Royally pissed off. And shouldn't labelling be better regulated to ensure only products made with real milk and cream (aka dairy) are called 'ice cream'? Oat paste should be marketed as something else.

Being the '1st carbon negative ice cream company' will not make any difference if the product is no good or cannot be eaten due to allergens🙄

Who's advising these companies?

It’s an ice cream that actually still does not contain gluten.

We need a 'pin' option on mn so this blatantly obvious fact is the first comment seen!

beautifulworldwhereareyou · 01/05/2022 20:30

I feel like at this point we should ignore the OP and just talk about nice vegan and gluten free food options…

Seems to be a thread a week lately bashing vegans for something or other

Maybe people are growling?

Do you really expect to withdraw foods that the majority want or need to eat and for everyone to remain silent and comply?

I expect humans to be able to understand that we can’t carry on as we are. The planet is dying. I expect humans to be concerned enough for future generations to be willing to change their behaviours.

Stop having a tantrum, use your words, and contact the companies to express the need for GF foods. Stop attacking and blaming vegans. I expect adults to behave like adults. Discuss things sensibly, explain your needs/wants, be ready for compromise and understand the need for change.

Bread is the hardest

M&S's Tiger Bloomer is delicious (they do a loaf and rolls). I don't have it often as it's pricey, but worth it IMO

Warburtons' Tiger Bloomer is also very tasty

@LoveInSlowMotion the planet is dying. Why do you think so many people are willing to carry on that path? Do you think it's simply climate change denial?

Innocenta · 01/05/2022 20:41

Thanks so much for the recs, @beautifulworldwhereareyou Smile I'm going to try these out anyway as I really like to test 'free from' options and see what's out there! I will keep my eyes open for anything that's both vegan and properly gf.

Only 0.3% of the population is diagnosed coeliac. To be blunt, the vegan market is bigger.

Companies exist to make a profit 🤷

More than one person in a 100 is coeliac in the UK (the figure is higher in parts of Scandinavia). Many more are genuinely gluten intolerant. And these are people whose committment to gluten free will be lifelong, not always the case with Vegans/Vegetarians . It's estimated (by the charity Coeliac UK) that of the 23% of the population with anaemia, upto half have undiagnosed CD as the root cause. That seems like a pretty decent chunk of the market.

understand the need for change

The solution to whatever the problem could be is not to remove food options or to starve currently living humans though.

This hyperbole is verging on the ludicrous. As has already been explained to you, nutrition and dietetics associations have researched veganism and concluded that plant based eating is a healthy and nutritive diet for all ages. Nobody is going to starve.

(Animal agriculture destroying the planet, on the other hand... Confused)

NewYorkCityDreamer · 01/05/2022 20:57

This thread is really unkind!
Vegans deserve to eat a variety and actually a lot of vegan food is nicer than non-vegan food.
One brand changed its DAIRY ice cream. This is not a vegan issue

@LoveInSlowMotion the planet is dying. Why do you think so many people are willing to carry on that path? Do you think it's simply climate change denial?

In part, yes. I campaign for animal rights and talk to lots of people. There’s definitely an element of people being able to go about their daily lives without too much bother from climate change so it’s not a problem to them. Not necessarily complete denial, but they think they’ll address it later. And to be fair to people, many are dealing with more pressing matters like living cost increases and getting through the here and now.

I’ve spoken to a lot of people that have realised ‘it’s getting serious’ due to the governments upcoming ban on petrol and diesel cars. Most people drive, it’s starting to affect daily life.

The things I hear most though is that it’s not convenient enough yet to be plant based all the time, it’s too hard. There’s not enough options. It’s too expensive. And that it’s just habit, it’s what they know. People generally fight change. And many people are comfortable being in the majority.

Are you actually starving?

PoseyFlump · 01/05/2022 21:11

Yes @LoveInSlowMotion I think most still think we can deal with it later whereas I feel like it's probably already too late. The eating part of vegan I think is the easy bit!

I (and most people) would indeed starve in your totalitarian plant based utopia

@successstories The irony is that most vegans would support fighting for good gf options. You're the one making this negative and hateful. I would like to see many more plant based choices that are truly safe for coeliacs - I think it is really important and I'm happy to back it in any way I can. You're treating us as the enemy when we are not the enemy. This all comes from you.

I hope it’s not too late, but I fear you may be right. I think we should all be willing to try though and I will always want to help animals. I think eating vegan is easy too, but even if I didn’t, it would be nothing for me to do it in comparison to the cruelty eating animal products causes. Just wish everyone felt the same.

fatfrenchprick · 01/05/2022 21:19

I feel the same about costas marshmallows which are now vegan and I cannot have due to allergies
