To be annoyed that Jude's ice cream have gone mostly vegan and are no longer gluten free?

Royally pissed off. And shouldn't labelling be better regulated to ensure only products made with real milk and cream (aka dairy) are called 'ice cream'? Oat paste should be marketed as something else.

Being the '1st carbon negative ice cream company' will not make any difference if the product is no good or cannot be eaten due to allergens🙄

Who's advising these companies?

@Carpy88999 😂😂 although my hay fever is definitely less severe these days!

OhLordyWhatNow · 02/05/2022 19:04

Or maybe, just maybe Pinks stuffy nose it's caused by plant pollen?

Dear me there's a lack of critical thinking on this thread.

PoseyFlump · 02/05/2022 19:06

It's just a bit of fun @OhLordyWhatNow 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only thing I see lacking is your of sense of humour. 😜

OhLordyWhatNow · 02/05/2022 19:19

Oh I have one. I just missed the wink on the end of the sentence and thought Carpy was carping on in the same vein as before.

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 19:20

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/05/2022 18:45

Question by all means @LoveInSlowMotion, but certain posters try to bully and call people liars if they don't agree with them (I'm not just talking about this thread either). If someone tries to bully me, like a lot of people I will dig my heels in.

@Innocenta I'm not prepared to make myself ill for the sake of animals or the planet and if that offends some random on the internet then so be it.

I hold my hands up, in other areas of my life I don't want to change. I'm going to have a bit of fun with my car, it won't be forever, I won't be able to get in and out in a couple of years! I'm afraid that other than when I buy meat I will buy whatever products are cheapest, vegan or not.

A genuine question for the vegans, do you take medication?

Nobody is bullying you. You yourself said that it is medical stuff making it impossible for you to eat plant based. That restriction doesn't apply to the rest of your life. You are choosing to buy non vegan products (even if we totally take food out of the equation; even if doubters like me 100% accept you are correct about needing to eat animal products) when you could live as a vegan in every other way apart from plant based eating.

This calls all your statements on the subject into question. You are annoyed at being challenged on this and so you've decided to claim you're being bullied.

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 19:23

@Double3xposure It's not different from any other restrictive medical condition affecting food. We should all be pushing for better options for people with all these restrictions - gluten free choices, nut free choices, dairy free choices, etc. Any serious dietary restriction is very difficult to live with.

There is no valid reason to blame vegans in general, nor with respect to Jude's in particular when they are using wheat in their dairy ice cream.

PoseyFlump · 02/05/2022 19:24

I always have a tub of Jude's vegan salted caramel in the freezer. Just discovered my DP has scoffed the lot. It'll have to be Little Moons instead 😋

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 19:26

@PoseyFlump We are brand hoppers! There are a lot more brands my wife and my mum can eat relative to what I can, so we experiment a bit, and my dad likes to get dairy occasionally even though he also genuinely loves the non dairy ice creams (will polish them off eagerly even with his dairy ice cream available!). Jude's has something I'm allergic to in it but I'm going to order some for the rest of the family after this thread Grin

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 19:27

My mum loves a vegan choc ice.

PoseyFlump · 02/05/2022 19:39

@Innocenta what's your favourite ice cream that suits your diet?

My elderly parents love vegan food. But then they come from an era where they ate meat on a Sunday as a luxury, not every single meal. None of this twenty wings in a bucket.

Yeah this does seem to be a thing. I used to have to take about 5 different things to not look a puffy red mess.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 02/05/2022 20:05

@successstories you've posted a few time and said food needs to be labelled as GF to be suitable for coeliacs. It doesn't.
Gluten must be shown in the ingredient/allergen label if it IS present.
It has to say 'May Contain' if there's a chance of cross contamination but if there's no gluten it does not have to be labelled as such. You do have to check the label for BROW (barley rice oats wheat) and if there aren't any it is free from.
The law states it must be listed if it's included in the product. The law doesn't say it has to be labelled GF if it isn't in it.
Otherwise even an apple would have to say 'gluten free' on it.

This is my understanding of it too.
it would be bonkers if we really did have to label everything as gluten free / dairy free / any too allergen free for it to be actually free from the allergens.
can you imagine every single vegetable, fruit, bottled water etc being labelled as certified free from

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/05/2022 20:39

@Carpy88999, although I have Hay fever I think it's made worse by being hit in the face with a 5kg medicine ball a few years ago - my nose has never been the same since!

@Innocenta, nowhere have I claimed to want to lead a vegan lifestyle in any way, shape or form. I have explained over and over again that I have stomach problems and if you choose not to believe me that's fine. You live your life, I'll live mine. Oh and BTW I never called you a bully, I said some people are bullies...

OhLordyWhatNow · 02/05/2022 20:39

@HumourReplacementTherapy

It's Barley, Rye, Oats, and Wheat; not rice.

I agree, foods that naturally do not gluten do not need labelling. All coeliacs know a carrot does not contain gluten or avenin

However, free from and GF 'alternative' foods like bread and pasta do need Coeliac UK certification to guarantee suitability for coeliacs.

OhLordyWhatNow · 02/05/2022 20:42
  • not contain gluten

Why did you join the conversation if you don't have anything to contribute, then? If you still wouldn't eat plant based even if you did not have the medical problems, then you're just any average person who lives unethically.

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 20:44

As bonkers as this sounds, I will PM it to you because my precise combination of Stuff is outing.

(Yes, non vegans, I know it seems silly, but this is true!)

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 20:46

Also, @PinkSparklyPussyCat - I never said that I don't believe you have stomach problems. That is an entirely bad faith misinterpretation of what I have actually said. I wholly believe that you do have these problems. I'm not necessarily 100% convinced they mean you can't eat plant based, but you could be right and I could be wrong. I am fairly sure your stomach problems don't necessitate a particular car or handbag, though. Wink

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/05/2022 20:47

Because it's a public forum and I can join any fucking conversation I like @Innocenta. You never know, I might pick up some ideas that might help me, give me a few of things I can eat and make small changes. Obviously not from the likes of you as you're too busy calling me a liar.

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 20:48

I have not called you a liar, @PinkSparklyPussyCat

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/05/2022 20:50

How the fuck has my handbag come into the conversation?! Just so you know, my handbag isn't leather, it's a nylon backpack ok?

Innocenta · 02/05/2022 20:51

@PinkSparklyPussyCat It's just an example. You don't have to swear; it's just a discussion.
