Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

624 replies

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

Treat your cleaner as you would treat your friends. Stop being so stingy. Your cleaner is not an inferior being.
Absolutely do not treat your cleaner as a friend, be courteous and respectful as you would to anyone providing a service but boundaries are completely appropriate
Heronwatcher · 21/03/2022 08:20

Fucking hell I’ve read everything now. Do you let her use the toilet? I suspect you won’t have this problem as if you’re like this in other respects she won’t be working for you for long. For what it’s worth I make my cleaner a nespresso and offer her a biscuit.

@Onemorebaby

My mum use to make our weekly cleaner a sandwich... and it was with the same ham and salad as everyone else. She use to get nice rolls in especially. It sounds excessively generous now, but then if it was me and I could afford a cleaner I think I would buy the coffees in for her as a treat as I would like my employees to feel valued especially as minimum wage doesn't go very far. But then surely this post is a wind up? It's not how people really each other is it?
One of my clients insists on making me a Nespresso (2 hour clean) and I get the fancy biscuits. I mentioned about grabbing my lunch on the way to my next client and she said "I'll make you a sandwich!" I politely declined, but was so touched by the gesture.. She treats me like a social guest rather than an employee.

Not all clients are as nice, unfortunately. Some really do think you're a piece of crap they've stood in. I don't tend to stick around long once I see that attitude, I've a waiting list as long as my arm and I don't need shit clients who assume I'm thick and beneath them, all the while I'm scrubbing their filth!

If the cheeky woman would stop stealing drinks she wouldn't need to use the toilet. She did this to herself.

Those Nespresso pods are just naff anyway. Hardly a massive issue. Really, get a grip OP. There are people in Ukraine struggling to running water and food, and you're being so stingy!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/03/2022 08:23

There's access missing from my previous post's last sentence.

Alrightqueenie · 21/03/2022 08:24

No sign of the op?!!

itsgettingweird · 21/03/2022 08:25

@Alrightqueenie

No sign of the op?!!
She probably wandering around the house finding Enid's hiding spaces for the coffee pods.

She wouldn't want the daily hired help to feel valued now Hmm

implantreplace · 21/03/2022 08:25

I make my cleaner nespresso coffee
Buy nice biscuits just for her that she once mentioned we’re her favourite
Christmas and birthday present
Pay her if I ever have to cancel

What I get in return?
A wonderful cleaner
Absolutely superb in her cleaning
Someone who bent over backwards for me when I was recovering from an operation
Offered to drive my children to school when my car was playing up

MissTrip82 · 21/03/2022 08:28

@Gilead

DS wfh. He stops when the cleaner arrives to make her a nespresso coffee. She has one when she’s finished too, and they sit and chat. He values her and treats her as an equal.
What a bizarre thing to write. Of course he treats her as his equal. Because she is.

He is doing nothing noteworthy.

QuizzlyBear · 21/03/2022 08:29

Sorry OP, I got derailed by the whole 'daily cleaner' part. How filthy is your house that someone needs to thoroughly clean it every DAY?! Shock

butterpuffed · 21/03/2022 08:30

If there's a thread I'm interested in and there's quite a few pages of posts, I tend to look at the 'See All' on the original post. If there's only 1 and the OP hasn't responded to replies at all , then I come out of the thread, because what's the point ? Confused

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 21/03/2022 08:30

What does she do every single day!

misses point

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 21/03/2022 08:30

Just popped back to catch up - why so many deleted posts?!

You have applied your logic here...
FairyCakeWings · 21/03/2022 08:30

I think you have a point OP. If you didn’t tell the cleaner to help herself to your coffee pods then she’s being rude to just take them, especially more than one.

My boss doesn’t want to give my endless free Nespressos either Sad

IKnowYouDontTurnTheLightOn · 21/03/2022 08:30

A daily cleaner??? I can’t get past the idea of a daily cleaner! What could you do from one day to the next to make the house dirty enough to clean again!

Every day’s a school day! Grin

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 21/03/2022 08:32

Genuine LOL! And half a sugar too.

VaizyCrazyDaizy · 21/03/2022 08:32

I get it I don’t raid my houses where I babysit! I actually take a flask as my own taste coffee and milk and I see it as I am there to do a job not waste time making and drinking coffee!

Whatdramain2022 · 21/03/2022 08:32

Swap your Nespresso capsules for the Aldi ones. The coffee's crap, so you'll feel much better about it.

Cleans the Nespresso machine.
And waits for death.

Catclean · 21/03/2022 08:34

Well played Op! One post and never return. I think affording a daily cleaner but rationing yourselves on Nespresso capsules pushed it a it to be honest.

anewlife22 · 21/03/2022 08:37

@SarahBellam

I can’t believe she uses the Nespresso and not the Jura Bean to Cup Espresso machine. What a peasant.
Hahahhahahha THIS
BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 21/03/2022 08:37

You need one of these OP www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1151088636/rare-antique-solid-pollarded-oak-tea?click_key=24508a84f8aa49a1aa24953da5ff58cc5ba48287%3A1151088636&click_sum=d05ea3ff&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=tea+caddy+key&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&frs=1&sts=1

I don’t have a cleaner but if I did they would be given the choice of Nespresso (various strengths including decaf), tea (including decaf), or instant (no instant decaf - sorry).

SockFluffInTheBath · 21/03/2022 08:38

I don’t have a cleaner but I should think a coffee isn’t too much to ask. If the pods are a treat in your house (and that’s why you’re precious about them) then maybe say to her that they're for special occasions and you’d rather she didn’t use them. But really, if she’s having a drink while she’s at your house and not pocketing them for later then I’d let it go.
