Dirty undergarments

Where does everyone put their dirty underwear that need washing? I wouldn't put it in wash basket with the rest of my clothes. I ask because I let mine pile up (weekly) and then put in for a wash as they don't get washed with any other clothing. What I have been doing is putting them in a medium sized laundry mesh bag, that I leave in the bathroom, not in open apparent space. But if you look around well enough, you will be able to spot it!
My issue is having to move it when we have workers round (boiler is in the bathroom) or even guests. Our downstairs bathroom is quite far from the living room so our guests unfortunately decide to go to our family bathroom upstairs as it's much closer. Just annoys me that I have to move it any time someone comes over. We've had 3 workers in the last 3 week that required work in the bathroom.
It got me thinking where do people put their underwear that need washing.

Honestly I can't with this type of people, just because you don't think it's normal doesn't mean it isn't. I also don't use fabric softener on underwear but I do for the rest of my clothes, so that is also another reason for separation. Quite frankly I think it's disgusting you would wash your period PANTS with clothing of the rest of the family. So you may think am weird but I think your way is weird so 🤷‍♀️ Stains don't always come out of clothes but am sure you all are fine with that, some of us are just more cleaner

The poster that mentioned eating at their friends with period stain underwear in view - there you go my point proven

I’m genuinely lost as to how you can think segregating and storing underwear in a mesh bag in open view in your bathroom is any more hygienic than throwing it in the laundry basket with the other clothes Confused

But if you really want to wash the underwear separately, why not just get a sectional laundry basket? We have one a bit like this:

Lots of people wear the same knickers when having their period as the rest of the month, and not everyone leaks/stains their knickers.

I see you've gone the classic route of suggesting people are inferior to you because most people don't do the same as you - some of us are just more cleaner (sic).

CorsicaDreaming · 04/03/2022 07:52

@watchingrnfire - I understand you'd want to wash period pants separately.

Could you just put the mesh bag in the laundry basket, so they are still kept separate and you can wash separately but if guests / workmen come round they are hidden from view ?

PerditaPerdita · 04/03/2022 07:53

@MingeofDeath

I ABSOLUTELY keep dirty tea towels separately. In a little plastic bag. And was separately. You are very right.

Underwear - period underwear soaks in a bowl, then is washed with others. Generally wash underwear with other garments by colour.

Oh, and one of DP's shorts is always kept under my pillow. 😉

AldiCandlesArePerfectlyLovely · 04/03/2022 07:54

I keep them on my person so nobody sees, then wash the lot in one go.
Just put clean stuff over the top in case your in an accident, by the end of the week you’ll be quite padded out.

whysoserious123 · 04/03/2022 07:56

Sounds like a posh person problem

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/03/2022 07:58

@iloveruby

I leave mine on the floor with the rest of my clothes which when I do my laundry i then have to sniff to check if dirty or clean....
Are you my husband?? This is EXACTLY his M.O.!
Progress2019 · 04/03/2022 07:58

@PaddleBoardingMomma Yes, luckily I read about your lying hamsters debacle in Take a Break magazine, and I complete understand why you prefer to trust the fairies now. I have a hundred separate cages lined up in my utility room (luckily it’s huge) because it’s not just me - I have daughters. They don’t live at home anymore but fed ex me their laundry. My husband has a separate utility room to me because heaven forbid we should see each other’s under garments

DietrichandDiMaggio · 04/03/2022 07:58

Oh, and one of DP's shorts is always kept under my pillow. 😉

Is this code for something?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/03/2022 07:58

oh, except he doesn't do his own laundry - he just bungs it in the basket when I ask for it to do the laundry. He's not allowed in there - he has no method at all. And I like my clothes.

knittingaddict · 04/03/2022 07:59

It's a wind up or someone really, really wanted to talk about women's dirty knickers. You decide.

whitewashing · 04/03/2022 08:02

Well, I’m quite particular about doing my washing, separating loads, treating stains etc, but I even I throw our underwear into the laundry basket with everything else. Is your underwear particularly dirty??

