Just when you think this government can't get any worse - now they are going to send asylum seekers to Rwanda

I didn't vote for this shower. The problem with people arriving (if they make it) in small boats needs addressing but AIBU that sending them on a one way trip to Rwanda isn't the answer?

But 'Boris' said something good about women, once, despite treating wonen like shit all his life, so Mumsnet will be voting Tory no matter what over atrocities they commit..

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 14/04/2022 08:29

I have no idea what the government are thinking, I completely agree with you.

luxxlisbon · 14/04/2022 08:30

This is perhaps one of the most mental things to come out of this government, and that is saying a lot.

I have no idea why they thought this is would go down well??

cansu · 14/04/2022 08:31

So vulnerable people will be sent to a place with a terrible record of human rights abuses. Yes that sounds a really good idea. Ffs this is awful. You could not make it up.

Tlollj · 14/04/2022 08:33

This makes no sense. The sheer logistics of it is mind boggling. That’s before we get to the morality of it.
They must be paying Rwanda to set up and employ people to operate it. Baffling.

lemongreentea · 14/04/2022 08:35

Tory votes will be delighted.

The UK is a cesspit of racist arseholes.

AndAsIfByMagic · 14/04/2022 08:35

Apparently it will only be young male economic migrants. The intention is to deter, apparently.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 14/04/2022 08:36

Couldn't they just send them to North Korea and have done with it? It's like they went hunting for the worst place on earth but could only come up with this.

Donkeyinamanger · 14/04/2022 08:39

I'd imagine he thinks it will please all the people who voted for Brexit because it would keep all those nasty foreigners out.

Dogmum40 · 14/04/2022 08:39

As long as it’s safe for the vulnerable I can’t see an issue, if they are genuine they will be offered the right to stay, if they are coming to the uk with bad intentions then they get refused entry!

Surely this is a better alternative to people coming in illegally on boats who have paid vast sums to traffickers! If they genuinely need help this could be a better solution all round as if they are genuine they should find the legal route of entering

mrshoho · 14/04/2022 08:42

In what way could this ever be seen as an acceptable way to deal with the issue of people trafficking? It's inhumane and will lead to so much more problems. I despair that this is the solution our government is taking.

Porcupineintherough · 14/04/2022 08:42

Sounds fine. Like to see them getting through on appeal from there.

Britain. Treating people like shitsince the year dot.

SleeplessInEngland · 14/04/2022 08:42

Tenner says the tories will get so desperate they'll try introducting the death penalty before the next election. Patel did have a consultation on it.

120 million deal with Rwanda but that's not including all the costs here!
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 14/04/2022 08:46

120 million from the magic money tree

SleeplessInEngland · 14/04/2022 08:47

They'll fuck it up somehow anyway. Tory cruelty is only outweighed by tory incompetence.

Sooverthemill · 14/04/2022 08:47

I'm utterly appalled by this news story and hope that it's just another stupid idea they don't follow through. Unbelievably inhumane and just wrong. This government continues to get lower and lower

horseyhorsey17 · 14/04/2022 08:49

@GhostofMaudFlanders

True. This depresses me.

You can't be right wing and a feminist, the two ideologies are antithetical.

megletthesecond · 14/04/2022 08:49

It's utterly mental. How much are we paying Rawanda to do this? What dodgy deals have been done I wonder....

horseyhorsey17 · 14/04/2022 08:50

It's a dead cat designed to distract their (horrible) voter base from Partygate.

I doubt it'll happen, it's almost certainly not legal, and apart from the inhumanity of the whole thing, sending refugees to Rwanda will cost the taxpayer more, not less. Another dumb, nasty idea from the dumb, nasty party.

ThreeFeetTall · 14/04/2022 08:54

But why would the Ukrainians be sent to Rwanda?

Mybestyear · 14/04/2022 09:03

@daimbarsatemydogsbone

120 million from the magic money tree
The same Rwanda that the govt gives £64 million in aid which the Rwandan president in his wisdom gave £30 million of to arsenal fc I’d sponsorship. Maybe Chelsea / Man U / Liverpool will have a new sponsor soon! Bloody madness.
Mybestyear · 14/04/2022 09:03
  • in sponsorship (not I’d sponsorship)
Monitaurus · 14/04/2022 09:06

Disgusting idea only to distract from the incompetent and evil government. If the same money was spent on proper integration schemes for people who actually get to the UK it would be worth every penny. The only thing I can agree with is Johnson’s statement on women. I hope that the LP will take note so that women will vote again. Currently many of us cannot vote for any party.
