To think Prince William preaching about climate change is another example the monarchy should not exist

Is he having a laugh? His wife and him parade around in designer clothes costing thousands of pounds, live on multiple properties, fly around the world often in jets and he is telling US to do our bit?

I had a chat with DH earlier and we thought it would be a good idea for the queen to hand straight to William but now I'm not sure either and just wish the lot of them would go away and cease to exist as a royal family.

They're taking the piss - when will we no longer stand for a monarchy?

I don't blame RF itself. All famous people are being ridiculous. They tell us about climate change and then drive away in their Range Rovers with 4L engines. Or travel on private planes. At the same time, we should eat grass and travel 30 miles on foot or practice staycation in our back gardens to stop climate change.

Yes, the speech from Katherine and William was, er, unexpected. I swear their advisors just do it to see if they can get away with it. "Get them to do it together, no titles, just comfort for the many" 'what? No HRHs? They love those, they'll never buy it' "Tenner says they will. Go on, dare you. And no uniforms and medals"

Do people always have to think of a Trump style presidency as an alternative to a monarchy. Why not copy Ireland. Their presidency works very well, much cheaper too. Having a "royal family" is embarrassing on the world's stage.

Have just listened to HRHs taking time out of their busy day to talk about MH for 60s. I was speechless.

Lol @Zilla1 where can I hear it? Was it a podcast?

someone may have recommended it already but the “Abolish the Monarchy” podcast is pretty good on this topic- “And what do you do?” By Norman Baker is a fascinating account of what the modern monarchy get up to as well, and on YouTube “The Man Who Shouldn’t be king” is very interesting/blood boiling

Roussette · 13/05/2022 20:03

"And what do you do" by Norman Baker ex member of the Privy Council and Cabinet Member is what I would like every Royalist to read.

An eye opener. I was wavering before I read this and felt uncomfortable probably since spider letters, Diana,

Here's a link...

@josil Am unsure but expect BBC iplayer/sounds or their HRH website. Just had 60s with comedy hand offs between the two HRHs and then mentioned in the news afterwards.

The whole idea of hereditary monarchy is outrageous in a 21 century democracy. Children being lined up for jobs for life, guaranteed to live in unimaginable splendour whatever they do - even associate with paedophiles or offering free access to monarchy for money! As for lecturing us on 'green issues', yes. Their attempt to stay relevant. Their expensive trips to the Caribbean proved a complete disaster that anybody with even moderate social awareness could have predicted. Yet, they, with the best education money can buy and with the most expensive advisors taxpayers pay for, could not.
Apparently they are now trying to be 'more approachable' and 'relevant' to the public now - including Kate dressing in less expensive outfits 😂. Couldn't make it up. All that she is known for in the press is her outfits, easily changed if she stopped popping out in different outfits at every opportunity or - wait - just wearing things twice and calling it 'economising'.

The nonsense trotted out about tourism - tourist will come with or without a monarchy. Do people think royals are in residence when they visit the palaces? Palaces over the world are accessible and highly visited with no monarchy in existence.

Blossomtoes · 13/05/2022 20:53

It might be if we actually had a democracy. Perhaps we should sort out a system where a party can get into government when more people vote against it than for it and worry about the monarchy when real democracy is achieved.

Even me with a meage PR/Sales background could've managed it better than their advisors.

So yes. I agree.

StoneofDestiny · 13/05/2022 21:06

Yes @blossomtoes, but the royal family are simply irrelevant to government whether it's first passed the post or proportionally represented.
Nothing of any significance in day to day life changed for anybody when The Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, Diana or Philip died, or when Harry and Meghan 'stepped down', they just slotted in some equally irrelevant people to cut ribbons and attend Ascot. Look at the press coverage now - it's all Sophie, her daughter and Beatrice and Eugenie (one currently arguing over wanting a palace at Windsor that William wants too! You couldn't make it up - spare palaces and free homes for the super rich). Shameless

DdraigGoch · 13/05/2022 21:13

I bet that his footprint is still smaller than that of his brother.

StoneofDestiny · 13/05/2022 21:20

Exactly - or make our own model. But whatever - at least Trumps kids didn't get automatic jobs for life because he was President.
currently we have Charles still serving an apprenticeship in his 70's and William serving the same apprenticeship and he's nearly 40! Kate is kept in splendour as the wife of the apprentice to the apprentice................a giant and expensive nonsense upheld by hard working taxpayers whose kids have to work hard and fight to get employed based on merit, not birth right.

Blossomtoes · 13/05/2022 22:45

the royal family are simply irrelevant to government whether it's first passed the post or proportionally represented

Then why did you say this?

The whole idea of hereditary monarchy is outrageous in a 21 century democracy

You can’t have it both ways. 🤷‍♀️

ICanSmellSummerComing · 13/05/2022 22:49

I've gone right off him and Kate.
I don't see them as relatable at all.

It's not Just them, it's the huge eco footprints all around thrm... staff, special planes, security etc.

He always looks unhappy and moody that's fine..he doesn't like this job .....

ICanSmellSummerComing · 13/05/2022 22:51

Charles serving an apprenticeship 😂.

I'm happy with a total scaled down monarchy.
Handful of castle... that is it.

Perhaps he's in a bad mood and is bored. I would be in his place.

TarasHarp55 · 14/05/2022 10:32

.

There are plenty of people who are personable and know how to conduct themselves at state occasions who would be happy to do the job for an annual salary and clothes allowance.

With the added bonus of not being saddled with the expense and security costs of a huge extended family. It's bonkers how much money we throw at this hugely wealthy family.

I don't understand this last post. How is it having it both ways?

Lolllllllllllll · 14/05/2022 10:39

How the royals can think they are so woke and yet still be so stupid that they don't realise that the monarchy is a completely outdated and redundant institution. The on,y way they would earn my respect is to step down

TarasHarp55 · 14/05/2022 11:44

Regarding William always looking miserable. I think it's resentment that he has duties to perform. It's a classic case of wanting your cake and eating it. He's always resented the press and the audacity of the public expecting to see what they're paying for. This sense of entitlement runs right through the royals. They actually think we should all be grateful for them.

Charles isn't even king yet he costs the taxpayers millions.....Why should they cost us so much before they even get the job. 🙄

Everything about them is wrong.

Because the statements contradict one another. I’d have thought it was pretty simple to comprehend.
