Royally pissed off. And shouldn't labelling be better regulated to ensure only products made with real milk and cream (aka dairy) are called 'ice cream'? Oat paste should be marketed as something else.

Being the '1st carbon negative ice cream company' will not make any difference if the product is no good or cannot be eaten due to allergens🙄

Who's advising these companies?

Yes @Innocenta ironically, we vegans appreciate way more than meat eaters just how terrible gf options taste.

PoseyFlump · 01/05/2022 21:26

in comparison to the cruelty eating animal products causes.

I accidentally saw a short clip of a duck being roughly forced fed with a metal tube. That was a few years ago and I can still see it clearly. A human being came up with that idea. Just how the hell?

I'm a vegan and don't feel the need to make a crying post every time a company changes a recipe and feels the need to add fucking milk powder for whatever reason.

Put your big girl pants on and find an alternative I'm sure it's not that difficult.

100% with you on the random addition of milk powder to random things. Been caught out a couple of times, v bad dairy intolerance.

Haven’t Jude’s ice cream had vegan friendly versions for a while.

v grateful for expanding vegan menus here.

successstories · 01/05/2022 21:31

I accidentally saw a short clip

Will you start proselytising on this thread? Very tone deaf and distasteful

Foie gras I presume. It’s horrendous. Honestly, the things I’ve seen and heard are horrific. You could easily just give up on humans. But I’ve also seen some of the best of humanity. There is hope. ❤️

PoseyFlump · 01/05/2022 21:33

It’s an ice cream that actually still does not contain gluten.

PoseyFlump · 01/05/2022 21:36

@LoveInSlowMotion I presume it was. Once you're already vegan it's harder to make yourself watch these documentaries. Humans really are capable of the unthinkable.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 01/05/2022 21:55

On their website, the Salted Caramel ice cream (non vegan) is certified Gluten Free

It doesn't state specifically that it's gluten free.

It does:

successstories · 01/05/2022 22:37

That's odd. Could it be an old cached image?

You can't see the Gluten Free wording if you access this link

www.judes.com/flavours/ice-cream

OP posts:
RumpoleoftheBaileys · 01/05/2022 22:40

That's the site I'm on.

I'm neither GF nor vegan,

The answer to this is to contact Judes.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 01/05/2022 22:42

successstories · 01/05/2022 22:48

That's very weird indeed.

The GF wording was not in the tub either when I tried to purchase it recently (it was there in the past as I always check)

Perhaps it is worth contacting them.

OP posts:
Innocenta · 01/05/2022 22:50

Looking at the website, there is wheat flour in the brownie and cookie components in the dairy ice creams. So blaming the non gf status on vegans is rather unfair!

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 01/05/2022 22:51

Good luck.

It must be incredibly frustrating to have had a reliable food removed. Equally, the responsibility is not with those who are vegan, but with the company. I hope they can accommodate you all.

SilverSplitsTheBlue · 01/05/2022 22:54

PoseyFlump · 01/05/2022 19:41

I don't dislike vegans, but their choices should not impact others.

Yet meat eaters choices are impacting the planet and our lives. You are literally saying ice cream is more important!!

Well put. At the heart of this argument we should remember that.

You choose to be vegan. You could eat all those foods if you wanted to, but you CHOOSE not to.

Coeliac disease is not a choice, it's a medical condition and a gluten free diet is the 'treatment' so when gluten free options are replaced with vegan options, yes, we get annoyed

LoveInSlowMotion · 01/05/2022 23:20

You choose to be vegan. You could eat all those foods if you wanted to, but you CHOOSE not to.

My friend is a celiac. I know how poorly she felt before being diagnosed and how long it took her to get used to her gluten free diet. I know how it has impacted her and support the need for GF products.

However, my friend would never be so dismissive of my vegan diet. I don’t see eating animal products as an option. Sometimes the smell of meat cooking makes me feel ill. I couldn’t actually chew or swallow those foods without being sick, so no, it’s not really a choice. It’s very different to a medical condition, I fully acknowledge that, but I could not just choose to eat animal products.

successstories · 01/05/2022 23:31

Why are you dismissive of those who don't want to be plant based then? Respect and tolerance goes both ways

OP posts:
successstories · 01/05/2022 23:42

This thread is really unkind!

Demanding 'kindness' is rather brazen when some posters on this thread admit to be actively campaigning for whole food groups that the majority of people rely on for nutrition (and have done so for thousands of years) to be withdrawn.

They say that they've seen many vegan bashing threads popping up recently (this is not one of them BTW). Well, maybe people are indeed growling and reacting to constantly being provoked by inane activism. They may also be annoyed at seeing companies they could previously trust being brainwashed and catering for these lobbies. What did you expect?

Farming animals is ruining the planet. Its not possible for it to continue and have a planet humans can live on. We will have to be plant based, unless of course you are saying we just continue to ruin the planet?

goldfinchfan · 01/05/2022 23:56

According to their website Jude's make and sell glutenfree amd vegam icecream
They are still making ice cream with DAIRY products

So is this all a misunderstandin?

successstories · 02/05/2022 00:14

According to their website Jude's make and sell glutenfree amd vegam icecream

The only flavour flagged as Gluten Free is the Salted Caramel Mini (which Rumpole mentioned), not the Salted Caramel 460ml tub. Hence I would be inclined to think that they could have missed that flavour when they went about deleting the Gluten Free references from all their products.

Worth checking with the company but I won't risk it until I can clarify

There are some google search results from 2014/2017 with out of date info.

How about instead being annoyed that there are so many normal dairy icecreams that are not gf instead of getting annoyed that small amount are now Vegan.
Using words like 'brainwashed' is just so disrespectful.
At the end of the day companies are businesses and they go after sales.
You seem to be more interested to show your dislike of veganism and having a rant instead of finding out what options are suitable for you as otherwise you would have simply contacted Judes.
