Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

@DuckyNoMates

Say it was biscuits. And you had a tub of hobnobs on the side but a stash of ultralovely chocolate covered fancy ones in the cupboard that you only had 1 a week of. It wouldn't be ok for the cleaner to go through the cupboard to find the fancy ones.
This!!
Crankley · 21/03/2022 18:30

My cleaner has a whisky with her ciggie break. I even pour it!

You can't plead poverty if she comes to you every day so what is it? Are you really mean and stingy or do you have a superiority complex? Or maybe both?

MuggleMadness · 21/03/2022 18:31

@Oldtiredfedup

A DAILY cleaner too???

I work as a cleaner - I’m probably going full time soon, I’m too exhausted to clean my own home. Ivd been considering getting a cleaner…ONCE A MONTH (and we can only afford that because my partner’s wage is at least above the National average).

Get a grip OP - you’re coming across as very mean and stingy

@Oldtiredfedup

Wouldn't you be better to book yourself a slot? Clean your house in a booking slot - at least then you'll know you're getting a good clean!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/03/2022 18:34

I've just worked it out and a coffee made with better quality instant is 3.5p a cup

That's a relief - I thought for a moment that I'd been drinking shit coffee in an attempt to save money for the sake of 11p a cup.

Kirstos1 · 21/03/2022 18:45

This thread has made me laugh out loud which I really needed so thank you all!

Op April Fools day is next week. Next week.

You poor soul. It’s terrible when the help just don’t know their place. Biscuit

contrelamontre · 21/03/2022 19:06

FFS. I have been "the help" in households where the employers are pissed off that "the help just don't know their place." The OP is not that. 99% of people being rude and vitriolic have never been "the help".

Oldtiredfedup · 21/03/2022 19:06

No, not really Because at my own home there are generally people and phone calls and animals etc which means I cannot focus in the same way

I have, I am - and I’d not be working for someone with that kind of attitude.
Hollywolly1 · 21/03/2022 19:08

Nespresso average around .50p per cup so £7 @week and the op probably gets it delivered to her home as well unless she's in a city that sell it locally and with all the different flavours and strenghts she will order a selection of what she likes and maybe the washer woman Hmmcoming and drinking them.I still think its a case for the car boot

Blossomtoes · 21/03/2022 19:11

Washer woman?! 😱

Gladioli23 · 21/03/2022 19:34

The suggestion of buying a bulk load of off brand ones actually seems like a good compromise to me: you can get it down to about 11p a cup that way, which seems like an acceptable cost per week especially given instant is maybe 3p a cup (maybe 40p different, even if she has more than 2 it would still only be maybe a pound). That way she gets a nice coffee, you can have a (perhaps less nice than a proper Nespresso but still nice) one whenever you want, and you can keep a tube of the full branded capsules in as a treat?

by Amazon Nespresso Compatible Lungo Capsules, 100 capsules (2 x 50) amazon.co.uk/dp/B08RFTMZ51/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_1D1CRSWKH6M7BJWNBCSW]]

These are 11p I think.

Gladioli23 · 21/03/2022 19:36

Also though, the poster who asked if the OP gives worse mugs to tradespeople - I don't if they're working inside but I absolutely do whenever anyone comes to do any work outside the house - the mugs usually get stood on the ground or balanced on things or carried up ladders! I wouldn't take myself a tea in a posh cup if I was in the midst of DIY so why on earth would I take a tradesperson my best china?

Nanny0gg · 21/03/2022 19:37

@eunace

I bet you keep a few rubbish/chipped mugs at the back of the cupboard for the tradesmen, don't you, OP?
To be fair, I do keep a couple of very nice but sturdy earthenware mugs for trades - especially if they're going to take them outside. But my DH uses them too if he wants one outside when he's working out there.

Just out of interest those of you who say they would give their cleaner 'posh' coffee, would you also give your cleaner and builders cans of drink like coke? Or freshly squeezed juice? Or mineral water? If you had a soda stream would you be okay with them using it to make a nice refreshing drink?
Again I don't have a cleaner, but whilst I'd always offer tea or coffee I don't think I'd offer other drinks, but now I think about it I'm not sure why?

contrelamontre · 21/03/2022 19:42

@Oldtiredfedup really? OP has tea and instant coffee for daily consumption and a nespresso coffee as a treat. And you think she's got a bad attitude for not being happy about the fact her cleaner is having a couple of nespressos a day? Rather than just saying something she posts on MN to check with others if she's being U... I think you are unusual expecting to get special guest treatment in your daily place of work rather than fitting in with what the rest of the household does.

stuntbubbles · 21/03/2022 19:43

“Washer woman” has tipped me over the edge into hysteria, best thread of the day – despite the “kids eating in supermarkets” competition

Er, yes? I always buy my builders choc ices and keep people well stocked in drinks and snacks, with a help-yourself policy on the kettle and soda stream. If we’re making coffee and there’s someone in, we’ll use the big pot. They’re working out of my house and don’t have a regular workplace, plus they’re doing work I don’t want to do; I don’t want them thirsty or hangry or whatever. I can’t imagine sitting with my fizzy water while the serfs toil on my roof drinking only tap.

Of course. Why on earth wouldn’t I? Anyone working in our house would have to have “posh” coffee because that’s all there is. We don’t like instant so we don’t buy it.
BanjoKnockers · 21/03/2022 19:50

"Washerwoman" Grin

For gods' sake do not begrudge the washerwoman a nice cup of coffee. Are you by any chance connected to the poster who objected to her washerwoman using the bog? Hmm

foxlover47 · 21/03/2022 19:51

I must be bad then I even offer the asda delivery driver a coffee or a can of Diet Coke or Dr Pepper ... I'm not rich it's just nice to be nice when someone is working hard

foxlover47 · 21/03/2022 19:52

Washer woman 🙈🤣🤣

It’s coffee.

Not caviar.
