To think Prince William preaching about climate change is another example the monarchy should not exist

Is he having a laugh? His wife and him parade around in designer clothes costing thousands of pounds, live on multiple properties, fly around the world often in jets and he is telling US to do our bit?

I had a chat with DH earlier and we thought it would be a good idea for the queen to hand straight to William but now I'm not sure either and just wish the lot of them would go away and cease to exist as a royal family.

They're taking the piss - when will we no longer stand for a monarchy?

part of me agrees with you OP but another part thinks well, he has a voice and a strong public presence and someone has to big up these things so he might as well make use of his voice in a positive way (even if he is a hypocrite)!.

josil · 08/05/2022 21:56

@muppamup yes but messages cannot be taken seriously but someone who is not leading by example, it just makes him look like a twit.

If he was a modest celebrity I'd agree with you - but he and his wife are the furthest from modest I can think of

I'm not sure what having money has to do with him using his voice?

I do think they need to scale down flights though

Meadowland · 08/05/2022 21:57

YANBU. Completely outdated and classist institution.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 08/05/2022 21:58

I’m simply not interested in listening to people so far removed from reality talk about anything.

Ratrick · 08/05/2022 21:58

Preaching about climate change is about the only worthwhile thing anyone in that family has ever done.

I’d love to see the back of all of them, but possible hypocrisy on climate change is a non-issue to me.

Malariahilaria · 08/05/2022 22:01

To my mind the Queen came from a different era when royalty was worshipped and the British had a huge empire. Charles and Wills need to learn to shut up and wave or naff orf. They can't lecture anyone about anything, they are ceremonial only. Smile and wave and shh.

RoseWindow · 08/05/2022 22:02

This is a ridiculous AIBU. No he’s not the best advert for green living, but neither are a lot of people. We all need to do our bit, we all need to talk about the reality of climate crisis. Regardless of how environmentally perfect we are or not. Everyone needs to change things. The more the merrier. It’s not ‘preaching’.

SkerryVore · 08/05/2022 22:04

I assume it's an attempt to be relevant in some way. Tough call for any member of the royal family, frankly.

The sooner the whole circus is disbanded, the better. Utterly ludicrous that the 'monarchy' even exists in 2022.

Absolutely. They are becoming more irrelevant by the day.

Exactly this!! Couldn't have said it better. You cannot tell people to stop doing something when you are the worst of everyone - it makes you look like an arrogant ass. I used to like William generally but I honestly cannot believe what he is thinking to tell normal people about this issue.

He clearly has no concept how hard it is to get through an normal week as a normal person - if he doesn't I wish the people around him could advise him better on what not to say.

What exactly is he actually doing to help climate change?

OP posts:
Dajeeling · 08/05/2022 22:05

Totally agree. Someone needs to have a word with many members of the family about hypocrisy and how it alienates people. Too many ‘yes men’ around clearly.

josil · 08/05/2022 22:06

Agree they all must be surrounding themselves with too many 'yes people'.

Just like the queen walking in with Prince Andrew the other day - they are Ill advised and need to go.

OP posts:
HermioneWeasley · 08/05/2022 22:06

Totally agree - three kids all with a massive carbon footprint, multiple large homes, multiple vehicles, flights, etc.

the sanctimonious prick can fuck off

josil · 08/05/2022 22:07

@HermioneWeasley I didn't even think about the fact they have three kids too you're right.

They are so out of touch it's sickening.

It's preaching if your own actions are laughably out of step with what you are telling others to do.

I've no time for the continuing monarchy and think it should be drastically slimmed down after the Queen's death but in terms of addressing climate change I doubt a lot of presidents are any better.

I don't care whether you had a chat with your husband about the issue though. What he thinks is of no interest to me.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 08/05/2022 22:10

The whole institution needs to be written off now. monarchy has no place in a modern democracy.

This.

Ratrick · 08/05/2022 22:19

The Queen also preaches about climate change from time to time. It’s odd how criticizing the children is so fashionable, but the Queen herself is seldom criticized for the same behaviour.

But yes, I’d be delighted to see the whole thing abolished tomorrow. If they continued to use whatever then remains of their platform for climate activism, that’d be positive.

Giraffesandbottoms · 08/05/2022 22:20

How come everyone on MN gets so pissed off if Harry is criticised but it’s fine to have a pop at William?

Actually emphasising individual changes is dangerous. ignores the systemic nature of climate change.
The biggest impact will come by redesigning infrastructure (public transport, food packaging etc) not forcing individuals to make changes while rich people sit pretty.

amitoooldforthisshit · 08/05/2022 22:24

And what would be the alternative to monarchy? living in a republic with president Blair and first lady Cherrie. 😖(shudders)

londonrach · 08/05/2022 22:25

Sadly op you right ..one thing op has shown me is royalty, celebrity etc not important. Your health and Your family is.