Toothsil · 04/03/2022 08:05

WTAF? This place gets stranger by the day!
Mine go in the laundry basket in the bathroom along with everything else. If I don't want them to be seen by visitors, I just put other washing on top of them.

katepilar · 04/03/2022 08:07

Do you mean underwear that is just worn for one day and put in the wash? My first thought was that you have sometimes heavily soiled underware and dont want other clothes to get dirty from it in which case I would either rinse the underware in the sink or store them in a separate basket.
If you feel the need to move your washing basket out of the sight of builders etc, I would just move it outside the bathroom in the hall or somewhere close. I would only move it if I though the basket would get in the way when they need the space for the work they are doing. Not because I would think they would look into it. I guess if it was just underware it feels a bit more private then a general washing but still woulnd bother or fear if it was in a basket. Not piles of used underwear on the floor.

mammajustkilledagnat · 04/03/2022 08:07

It's dirty laundry, not nuclear waste OP.

Branleuse · 04/03/2022 08:08

i felt like i was already super organised by sorting out lights and darks. Pants, even period pants get all washed in together with towels and normal clothes. I wash most of it at lower temperatures and its fine esp if you use laundry antibac too

loislovesstewie · 04/03/2022 08:08

Are the workmen rummaging through the washing basket then?

Brefugee · 04/03/2022 08:10

gosh. Fancy guests knowing you wear underwear! and there is no issue with all washing going in one pile.

HRTQueen · 04/03/2022 08:10

I’m the wash basket with other clothes needing to be washed

And then in the machine along with towels and even tea towels Shock

MayBMaybenot · 04/03/2022 08:11

How very odd! It goes in the basket with everything else and gets washed in colour appropriate batches - white stuff with white stuff, colours with colours etc.

(Having said that, I used to work with a girl who washed her underwear separately from her DH's as she didn't want any "cross contamination" - her words!!! .... some very strange people about .... )

Parker231 · 04/03/2022 08:12

All dirty laundry goes in the basket in the laundry room and when it’s full whoever notices it first puts it in the machine. All dirty clothes are equal - no special loads. Majority is washed at 30.

ofwarren · 04/03/2022 08:12

@MrsClatterbuck

Mine goes into the laundry basket. I do sanitise my hands after putting it into the machine but I don't segregate any underwear. I do use Napisan in the wash.

You sanitise your hands after touching your own underwear?

Do these people know how washing machines work?

I wonder if they wash plates and cutlery separate from the ones their partner used in case they get their spit on a fork they may put in their mouth. Oh hang in, it all comes out clean 🤣 Like a washing machine! 🙈

katepilar · 04/03/2022 08:18

Have just read you other comment, OP. I get now where you are coming from, a bit. I get that you wash your underwear separately. I think you can get washing baskets with inside separate spaces if you want to sort your washing as you go. I just separate it before I do a wash, eventhough I do have three baskets - whites/light colours, darks that both get washed at 40 and bedlinen/towels that get washed at 60.

I only know about one person that washes underwear and socks at 60 and separate from other stuff and she claims it for health issues /which is fine if it works for her/ and that everyone needs to be doing it /which isnt ok in my view/. She posts this repeatedly in a fcb group that deals with washable pads and period underware.

Mind you, be aware that most if not all modern washing mashines only have the temp up at 60 for a few minutes and for the germs to be killed it needs to be at least about 10 minutes /I dont remember the exact number of minutes but simply the mashines dont do it for long enough these days/. I still wash my towels and bedlinen at 60 out of habit and they do come out a bit differently washed at 60 vs 40 so I keep washing them at 60.

Any socks or knicker that accidently get washed at 60 shrink in my household and I dont like them like that.

MrsMigginsCat · 04/03/2022 08:19

I've read some bonkers stuff on MN in my time, but this is up there with the best of them. In the Miggins' house everything goes in together because the washing machine does this thing called washing which makes everything clean all at once.
