Dirty undergarments

Where does everyone put their dirty underwear that need washing? I wouldn't put it in wash basket with the rest of my clothes. I ask because I let mine pile up (weekly) and then put in for a wash as they don't get washed with any other clothing. What I have been doing is putting them in a medium sized laundry mesh bag, that I leave in the bathroom, not in open apparent space. But if you look around well enough, you will be able to spot it!
My issue is having to move it when we have workers round (boiler is in the bathroom) or even guests. Our downstairs bathroom is quite far from the living room so our guests unfortunately decide to go to our family bathroom upstairs as it's much closer. Just annoys me that I have to move it any time someone comes over. We've had 3 workers in the last 3 week that required work in the bathroom.
It got me thinking where do people put their underwear that need washing.

@AuntTwacky

I wash my undies in the dishwasher with all my plates and cutlery! I really don't see the problem with washing them with tea towels
Oh, classic!!!! I’m going to do this with my trainers later! Grin

Towels at 90 with Calgon tablet
Knickers and bed-linen at Cotton 40 (longish)
Everything else,, including my bras but except the rare "delicate" items go in "Mixed load" at 30.
The only rule - socks do NOT get tumble dried, so they don't shrink.
Has worked for us for as long as i can remember.

Doratheexploret · 06/03/2022 00:26

Jesus how dirty are your “undergarments “ that they can’t go in the laundry basket with the rest if the washing?

I thought I’d read it all on mumsnet!

HELLITHURT · 06/03/2022 06:36

@Suzi888

In the washing basket, but I do wash them separately.
Why?
HELLITHURT · 06/03/2022 06:39

@pollyroo

Op I wash all my knicks together on a 60 wash weekly as most of my other washing gets done on a 30 also .... wouldn't feel clean washing underwear on a 30. All of my used knicks for the week go in the laundry basket with all the other dirty clothes.

I wouldn't dream of washing knicks with like tea towels or anything .... the thought of that makes me feel a bit vom 🤮

So you aren't the only weirdo here op Grin

A common denominator for this type of behaviour seems to be calling underwear strange names?

Undergarments
Knicks

Hmm
StarlightLady · 06/03/2022 07:12

@HELLITHURT - I think the use of “knix”, l always spell it that way, is quite common in conversation. But “undergarments” sounds very Downton Abbey.

Regardless, the butler washes mine 😂😂😂. For anyone unsure this is a joke; albeit a bad one, I don’t have a butler really.

HoneyItIsntGoodLuck · 06/03/2022 07:21

Of course it’s a joke. Butlers don’t do the washing.

londonrach · 06/03/2022 07:23

Very strange question...in the wash basket like every one else does.

PortalooSunset · 06/03/2022 09:15

If you're talking about 'ordinary' underwear then it goes in the washing basket (and machine) along with everything else. Am post-menopause now so don't get period stained ones, and tbh even though I had horrific heavy periods I used adequate protection so that didn't really happen much. When it did I'd rinse them and chuck them straight in the machine. Along with the rest of a load. I mean, the washing machine is designed to get things clean right?!

Chippingin2 · 06/03/2022 09:31

What's most troubling about these rules is the treatment of anything to do with female genitals as near toxic and shameful. Period blood isn't going to harm your children if it goes in the same wash as their clothes. It needs washing in the same way as everything else.

Personally, I find outdoor clothes more gross, especially if I've been been to softplay!

CarolinaStabril · 06/03/2022 09:34

I think if you’ve done skids in your pants you should hand wash them first. Presumably you don’t want to see a turd through the glass door of the washing machine with all your other clothes.

Very odd post, some people really do lack any kind of common sense

This. If you travel on public transport at all, who knows what you are sitting on or brushing up against.

SailingNotSurfing · 06/03/2022 15:56

Unless you have anal leakage or faecal incontinence, then there's absolutely no reason to wash your underwear separately, and as for hiding it from the prying eyes of workmen, get a laundry basket with a lid.

You've watched too many psychological dramas where the bad guy rummages through the laundry basket for a pair of soiled pants to wank into.

Norgie · 06/03/2022 16:23

I swear I'm in bed fast asleep and having a really weird dream about someone on MN hiding undies and berating others for not doing the same.

MumUndone · 06/03/2022 18:42

'It's a bedroom, not the Serengeti' Lol!

KatyRebecca84 · 06/03/2022 18:51

You’re worried about it touching the other clothing but not worried that you have a mesh bag hanging around in full view in the bathroom full of dirty knickers! This is so bloody weird.

The fact you’re fed up of having to move a bag of crusty pants everytime someone comes over must make you see how weird this is!!

DemBonesDemBones · 06/03/2022 19:08

This is so weird. You understand what a washing machine does, right?!

Franticbutterfly · 07/03/2022 07:37

I don't understand the question.

Apparently half the people on this thread don’t either.

You can put anything dirty together, knickers, tea towels, cloths you’ve just mopped either side with and they all come out…get this, clean! 🤣

longwayoff · 07/03/2022 08:01

Blimey.

Who'd have thought it eh.. a machine for getting things clean, gets things clean!! It's a wonder me and my kids have survived me washing everything all in one go! Bonkers thread. I think @MNHQ should put it in classics tbh 😂

OnGoldenPond · 07/03/2022 17:38

60 degrees! My poor wee smalls would crinkle up and die if I washed them that hot Shock

They just get chucked in with the general 40 degree wash. But I am a well known slattern of questionable moral standing Wink
