Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

@Belladonna12

It would have been helpful if you had said in the first place your reason for having a daily cleaner

I'm still not clear on why why the fact her the DH has a disability means that a daily cleaner is required. OP is not disabled herself, so you would think could do some cleaning.

It's possible that he is incapacitated in a way that means he can't help, but in that case I would not have expected him to be making much mess either!!
CounsellorTroi · 21/03/2022 14:54

I drink both instant and proper coffee. Proper coffee if we’ve had a nice dinner with wine, instant during the day (Azzera).

ImAvingOops · 21/03/2022 14:56

So much judging about the OP having a daily cleaner. Why should she clean her house herself, if she doesn't want to or feels her time is better used elsewhere and can afford to pay someone else to do it? Someone else who actually makes their living doing this work? People outsource jobs they would prefer not to do all the time and there shouldn't be moral judgement attached to that.

stuntbubbles · 21/03/2022 14:57

@jytdtysrht

I think the question should have been:

How can I stop our daily carer from taking our treats which we struggle to afford.

The OP has only posted 3 times, very briefly, and not offered us enough info to conclude that the cleaner is a carer and that they struggle to afford the Nespresso.
LynetteScavo · 21/03/2022 14:59

It makes no difference why you have a cleaner.

She probably uses your nice hand soap with matching hand cream too mwahahaha

RantyAunty · 21/03/2022 14:59

Install a coin operated coffee vending machine.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 21/03/2022 15:18

Put your initials on your capsules. Or booby trap the cupboard you keep them in.

MindfulMarch · 21/03/2022 15:32

@roses2

Am I the only one wondering if the cleaner steals pods to take home? Several a day (3+?) doesn't make sense.
@roses2

Depends. If I make a Nespresso type coffee, I use two pods &. Tall or double water with a dash of cream, else it's about 3 mouthfuls of coffee. So, at home (Philips Senseo) or at work (Nespresso) I use 4 pads/pods in a morning (no coffee in the afternoon).

I'm not sure why you think 3+ 'Doesn't make sense'??

MuggleMadness · 21/03/2022 15:33

Slight correction. At home talk/double hot water & dash if cream. At work 2 pods & heated milk.

jessy100 · 21/03/2022 15:50

I think the cleaner is stealing the op's coffee pods and selling them down the local pub There"s a fortune to be made apparently!!

GimmeSleep · 21/03/2022 15:52

I want to know who buys Nescafe original? That stuff is like mud.

My mum who then declares proudly "it's Nescafe" when offering me a cuppa Envy (not envy)

BourbonVanilla · 21/03/2022 15:59

You can afford a daily cleaner, but can't afford coffee? 🤔

Hollywolly1 · 21/03/2022 16:00

I feel people's opinions have changed somewhat since discovering the op's husband has a disability, the op doesn't need or want sympathy im sure as she just asking a question about the cleaner taking coffee pods.

YellowLemonYellow · 21/03/2022 16:15

Do posters who are saying cleaner is not a CF go into other people's houses and just take things without being offered? I used to clean for my Grandma and I wouldn't have helped myself to her posh coffee. She was lovely and generous but I would still have waited to be offered.

Hollywolly1 · 21/03/2022 16:31

@BourbonVanilla
You are missing the whole point here, it doesn't matter if the op has golden eyeballs and gold dripping from her house it still doesn't give anyone the right to take her things,its not nice its fairly cheeky and I wonder what else she eyes up.Maybe she uses her moisturiser and soaps etc as well

Teachertotutor · 21/03/2022 16:37

My twin sister has very rich in-laws. We're talking multi-millionaires. I've known them for years. The first time my husband went roudn there, they offered him a coffee and made him a Nespresso. When he asked for one more, they said it would have to be instant as they only made one Nespresso per guest. It spoke volumes about them!

jytdtysrht · 21/03/2022 16:45

I think it does matter re the op circumstances.

If the op has 7 pods (that are a special treat and expensive for her) and the cleaner takes 1 a day then soon all the pods will be gone. But if the op has millions of pounds and 500 pods (that anyone visiting and living there has frequently) then the cleaner taking 1 a day is likely expected and fine.

She was offered coffee though. How would she know that only meant instant coffee?
louderthan · 21/03/2022 16:59

Yabu to have a Nespresso at all. The coffee tastes like shit and they're bad for the environment

“Take her things” 😂😂

It’s pence worth of coffee, not helping herself to the jewellery box

gigglewater · 21/03/2022 17:22

Just buy a bulk load of nespresso machine caps from Amazon, their brand £6.99 for 100, and if you want to have some fancy ones which you are precious about, hide them. I do something like that with my versus the kids biscuits.

Please don't tell me you do that weird aspirational/ crass thing of displaying the nespresso caps in a special stand on the counter, just so that all your guests know, that you know to buy the 'correct' coffee. If you do that you deserve to have the cleaner help herself to those when she's offered a coffee.

mumof2exhausted · 21/03/2022 17:51

Jesus - if you can afford for a cleaner to come EVERY DAY you can afford an extra sleeve of nespresso capsules!!!!

mumof2exhausted · 21/03/2022 17:51

Also I make nespresso coffees for everyone who comes to our house as I’m not a knob

saturdayhelicopter · 21/03/2022 17:59

YABU.

There are much nicer coffee brands to be precious about.

Also don't begrudge the person doing manual labour in your home a drink or two.

I can't believe this is a thing.
