I've never experienced this before but it dawned on me that it must happen quite a bit.

Someone local to me ran out of money when building her extension and has put up a Justgiving page to raise the money to finish it.

It's raised about £30 the last time I checked and not budging.

Anyone else experienced CF JG pages?

I have not come across any personally but I am always amazed by the sheer audacity and entitlement of some I have heard about. Always seem to be along the lines of 'entitled person did not purchase travel, home or life insurance, please contibute'. I get insurance is something we all hate paying for but there is a reason we do.

Comedycook · 12/03/2022 18:02

I find it shocking how entitled people are. A lady in my area died unexpectedly recently...a page was set up for donations with a aim of raising £30k. Now it's sad she died but it's never once occured to me when a relative has died to ask anyone for money...and I'm far from rich!

Degreeincodology · 12/03/2022 18:04

I would never ever give a cheeky fucker on a just giving page money. Buy travel insurance you fucking idiot.

GooglyEyeballs · 12/03/2022 18:05

I saw one where someone was asking for money to buy some sort of expensive cake decorating tool because it was their amazing hobby and dream to be able to decorate cakes properly. Not really what I thought just giving was created for. It didn't raise much money.

willstarttomorrow · 12/03/2022 18:05

And pets. This seems to be a big one right now- pet needs thousands of pound of treatment. I have an old stray moggy who is not insureable. I have had the conversation with family (and queen whiskers) that there is no fancy treatment and a pain free end. She is still here and ruling the roost 8 years later so I do not think she can moan about that!

TeeBee · 12/03/2022 18:08

Oh god, the pet ones drive me round the bend. I'm not paying for your bloody pet! Cheeky fuckers.

KimCheese · 12/03/2022 18:09

I feel bad about it, but the one for when someone's died - how do I know what they're spending it on? There's no accountability.

KimCheese · 12/03/2022 18:09

The 30k extension though - CF of the highest order!

KimCheese · 12/03/2022 18:11

30k extension!! - I've mixed the stories up.

Hintofreality · 12/03/2022 18:12

The ones that are literally set up within minutes of someone taking their last breath and the link accompanies the Facebook announcement of their death.

“Give them the send off they deserve” translates to “To cover the bar bill and keep us all cokes off our heads during the wake”.

charliebear78 · 12/03/2022 18:15

Hate them, and they seem to be popping up more and more.
My own Sister set one up once-She got a bit of money from it, none from me.

Fizbosshoes · 12/03/2022 18:16

I have (someone I know set one up for what I consider a cheeky reason) but although I think they're a bit grabby, no one is forced to donate, and often they only raise a small amount anyway which I think must be really embarrassing.

Calandor · 12/03/2022 18:17

Yep an old school friend raising money to take her girlfriend to Ireland as she'd never left the country before...

Winterfellismyhome · 12/03/2022 18:17

The travelling ones are the worst. "Help me travel the world!" Er no?

Cakecakeandcake · 12/03/2022 18:34

Someone I used to work with done one for his wife to get a gastric band. She got one in the end, lots of neighbours, work colleges put money in.

Beachbreak2411 · 12/03/2022 18:34

I follow a page on FB that gives me the rage.. they had a fundraiser to buy furniture for their huge house they were renovating at HUGE expense.. because they couldn’t afford to buy furniture in keeping with the age of the property. They plan to
run this place as a hotel and post constant pictures of their children enjoying all the amazing space.. whilst asking others for money.. I can’t afford to buy myself furniture let alone rich people!!

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 12/03/2022 18:38

Someone I vaguely knew set one up when her children were removed from her by SS, she needed a holiday due to the stress apparently Confused

Ginfilledcats · 12/03/2022 18:47

A girl from school did one to raise funds for her to attend RADA (musical theatre school in London I think) this was after she had done an English degree elsewhere. Some of her mates donated a tenner. I couldn't believe the cheek of it!!!

Springroses18 · 12/03/2022 18:47

Someone I know set up a just giving page to help pay a one off unexpected cost for their kid's private school fees. I can't believe the nerve of some people!

ThirstyMeeples · 12/03/2022 18:48

DH ex GF posted one a few years back to fund her to take a round the world trip Shock
Why on earth would I want to slog at work so I can pay for her to travel..... Don't think she ever took the trip.

XenoBitch · 12/03/2022 18:48

I saw one where a dad wanted to raise money to get his young son a gaming PC, as the lad had been going through a tough time.
Turns out the money raised would be buying the dad a new gaming PC, and he would be giving the old one to his kid.
