents did for the Silver Jubilee!

AWellReadWoman · 25/05/2022 20:13

I got a really nice t-shirt for my DS from Next, they have some good children's Jubilee bits.

Well, exactly! And I have pointed it out now countless times, no she didn't have a suitable t-shirt.

How is it a waste of money when I imagine like all other DC she needs t-shirts for summer, anyway!

Have a look at charity shops. I was buying an outfit for a model of the queen today and there were loads of outfits. And children’s ones.

That was going to be the next shop if we didn't find anything in New Look!

Mol1628 · 25/05/2022 20:39

I would just get normal denim jeans from anywhere. Charity shops usually have plenty of childrens jeans in if you didn’t want to buy brand new. Then a top with vaguely the correct colours on?
My kids school did this last week and to be honest most people treat it as non uniform, didn’t notice any special jubilee clothing.

Silvercatowner · 25/05/2022 20:39

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/05/2022 18:22

I’d send mine in wearing an anarchy t shirt personally.

Can you get Sex Pistols tee shirts in children's sizes??

DockOTheBay · 25/05/2022 20:42

They've probably sold out because most kids will need them tomorrow/Friday.

What a massive waste of clothing. It will literally be worn once. You couldn't even hand it down to a relative to wear because nobody is going to wear an obvious jubilee top in 2024.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/05/2022 20:47

@Silvercatowner

I’d buy a black one and paint an anarchy sign in fabric paint.

Im a Republican. I find all this sick making. Looking forward to going out and about in the country on bank holiday hoping it won’t be busy because everyone will be at street parties.
