Hope you don't mind whytcvv just posting here as your thread reached the limit for posts

Posting your original OP here:- Ignore my previous thread-start as it didn't include important title"

whytcvv
When will the rules change as I completely agree this is unfair and I expect that you will all largely agree with me.

For anyone that doesn't agree, please explain your reasoning to help me better understand.

This reminds me of the weightlifting story from last year.

People that are born female and people who are born male should not be competing in these events together. Our physical bodies are not comparable.

Have as many genders as you can think of, but there are only two possible sexes that you can be born as and that is what eligibility in these competitions should be based on.
@itsgettingweird

Have transactivists not yet targeted para sports?

I've cheered on all the competitors at the London Marathon for years now and watched the Olympics.

What if 10th guy in wheelchair decides to self ID as a woman ?
Meet Valentina….

In the end they didn’t go (looks like a fudge on technicalities from Italy in a bid to avoid dealing with it)

334bu · 21/03/2022 18:02

Obviously the guy is kneeling down the girl is miles behind and the coach is really short!Grin

I thought the Reke Twitter account was a fake too. It was new and only followed a few other accounts, all of them very right-wing.

I'm waiting to see how long it takes for this CNN post to be corrected

Text of screenshot: How an Ivy League swimmer became the face of the debate on transgender women in sports
By Eric Levenson, CNN

Updated 1556 GMT (2356 HKT) February 23, 2022

Boston (CNN) Lia Thomas stood tall and smiled wide atop the championship podium, her nearly 6-foot-4 frame pushing her head past the top of the Ivy League's green photo backdrop.

With one hand she held a placard reading "Ivy 2022 Champion," and with the other she stuck up two fingers in that classic sign of victory. Her hair nestled alongside the medal around her neck as a blue University of Pennsylvania jacket hung from her broad swimmer's shoulders.

I think its amazing that Lia has managed to surround themselves with such short men and women

Thats gotta take some doing!

Selkiesarereal · 21/03/2022 19:09

Hmm kind of like how some slebs used to be older than me are weirdly a lot younger now.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 21/03/2022 19:15

Here’s Lia with friend Hannah Liu.

Hannah is 5’5” and weighs 150lb, according to her bio.

Somehow, I don’t think Lia is only 3” taller and yet 17lb lighter.

@Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky

Poor Reka

There’s also been a massive rewriting of facts about LT over the last 48 hours. LT height on All the official swimming sites was recorded as variously 6ft 2 or 3. If you Google their height now every site that comes up says they are either 5ft 7 or 8 and weigh around 60kg which is around 9.5 stones. Stop and think about that. In 48 hours LT real height & weight have been essentially deleted from
The internet and replaced with false information so that it looks as if LT height & weight are more in line with biological female swimmers

“He who controls the present controls the past” in action

Wow Angry

@Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky thank you for sharing

Supersee · 21/03/2022 19:56

@Somanysocks

Even the transwoman interviewed on Jeremy Vine this morning said LT was 5'8". They said it with a straight face like it was fact.

It was such a shit segment. They had the opportunity to really 'go' there and it was glossed over. You had Owen Jones (who makes me want to hurt people) and his what about Caster Semenya instead of talking about LT's physical advantages, how trans people want to leave the country as they are so scared to even think about using public toilets, how the photo of LT was CLEARLY doctored, it wasn't a protest at all etc etc. Owen didn't even want to have a discussion at all without a trans person present.

Which rolled nicely to a transwomen of some sporting league, then transwomen Kimberley on the blower. Only one call was given to a women who called out then ridiculousness of it all and was promptly talked over by Owen.

I don't think I can watch Jeremy again.

The internet and replaced with false information so that it looks as if LT height & weight are more in line with biological female swimmers

This is common with many news worthy issues. Unpalatable facts are being memory holed before our eyes. I thought I was going mad so I'm relieved to see I'm not alone in seeing it.

Somanysocks · 21/03/2022 21:03

The batshittery and gaslighting is getting so bad now it's going to be an own goal at some point soon.

There was an interesting Facebook thread posted on mn a few days ago about why transwomen athletes seem to so often be pictured sitting alone and staring wistfully into the distance rather than standing next to other people. It was erm ….. interesting.
ZeldaFighter · 21/03/2022 22:04

This is such a difficult issue. I've always thought of myself as a feminist with progressive politics but a situation where a person goes from 554th to first isn't fair. So why are the only people saying that horrifically right-wing?

I was reading about Andraya Yearwood and Terry Miller and both people attracted my sympathy.

I am so confused.

TheKeatingFive · 21/03/2022 22:08

I am so confused.

What are you confused about?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 21/03/2022 22:09

I was reading about Andraya Yearwood and Terry Miller and both people attracted my sympathy.

More so than the young women who were displaced by them? Or the impact on other young women who might be deterred from training and competition with no point to it in the sense of winning competitions and scholarships etc.? Do you have some insight into why that is?

georgarina · 21/03/2022 22:15

I was reading about Andraya Yearwood and Terry Miller and both people attracted my sympathy.

Would you be sympathetic to an able-bodied athlete who identified as disabled and switched from mainstream sports to the Paralympics?

I honestly don't see how it's in any way confusing. Live how you want, but your rights don't supersede other people's rights.

334bu · 21/03/2022 22:21

I was reading about Andraya Yearwood and Terry Miller and both people attracted my sympathy.

No sympathy for their African American female colleague Alanna Smith?

Linguini · 21/03/2022 22:22

I had very strong emotions when watching Andraya Yearwood running with the girls, and sympathy was definitely not one of them...

Tanith · 21/03/2022 22:40

"I've always thought of myself as a feminist with progressive politics but a situation where a person goes from 554th to first isn't fair. So why are the only people saying that horrifically right-wing? "

That's not true. People from all political backgrounds, from all political parties, are saying it's unfair.

MsTSwift · 21/03/2022 22:44

Sharron Davies Sen Coe and j k Rowling “horrifically right wing@🙄

ZeldaFighter · 21/03/2022 22:59

Thank you for engaging with me.

I'm confused about how to be kind and inclusive to transgender people whilst also protecting women's rights.

I was sympathetic to Andraya and Terry because objection to a biological advantage had become mean and personal. It also wasn't clear from the media reports I read whether they were better runners because they were better runners or because they had been male. It wasn't clear when or how they had transitioned as that was private.

In saying horrifically right-wing, the majority of commentators have written in the Daily Mail. I usually read the Guardian.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 21/03/2022 23:03

I was sympathetic to Andraya and Terry because objection to a biological advantage had become mean and personal.

Their obvious male biological advantage was denying girls and women their scholarships and funding so it’s little wonder people were angry about it.
