Is it just me? Jubilee clothes etc

At my DD's school they are having a Jubilee lunch on Friday and have to wear red, white and blue. So we went out to find a top to wear today. Lots of the shops had loads of red, white and blue for adults including actual specific Jubilee t-shirts but very little for children. Is it just me that finds this so confusing? Lots of DC will probably have parties/lunches etc including dressing up. But what adult wants to wear a Jubilee t-shirt or coordinating red, white and blue clothes?

I find it like this for other things too. Like when my teen DS was younger it was hard to find a Christmas top/jumper for him, yet the men's section was full of them?! I really don't understand!

Or maybe ‘Let them eat cake’

@Silvercatowner

I’d buy a black one and paint an anarchy sign in fabric paint.

Im a Republican. I find all this sick making. Looking forward to going out and about in the country on bank holiday hoping it won’t be busy because everyone will be at street parties.

Oh me too.

Asda have t-shirts with union jack's on. Nice not naff.

😂

Didiplanthis · 25/05/2022 20:59

My DS doesn't see why he can't wear his uniform of white shirt/ reddish jumper and blue/reddish tie 🤣

LemonPledge555 · 25/05/2022 21:02

I work in a supermarket and we have ladies red/white/blue T-shirts with silver embroidered 1952 on them… I live in Scotland and basically no one gives a shiny shite! Hardly any have sold and it’s all just so wasteful.

HairyScaryMonster · 25/05/2022 21:26

I agree, popped into a couple of places idly looking for something to accessorise DD's outfit and was surprised everything was pastels and only red white blue for little kids.

I would just get normal denim jeans from anywhere. Charity shops usually have plenty of childrens jeans in if you didn’t want to buy brand new. Then a top with vaguely the correct colours on?
My kids school did this last week and to be honest most people treat it as non uniform, didn’t notice any special jubilee clothing.

She doesn't wear jeans but we have blue leggings, we were just looking for a t-shirt.

They've probably sold out because most kids will need them tomorrow/Friday.

What a massive waste of clothing. It will literally be worn once. You couldn't even hand it down to a relative to wear because nobody is going to wear an obvious jubilee top in 2024.

We were just looking for a plain coloured t-shirt not a specific Jubilee one.

Are most people really interested in street parties? I doubt many people will be at them, but just enjoying the time off work.

I don’t know anyone who is going to a street party. People are just treating it like a long weekend. We’ll be out and about doing the usual weekend/school holiday stuff.

I did say to my DD it was a shame her school colour wasn't red or blue!

I saw these too for women. Who on earth would buy one??

My Dd has a white t shirt with blue writing on that she already has. She doesn't have anything red so I bought her a red scrunchie to wear in her hair. She informed me today that she hates scrunchies so she probably won't wear it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/05/2022 21:42

I think lots of people are having street parties. There’s loads round me, and l don’t really live in an area that’s big on the monarchy.

BlueSoul · 25/05/2022 21:43

DS has to dress up as a Prince or King. This is obviously a popular theme as it is nigh on impossible to buy a Prince outfit right now. I have had to be pretty creative but have put something together now. I wish we could have done red, white and blue as that would have been easier!

I must live in an area that’s even less ‘big on the monarchy’ then Grin

Wow.
This is ludicrous.
Let's all celebrate the life of a billionaire in clothes made by children for less than 10p a day.

This is beyond fucked up.
Seriously.
People buying into this should feel
Some fucking SHAME.

Changechangychange · 25/05/2022 21:52

We just put DS in a pair of blue joggers, his white PE tshirt and a red hoody. We didn’t buy anything special - if we hadn’t had one of those items he’d have been in blue and white only, or red and white.

Do you honestly not own anything red or blue? What colours does your child wear outside of school?

ReadyToMoveIt · 25/05/2022 22:00

Why do people keep asking the OP is she ‘honestly’ doesn’t own anything blue or white? If she did, I doubt she’d have been trawling shops for blue or white things, or posting this thread.
My son has some blue jeans and a red t-shirt (not that he needs to dress up for the jubilee, he’s at nursery and they’re not doing anything special). My daughters… no, they don’t. If they did, I’d be happily dressing them in the things they own and wouldn’t be resorting to buying a 2 pack of red polo shirts from Asda for £3 so that they meet the brief.
People don’t tend to try and make life difficult for themselves for no reason.

Here you go, plain red, white or blue T-shirts:

Slightly off topic, but today I saw jubilee bedding! Duvet cover and pillow cases. Who the actual is buying that? So bizarre.

Sprogonthetyne · 25/05/2022 22:10

Surely she already owns clothes that are either red white or blue, there pretty standard colours for clothing.

I mean, just an idea, but the OP may have already answered that question…

Honeyroar · 25/05/2022 22:23

I had to laugh in one charity shop a lady wanted to try on a red white and blue dress from the window. The shop assistant said it wasn’t going to be for sale until next week. The woman said she wanted to buy it for a jubilee party and the shop wouldn’t sell it because it was their display!
