Royally pissed off. And shouldn't labelling be better regulated to ensure only products made with real milk and cream (aka dairy) are called 'ice cream'? Oat paste should be marketed as something else.

Being the '1st carbon negative ice cream company' will not make any difference if the product is no good or cannot be eaten due to allergens🙄

Who's advising these companies?

IF there are people who can not eat a plant based diet, this will be a small percentage, then there would be an argument for farming a small number of animals in a much, much more humane way than we do at the moment. Not intensively and given better lives

And who would dictate who could get access to this precious resource? There's so much wrong with this that I can't even start to articulate a response

Eating animals will not be the default one day in the not too distant future. When the norm is plant based, most people will want to be with the majority. No doubt we will see many people’s gastric issues not be so bad after all. My FIL claims vegan food makes him ill, yet has ate vegan burgers/vegan sausage rolls without realising and amazingly not been ill. 🙄 I find a lot of these people are just anti vegan. IF there are actually people who can’t eat plant based, they won’t be left to starve.

Lab grown meat is the future for the small % who genuinely can't eat PB/WFPB

So lab grown 'meat' will be globally administered and distributed to those who can prove they cannot eat PB? By whom? Who will determine what proof will be required? A tad dictatorial, not for me, thanks.

So you'd rather eat plant based than have lab grown meat? Seems a bit contradictory to me!

The forced plant based utopia seems more and more unpalatable the more you try to explain it.

Don't worry @successstories there won't be a future to worry about if we don't do something soon anyway.

Innocenta · 01/05/2022 19:33

@LoveInSlowMotion You've put it better than I could! And the fact that OP is just as hostile and unreasonable to you as to other vegans proves that she always just intended this as an anti vegan thread.

I’m starting to think you are right. The thing is, I’ve campaigned for animal rights for years. I’ve seen people get angry on both sides, nothing good comes of it. Vegans need to stick to their valid arguments and not respond with the hate that we are so often shown. Keep the big picture in mind. Plant based is coming whether people like it or not anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I will happily campaign for gluten free options too. I’m not the enemy.

So would you be happy to eat dogs? Horses? Beetles?

successstories · 01/05/2022 19:52

So you'd rather eat plant based than have lab grown meat?

I want natural meat and gluten free dairy ice cream when out and about. I used to be able to access the latter until a company most likely started to listen to vegan and climate change activists and withdrew this option from me.

OP posts:
Innocenta · 01/05/2022 19:53

@LoveInSlowMotion I totally agree about being pro gluten free options too! It's a cruel irony that people behave as if we are against this when most of us are extremely pro the accommodation of other restrictions. I was put on a (medically mandated) gluten free diet for a long period as a child, and an early thirties now, so I know how awfully limited gluten free used to be. I'm not at all in favour of making it more limited as some kind of gotcha! I want everyone to have good options.

In a choice between lab grown meat or eating plant based, which would you choose?

Why are you imposing a choice on me? I want to eat natural animal based products.

You could turn your argument @successstories on it's head. For years us vegans who don't have a problem with gluten have had to put up with 'free from' food that ticks all the boxes, GF, nut free, dairy free, taste free....

Preach!

PoseyFlump · 01/05/2022 19:59

@Carpy88999 read the entire thread rather than cherry picking out of context.

Innocenta · 01/05/2022 20:00

@successstories ...you do realise this is hypothetical, right? As in, I have zero power to make you do anything; you could go onto the carnivore diet if you want. It's merely a thought experiment.

beautifulworldwhereareyou · 01/05/2022 20:00

Carpy88999 · 01/05/2022 19:57

Preach!

And arguably gluten free stuff tastes WAY worse than dairy free!

Innocenta · 01/05/2022 20:01

Also, plants are natural Grin

Comefromaway · 01/05/2022 20:04

Ds suffered an allergic reaction after eating a vegan vanilla ice cream at the theatre recently. (It was the only option). He’s never been allergic to anything before. We think it might have been the chicory extract.

PoseyFlump · 01/05/2022 20:04

Btw @Carpy88999 you've just won vegan bingo full house.

I've eaten dog meat and horsemeat, never tried beetles but am willing to try anything once.

If so, keep an eye out for inulin in the future as it's a related ingredient. I'm allergic to both and it's somewhat rare.

Exactly. I agree completely. I shall contact Judes ice cream and express my disappointment at lack of GF options.

Some people want to cause division and you have to question why they would want to do that. This may be just an individual posting about ice cream, but there’s definitely people with an anti vegan agenda and they are getting more and more desperate to get a narrative out there that veganism is bad.

successstories · 01/05/2022 20:05

It's not hypothetical. The ice cream has been withdrawn. I can no longer have it
