I've never experienced this before but it dawned on me that it must happen quite a bit.

Someone local to me ran out of money when building her extension and has put up a Justgiving page to raise the money to finish it.

It's raised about £30 the last time I checked and not budging.

Anyone else experienced CF JG pages?

@PinaColada123456 you've never heard of just giving? It's as big as (if not bigger than) go fund me! I agree with you about the animals though - I would (and have) donate to those causes.

A former colleague once had her DS set up a just giving/go fund me to buy women's clothes because he wanted to set himself up as a drag act. Quite why they thought anyone should donate to such a ridiculous thing is beyond me. The mother had a massive ego and sense of entitlement anyway so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

I hate them. A family member set one up as her child needed or was recommended a piece of equipment for £1500. A couple of people pointed out you can get one for £600, no, this is one the nurse told her about so that's what she wants.

The bit that got me was in the previous weeks she was all over Facebook getting botox, lip fillers, false nails and eye lashes (this is normal for her and not a saved up one off treat). Think she would have spent around £500. I found it in poor taste and we didn't contribute.

She ended up raising much more than her goal and I never saw any update on her getting the equipment for her child and gas never mentioned to me having or using this equipment.

I don't either. I'd have done the same, for the sake of the children.

I know someone who tried crowdfunding for his pet dogs op which was not fully covered by insurance. The guy bought a tesla the month before and lives in a huge house, he's not short of money by a long way.

I forgot the one my sister did (were NC) but she wanted to bike across Europe to raise awareness of an illness.
She talked about it for a few weeks at college, was a dutiful daughter who apparently took care of her poor ill mum.
Mum did have that illness but wasn't especially affected and no care ever happened.. one of her college tutors gave her the first £125 in sponsorship to get her going.

Which was spent on a cheap bike, and domino's. Her "training" for the big event of biking around Europe was her college bike trip of about a mile a day, except when it was raining- when she would be taken to college by car.

Stopped being mentioned a few weeks after that donation because no one was supporting her.

I shouldn't be surprised. Our parents spent our childhoods telling us to go to school to get sponsorships to do fun runs and walks and various fundraisers, but the money never made it to the charities. I remember talking to my mum about how sad I was that a teacher wanted proof of the donations going to the latest charity, but we didn't have any, why didn't we have any?
She was annoyed and said they got the registration fees, and were raking it in! We had to pay for petrol to get there didn't we!

After that we funnily did no more fundraising activities for charity!

My family are probably all over GFM/JG, bunch of chancers that they are.

It's the pet ones ....

My puppy that I irresponsibly brought from a puppy farm having done no research or health tests has an entirely predictable health problem. I can't afford treatment because I didn't bother insuring it. Please give me money.

Of course I feel sorry for the animals concerned but giving money just keeps fuelling the problem.

@Bluelillies

Thinking about it-the lady who owns our fast food store once set up a gofundme so her and hubby could go on a cycling trip somewhere aboard for charity-vague on which one (we have our own linked to the business) We had the links,Sponsor forms wafted under our noses and a lot of presure to cough up ‘it’s just £20!’ My job is a minimum wage job that can be brutal-she’s a fucking millionaire and her husband is even more rich Pay for your own trip!
I don’t contribute to glorified holidays where cyclists/runners/climbers/swimmers do what they could be doing anyway. As a cyclist, climber and swimmer, I cover my own costs. If I support a cause, thank you for raising awareness, I’ll consider how to support the charity.

Eeek. I have a JustGiving page on the go right now (I'm doing a non stop 62 mile walk to raise money for a charity called Widowed and Young, seeing as I'm both widowed and young-ish) and worry that people think I'm a cf for asking for donations for that!
Someone I knew started one as she wanted to buy a new car but didn't have the money to do so - not a penny did she raise! Smile
