Who will win between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation case

Egtermekaar · 25/05/2022 14:49

If you were jury in this case, how would you decide?

I think Johnny Depp will win because he had strong, reliable and consistent evidence of "his" case

I hope MN will allow debate about a matter of public interest.

I feel there has been a significant shift following the last two days inside court and the Kate Moss testimony is a very elegant cherry on the top for JD.

AH's team have really scored themselves some serious open goals and I feel missed some golden opportunities in their arguments and have had some poor representations and utterly bizarre witnesses.

I am calling JD as the winner, though in my view this case provides no winners, it's been grim on so many levels, neither came out well and this being played out live makes the entire thing so unpalatable and has setback the business of legally challenging DV 50years.

4am · 25/05/2022 15:00

I find the whole case really interesting.

One party keeps tripping up with conflicting evidence whilst the other party seems to be more steady.

I'm finding the legal system and delivery really interesting, particularly having sat as a jury member in a UK Court (many many years ago).

In life its hard to believe anyone who unveils themselves to have lied to your face .....

ChoccyJules · 25/05/2022 15:06

I keep seeing things like ‚both as bad as each other‘ but having watched it (and read the published London trial documents) I disagree.
JD has only been shown to like a drink and has dabbled heavily in drugs, neither of which were a secret.
AH has admitted to hitting him on tape, seems to have used another woman’s abuse story as her own, lied about charity donations, tried to take him for millions after a short marriage and hasn’t produced a single witness who saw JD ever lay a finger on her.
When she first accused him, I believed her, I believed the photos, I stopped watching his stuff, stuck him on the abuser pile. Now so many have testified about the timing, the make up, the desperation to get money, I nomlonger believe her.
So for me, on the jury, I vote for JD.

tabulahrasa · 25/05/2022 15:09

Who I think will win and what I’d decide if I were on the jury are two different things tbh.

I think he’ll win, because he’s got better lawyers, more money and for some reason loads of public support.

But I’ve watched a fair bit of the trial - mostly unwillingly tbh, but it’s being pushed on every social media platform I’m on.

But, I’m clearly watching a different trial to everyone else as I see a vile man, with a history of violence, drug and alcohol problems - who writes messages in his own blood FFS, it’s not exactly a stretch to believe he hit her.

He’s repeatedly taking her to court, including purposefully picking a state that neither of them have anything to do with just so he could get all that footage of “his side” out.

He had plenty of public support from the industry, he could have literally said it was a volatile relationship, done a quick visit to rehab and it’d have blown over, he’s the one doing damage to his career.

She doesn’t come across particularly well, but, I believe he hit her.

MarshaBradyo · 25/05/2022 15:09

I haven’t followed it enough and completely missed KM testified

I do find the legal system fascinating after jury service like pp

obviously different as it’s in the US, not least due to being broadcast and in public domain

Re question I haven’t watched enough to give an opinion but will be interesting to hear what jury say

starlingdarling · 25/05/2022 15:25

I haven't seen a lot of it but I'd struggle to decide if he was abusing her or if she was abusing him and pushing every button she could to get a rise out of him. Some of the bits I've seen make it seem like the latter.

You are clearly watching the same trial as me, I fully agree with you.

I think a lot of folks are basing their opinion on internet memes, and gutter press headlines as opposed to the actual trial.

DarleneSnell · 25/05/2022 15:38

I don't know the technical legal basis on which either party would "win", but I don't think JD is a wife-beater. A druggie/alcoholic oddball, for sure - but from the trial footage I believe him over her.

Let's face it whether he actually beat AH or not, the trial has revealed awful other things about JD, and he's tanked in everyone's estimations. I can't see why he would actively bring such terrible publicity on himself unless he felt that particular allegation was worth defending.

What do you see when you see her?

steff13 · 25/05/2022 15:54

Regardless of the jury's decision, I think Johnny Depp has already won.

I agree. The outcome is in essence, irrelevant. JD did what he set out to do, prove AH has lied and exaggerated on many occasions and that she has been violent towards him. AH will be lucky if she works in Hollywood again, knowing how high public dislike is for her, it would be an indicator that a film starring her would not do well.

sickofthisnonsense · 25/05/2022 16:01

It isn't about belief though is it? It's about proof.
Has JD proved that AH is a liar?
Has AH proved that he abused her?

girlmom21 · 25/05/2022 16:07

I think they should throw the case out. They're clearly both very unhealthy, toxic individuals who should leave each other alone and spend their money on some serious therapy instead of a public smear campaign.

Absolutely agree with you. What he is currently doing regarding taking her to court and choosing to that in the way he has, confirms to me that he is an abusive piece of shit person. He is doing what many abusers do: using the courts to hurt his ex. He didn’t have to take this to court in at least 2 different countries, he was always going to be ok because he is Johnny fucking Depp. Rich, white, male and incredibly popular- he has God like status to many people it seems, his career would have been fine, long term, or at least not adversely effected by AH’s allegations.

I could be wrong but didn’t JD start getting himself a reputation for being a pain in the arse on projects anyway, regardless of AH? Bad behaviour, late to set etc. Maybe he’s hoping to redeem himself by winning this case to pave over all that? A sort of “it wasn’t my fault, I didn’t wreck my own career, the woman is lying!”

Totally agree with this too. Do the jury really not go home and look at SM/news sites about it? I don’t see how they won’t be biased if they do!

DimplesToadfoot · 25/05/2022 16:16

I hope they both lose. First JD loses his 50 mills defamation case and then Amber loses her 100mills counter claim.

I dont believe half of what Amber says and I think JD is vile. With JD saying "Amber gave as good as she got" I do believe he hit her.

As for which way will the jury go ... I haven't got a clue 😕

Soapboxqueen · 25/05/2022 16:20

I don't think either side will win the court case.

I think JD has won though.

I think she's finished.

Depends on how influenced the jurors have become by social media ( i dont believe they have stayed off)

The whole case is a defamation case and he stated that her article made him lose roles and he is suing her that (nothing to do her being abusive.. but they and everyone else have all focused on this and I think that’s what he wanted really and to humiliate her as he promised so in that sense he has won)

if the jurors do their job properly he should lose because they can’t 100% prove he DIDN’T abuse her and her article was about him… the reason why her side focused so much on the drink and drugs is to show there were other reasons for losing roles

She's proven herself a liar. They had a toxic relationship but she comes off far worse.

Nothappyatwork · 25/05/2022 16:48

And will the winners meet the winners of Vardy vs Rooney in the final
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I think it’s a very sad day for the victims of domestic violence male or female because nobody is gonna believe a word that anybody says any more basically and that situation is exactly what abuses want. Really couldn’t of worked out better for violent pigs.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 25/05/2022 17:00

I can't see what relevance at all the km test has at all?

It was a rumour, and she did fall down stairs?
It's a misguided rumour that ah had Heard?

If ah had made it up and km never fell downstairs and there were no prior rumours I can see why it's more relevant.

I can't see how JD csn win.
It's clear that ah had massively over played the violence but the time with her eyes and nose are clear.
Many people have said they saw her damaged...so that sinks his cases.
