Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

Buy more coffee. You have a DAILY cleaner and begrudge them coffee?
You could speak to her I suppose, but how much is it realistically costing you a day??? How much do you value your cleaner?

GimmeSleep · 21/03/2022 07:53

YABU for having a Nespresso

My mum use to make our weekly cleaner a sandwich... and it was with the same ham and salad as everyone else. She use to get nice rolls in especially. It sounds excessively generous now, but then if it was me and I could afford a cleaner I think I would buy the coffees in for her as a treat as I would like my employees to feel valued especially as minimum wage doesn't go very far. But then surely this post is a wind up? It's not how people really each other is it?

DuckyNoMates · 21/03/2022 08:03

You can't be sure it's the cleaner? Maybe your husband is having an affair when you're out.

Clarefromwork · 21/03/2022 08:05

This puts my worrying about rising living costs into perspective. Hmm

PartyPlan · 21/03/2022 08:06

This reminds me of a thread where the OP was moaning that her sister used her “good” shower gel. Turns out it was a squirt of Fenjal which you can buy for about three quid in Boots.

angieloumc · 21/03/2022 08:07

You have a daily cleaner and begrudge her something that may cost you a pound a day? Servant, know your place eh!

WouldYouIo · 21/03/2022 08:07

@thingymaboob

If you can afford / are the type of people who have a daily cleaner you can definitely afford nespresso
This isn’t necessarily true !

I know someone who has a daily cleaner due to disability and has to cut back in other areas - how do you know this isn’t the OP situation or something similar ?

OP- put the nespresso capsules away Amd just provide the drinks you want to. You’re employing a cleaner and you don’t have to run an upmarket cafe service for them the basics are fine tea, instant coffee. Don’t worry

scandihouse · 21/03/2022 08:09

If you see nespresso coffees as I treat I recommend the aldi dupes - they taste almost as good!

madamovaries · 21/03/2022 08:10

If you can afford a regular cleaner, surely you can afford to let her have a coffee?!

AnneKisee · 21/03/2022 08:11

How many cups does she have?? How long does she clean for?
Do you think she’s stealing the pods?

You don’t have to provide cleaner drinks. Mine doesn’t get any. Because there’s none in the house.

People are piling on because you’re rich enough to have a daily cleaner but that’s an irrelevant fact. YANBu

@WaterBottleLabel

A jar of Nescafé would work out to around 33p a cup just for coffee, no milk or sugar. A nespresso Starbucks capsule would be around 33p, again just for the coffee. So I don’t see the difference really and even if you buy different nespresso/coffee how much can the price difference really be that you’d begrudge her it? The most expensive ones I’ve ever bought were 44p a capsule, I couldn’t bring myself to begrudge someone I trusted in my home 11p.
That doesn't sound right for instant coffee?!
girlmom21 · 21/03/2022 08:13

Please say she leaves the dirty mug in the sink

AnneKisee · 21/03/2022 08:13

Also unless she’s there for 5 hours 2 coffees is excessive. Even in an office. How many coffees does she have at houses with no machine then?

JuliaSways · 21/03/2022 08:15

@Oldtiredfedup

A DAILY cleaner too???

I work as a cleaner - I’m probably going full time soon, I’m too exhausted to clean my own home. Ivd been considering getting a cleaner…ONCE A MONTH (and we can only afford that because my partner’s wage is at least above the National average).

Get a grip OP - you’re coming across as very mean and stingy

Totally off topic, but I'm relieved to see this. I'm also increasing my hours soon and thought I was being stupid to think of hiring a cleaner 😂 Cleaning is hard, I've no energy come the end of the week to then see to my own house!
AnneKisee · 21/03/2022 08:15

@WouldYouIo exactly I don’t see why the OP’s being mean for not wanting her stuff being a free for all.

People are just shitting on her because she has one daily.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/03/2022 08:16

Treat your cleaner as you would treat your friends. Stop being so stingy. Your cleaner is not an inferior being.

Hollywolly1 · 21/03/2022 08:16

Ah lads I think I've cracked it,the cleaner must be posh that's why she reaching for the better ☕ so just get a scummier cleaner and she won't know what those capsule things are and her services will be cheaper to.

AnneKisee · 21/03/2022 08:17

But friends aren’t there every day are they? The cleaner’s drinking more coffee than the OP herself.

@AnneKisee

This. A person can go without water for 3 days. She should be allowed half a nespresso pod twice a week; fewer on short weeks with bank holidays.
