Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

@banjoknockers
I am not connected to anyone on here that I know of but I will make an admission of my very own, when someone comes to my house and I offer them coffee or tea I will absolutely NOT give them a cup I drink from myself as I will reach yo the top shelf for one my family don't use and I surely am not alone in this carry on]🤣

MrsWombat · 21/03/2022 19:59

I would just buy the cheaper Lidl (or equivalent) compatible pods to put in the jar and hide your own branded ones somewhere better. Unless you've actually said to her that the instant is for every day her use then I can understand why she's using the coffee machine that's on the counter in every one's eye line.

extractorfactor · 21/03/2022 20:01

Bloss and stunt. I'm just interested, and possibly being slight disingenuous, because whilst I can offer lots of different teas and coffees, apart from water we don't have any other drinks in our house, but it got me thinking what drinks people offer. And if I did have other drinks would I offer them? I'm not sure I would just because I wouldn't think to. As I've said earlier when I worked as a cleaner years ago, I might be offered a tea (I didn't like tea in my yoof so wasn't an issue) and I'd never think badly of my employer for not offering an alternative.
The only time we had builders in they brought their own drinks think they saw a mouse run across the kitchen surface and decided it was safer to bring their ownWink

Hope you never drink anything outside your house because they let all sorts of riffraff into cafes now and they give all the customers the same cups.

We don't keep drinks for personal consumption. There'll only be some if received as presents, or 'perishables' like juice bought for visitors (both rare).

I've never had workmen in for extended periods of time, I'd probably ask what they wanted and get some. Provided they take the balance home :D as nobody will drink it here!

@Gladioli23

Also though, the poster who asked if the OP gives worse mugs to tradespeople - I don't if they're working inside but I absolutely do whenever anyone comes to do any work outside the house - the mugs usually get stood on the ground or balanced on things or carried up ladders! I wouldn't take myself a tea in a posh cup if I was in the midst of DIY so why on earth would I take a tradesperson my best china?
This is kind of true. If it's work that might result in a smashed or chipped mug I'll just give them the ones I don't like as much/ not as expensive in case they're broken. I still use those mugs but I wouldn't give them my favourites
Mammyloveswine · 21/03/2022 20:21

Wow.... you have a DAILY cleaner yet begrudge her a bloody decent coffee!!

Why not deduct the price of the coffee pods from her wages? She meeds to know her place... Hmm

MurmuratingStarling · 21/03/2022 20:22

@Crankley

My cleaner has a whisky with her ciggie break. I even pour it!

You can't plead poverty if she comes to you every day so what is it? Are you really mean and stingy or do you have a superiority complex? Or maybe both?

A whiskey with her ciggie break? Really? ...... Wink
MurmuratingStarling · 21/03/2022 20:22

@Hollywolly1

Nespresso average around .50p per cup so £7 *@week* and the op probably gets it delivered to her home as well unless she's in a city that sell it locally and with all the different flavours and strenghts she will order a selection of what she likes and maybe the washer woman Hmmcoming and drinking them.I still think its a case for the car boot
'Washer woman' Grin

What's wrong with that folks? Grin

contrelamontre · 21/03/2022 20:22

I must be bad then I even offer the asda delivery driver a coffee or a can of Diet Coke or Dr Pepper ... I'm not rich it's just nice to be nice when someone is working hard

Are you getting a couple of asda deliveries a day? No.

People don't have daily "help" which is why they can't get their head around daily "help" fitting in with what the employing household do - sometimes that will be max one nespresso a day, tap water rather than mineral which is for guests and not daily consumption... sometimes it will be daily deliveroo of your choice for lunch.

You fit in with the household when you work somewhere on a daily basis. It's why someone posting on here moaning about the cleaner using their loo is seriously bloody U. Does the household use the loo whenever they need to? Of course they do.

Calandor · 21/03/2022 20:27

These issues could be solved with a drip coffee machine and beans 😂

Hollywolly1 · 21/03/2022 20:38

@Blossomtoes
Quite right you are and washer women to im sure]🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hollywolly1 · 21/03/2022 20:40

Brilliant

Really. I also give my gardener a lager.

I've just realised this makes me sound like a pub Grin

Allelbowsandtoes · 21/03/2022 20:54

@Seema1234

Get s grip. It's a coffee.

As for the person with the magnamanous DS, give yourself a medal. I'm sure the cleaner is overcome at being treated as as equal by being made a coffee.

😅 I bet she goes home and complains to her partner about having to sit and make conversation with the posters son over coffee to make him feel less upper middle class, when she just wants to get on with her job.
stuntbubbles · 21/03/2022 21:19

@extractorfactor To be fair we basically only have Yorkshire tea, stovetop espresso or cafetière, 8,000 horrid herbal teas that all taste like pond, and a SodaStream. So easy for me to offer any of those without having to give up a pricey can of Coke. I wouldn’t go and buy Nescafé specially because then I’ll be stuck with a jar I don’t want and will never drink. Also have vague “isn’t Nestlé bad? Aren’t we boycotting it?” aversions but can’t remember why Grin

I also WFH and like a well-stocked cupboard for me, and DD loves to bake on a weekend so we’re always awash with cake, so offering trades endless brownies and cake is less “I am so bountiful” and more “for the love of god, please take some for all your friends too”. Also I’ve got a lovely plumber who last time she did something for us, gave us a big discount because I made her a cheese sandwich and a mug of tea and she hadn’t eaten all day!

Aaah. So you're new Money.

Hankunamatata · 21/03/2022 22:16

How many does she have a day? If you look in supermarket usually they have pods on offer like Starbucks or costa so I bulk buy. Though dh brought me a nespresso subscription as a pressie so actually stacking up pods now.

Myusernameisunique · 21/03/2022 22:19

Omg the people I work for on a daily basis in a similar capacity actually buy in the tea and coffee I like to drink. They also offer me food, treats etc if they've got something in for themselves. You sound absolutely awful. Your poor cleaner. I love that in so valued by then and would honestly do anything for them to help out. Btw I also have a nespresso machine at home and wouldn't dream of grudging anyone a coffee from it!

contrelamontre · 21/03/2022 22:27

@Myusernameisunique Sounds a great deal for your employers - they simply buy the tea/coffee you want and you are so grateful you would honestly do anything for them to help out.
