Dirty undergarments

Where does everyone put their dirty underwear that need washing? I wouldn't put it in wash basket with the rest of my clothes. I ask because I let mine pile up (weekly) and then put in for a wash as they don't get washed with any other clothing. What I have been doing is putting them in a medium sized laundry mesh bag, that I leave in the bathroom, not in open apparent space. But if you look around well enough, you will be able to spot it!
My issue is having to move it when we have workers round (boiler is in the bathroom) or even guests. Our downstairs bathroom is quite far from the living room so our guests unfortunately decide to go to our family bathroom upstairs as it's much closer. Just annoys me that I have to move it any time someone comes over. We've had 3 workers in the last 3 week that required work in the bathroom.
It got me thinking where do people put their underwear that need washing.

Is this real? Surely someone this fastidious could never cope with sticky squelchy sex juices. And children arrive into the world slathered in far worse, your dirty knickers really can't harm them, OP.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/03/2022 08:26

Just throw them at the wall, if they stick they can stay there until you next do a wash, keeps them out of the reach of the dog.

My period pants i was authentically, in the 18th century.

katepilar · 04/03/2022 08:31

Can you pop your mesh bag with underware in the washing basket when you expect builders? Or you can keep that mesh bag in the washing basket permanantly.

TheNinjaWife · 04/03/2022 08:35

OP - I’m not sure if this has been suggested, but when I want to separate my laundry I put things into a laundry bag inside our laundry basket. Examples of things I would separate are items that may colour run, delicates or small items that may get lost in the machine if placed loosely.

loislovesstewie · 04/03/2022 08:44

You'll be telling us next that you wash your bedding every time you have sex! (Oh wait that was a thread wasn't it?)

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 04/03/2022 08:48

You aren't more cleaner than everyone else, just more crazier

Notajogger · 04/03/2022 08:53

This is so weird. Pants don't need a separate hot wash and certainly not their own storage area...

ChickenStripper · 04/03/2022 08:55

What kind of dirty undergarments can you boil at 60 degrees? 😂

HELLITHURT · 04/03/2022 08:56

You're more cleaner are you OP?

abigailsnan · 04/03/2022 09:03

Mine go in with my whites and get washed with everything else.

queenMab99 · 04/03/2022 09:13

This is silly, even if the OP is very particular about separating her knickers from other washing, there is no need to keep it in a mesh bag, which needs to be moved when visitors or workmen may see it. The dirty knickers could have their own washing container, either a box or non see through basket, and posts to mumsnet would be superfluous. The only reasons for a post like this is to prove how much cleaner OP is than other people, or for some other warped satisfaction.

Cocogreen · 04/03/2022 09:15

Don't separate except for towels.
Line dried ( in Australia).
Washing machines rinse after washing, Everything doesn't swill around endlessly in dirty water.

dizzydizzydizzy · 04/03/2022 09:15

@watchingrnfire

Wow I can't possibly be the only person that washes separate to the rest of my clothing. I don't know, but I have always done this, and clearly thought it's what most people do but obviously not it would seem. A lot of my clothes get washed at 30, I wouldn't wash underwear at 30, they are always washed at 60, perhaps this was why I have always washed separate. But also thinking back to my childhood, I do remember my mum pre-hand washing underwear before putting in the washing machine with other clothes, I wouldn't have the time to do pre hand wash, so guess that's why I've always just kept it separate.
I wash pants/knickers, sheets and towels hot.

Clothes get washed cool.

Cocogreen · 04/03/2022 09:16

@dizzydizzydizzy yes I mostly do cold washes too.

VanGoghsDog · 04/03/2022 09:20

I wash all my clothes at thirty. Occasionally I use twenty. Bedding and towels at sixty.

What problem is being washed at thirty causing to me and my underwear?

Topseyt · 04/03/2022 09:22

@Joystir59

I am reporting this thread.
Why? Absolutely no need. It's just a comical laundry thread that has turned out to be a bit of fun.
ChateauMargaux · 04/03/2022 09:24

@watchingrnfire.. practical suggestion... could you put an underwear bag inside your regular laundry basket? We have one with sections and could easily hand a string bag inside one section.

RampantIvy · 04/03/2022 09:26

Even if I put every piece of underwear that DD, DH and I own in the washing machine it still wouldn't make up a full load. So either you have a huge family with huge underwear or you are doing too many small washing machine loads.

Either way, you are bonkers.

Jk987 · 04/03/2022 09:37

@ChipButtyCurrySauce

Mine go straight in the wash with everything else! I do minimum 3 washloads a day.
3 washes a day? How big is your family? Are they full loads? I don't understand why you need 21 washes per week!
SallyWD · 04/03/2022 09:39

I chuck it in the laundry basket with other washing but I do was underwear, towels and bedding at 60 degrees and everything else at 30.

knittingaddict · 04/03/2022 09:40

Really? I'm imagining a very different scenario and I supect the person who wanted to report is too.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 04/03/2022 09:43

I put it in the laundry basket along with everything else!

Totally agree.

I’ve reported it too.

purplesequins · 04/03/2022 09:55

of course it goes into the wash basket.
with everything else.
we even wash it with everything else.
unless family members have thrush or athletes foot there is no need to wash anything separate.

ElsieLappin · 04/03/2022 09:56

I must be really scuzzy cos it all gets chucked in together with the dog towels.
My gussets don't smell of damp dog so it must be OK
