Dirty undergarments

Where does everyone put their dirty underwear that need washing? I wouldn't put it in wash basket with the rest of my clothes. I ask because I let mine pile up (weekly) and then put in for a wash as they don't get washed with any other clothing. What I have been doing is putting them in a medium sized laundry mesh bag, that I leave in the bathroom, not in open apparent space. But if you look around well enough, you will be able to spot it!
My issue is having to move it when we have workers round (boiler is in the bathroom) or even guests. Our downstairs bathroom is quite far from the living room so our guests unfortunately decide to go to our family bathroom upstairs as it's much closer. Just annoys me that I have to move it any time someone comes over. We've had 3 workers in the last 3 week that required work in the bathroom.
It got me thinking where do people put their underwear that need washing.

@MrsMigginsCat

I've read some bonkers stuff on MN in my time, but this is up there with the best of them. In the Miggins' house everything goes in together because the washing machine does this thing called washing which makes everything clean all at once.
We must have the same magical machine, mine does this too Grin
Itwasntmeright · 04/03/2022 09:58

Oh no, is this another MN rule, that one shouldn’t wash one’s dirty underwear with everything else? I just chuk mine in the dirty washing basket and it goes in the machine with all my other stuff. Clearly I’m a disgusting heathen.

Iamkmackered1979 · 04/03/2022 10:05

all mine goes in together once separated into light/dark etc wouldn’t occur to me to wash them on their own. What bacteria are you breeding that you want to keep it separate from anything else? Surely your trousers etc would be contaminated too? I don’t think that’s more cleaner at all. My laundry basket has a lid so no one sees the pants etc but my dog loves socks so helps keep him out. Also wouldn’t keep any stained underwear let alone hang it up in view of guests, If it’s not clean after treatment and a wash it never will be. 😂😂😂😂

rainbowmash · 04/03/2022 10:08

Today I learned I am a dirty scrub because I put my pants AND my t shirts I to a device specifically used for decontaminating both.

OP, it's cool to have your own laundry preferences (I'm a stickler for handwashing delicates) but if you get this angry about it you're destined for a fluff piece in the tabloids. Or maybe that was the point?

Otherpeoplesteens · 04/03/2022 10:09

My Y-fronts run amok around the house when I take them off. Some just sit still by the side of the bed, others swing from the chandeliers like chimps, others still make their way obediently to the laundry basket.

When I'm about to do a load of whites I just whistle and they all come running to the the utility room.

NippyWoowoo · 04/03/2022 10:30

creepy

ElsieLappin · 04/03/2022 10:38

Although my dog towels may smell of gusset Hmm Grin

EthelTheAardvark · 04/03/2022 10:47

Stains don't always come out of clothes but am sure you all are fine with that, some of us are just more cleaner

No need to be smugger-than-thou, OP (especially with those iffy grammar standards). There is nothing about what you do that makes you cleaner than other people. If you really believe that your dirty underwear will taint other pieces of clothing when in the wash, logically you should wash each piece separately.

Me too!

I'd be more concerned about my health than my washing habits if my underwear needed a separate wash!

Cas112 · 04/03/2022 10:53

Such a weird question, why would you separate?

BashfulClam · 04/03/2022 11:23

Wow my pants and socks go in the laundry basket then go in a 60c wash with the towels each week..

wherethecrawdadsare · 04/03/2022 14:26

Jeez. You are all filthy. Surely it's a brand new pair (pre washed) every day?
Who washes knickers?!

I love this thread, gave me a serious laugh. Flowers for everyone that contributed.

Please don't give her ideas, there's enough climate change with op running the washing machine on 60 for a single sock.

Why won't you wash knickers with tea towels?? I just throw everything in together [/quote]
🤢🤮

PussGirl · 04/03/2022 15:27

I put my knickers & bras & tights / stockings in a mesh bag & then sling that in with everything else apart from towels / bedlinen.

FalloutShelter · 04/03/2022 15:36

Mine go in a box in the garden... it's only about a foot under the earth.

Doesn't everyone do this?

ChickenStripper · 04/03/2022 15:37

Not only this BUT:

After washing underwear in the washing machine, you should always clean your machine. The e-coli and bacteria from your underwear can stick to your washing machine and transfer to other loads of laundry. To wash your machine, simply add two cups of white vinegar and run an empty cycle. This will leave your machine sparkling clean and ready for your next load of washing

we all have germ ridden machines now!

ApolloandDaphne · 04/03/2022 15:40

I yack everything in together. Both onto the washing basket and the washing machine and I never clean my machine afterwards. I'm obviously skanky but I don't care. Life is too short and all that.

whywouldntyou · 04/03/2022 15:40

@Im2022

None of your business.

People are getting more and more weird I tell you.

How bloody hard is it to hide a mesh bag around your house? Stick it in your wardrobe or under your duvet until the repair men have gone. 🙄

'Under the DUVET?????'

But then she'd have to wash the bed sheets because they'd be contaminated! Confused

OfstedOffred · 04/03/2022 15:44

I've got a 2 year old and a 5 year old. There's nothing on my pants that can compete with the filth they get all over themselves daily, so it would be genuinely mad to split it all out.

BuddhaForMary · 04/03/2022 15:47

😂😂😂

Abaababa · 04/03/2022 15:53

@watchingrnfire

Honestly I can't with this type of people, just because you don't think it's normal doesn't mean it isn't. I also don't use fabric softener on underwear but I do for the rest of my clothes, so that is also another reason for separation. Quite frankly I think it's disgusting you would wash your period PANTS with clothing of the rest of the family. So you may think am weird but I think your way is weird so 🤷‍♀️ Stains don't always come out of clothes but am sure you all are fine with that, some of us are just more cleaner

The poster that mentioned eating at their friends with period stain underwear in view - there you go my point proven

Why are you getting so defensive?! YOU are the one that asked a public forum...
BlondeWidow · 04/03/2022 15:54

@watchingrnfire

Wow I can't possibly be the only person that washes separate to the rest of my clothing. I don't know, but I have always done this, and clearly thought it's what most people do but obviously not it would seem. A lot of my clothes get washed at 30, I wouldn't wash underwear at 30, they are always washed at 60, perhaps this was why I have always washed separate. But also thinking back to my childhood, I do remember my mum pre-hand washing underwear before putting in the washing machine with other clothes, I wouldn't have the time to do pre hand wash, so guess that's why I've always just kept it separate.
60 degrees will not kill bacteria OP. Wash them with other clothes and just add a capful of disinfectant. 'Laundry Antibacterial' is really not necessary! Look on the back of a disinfectant bottle and you'll see it's meant for laundry (amongst other things)
BlondeWidow · 04/03/2022 15:56

@MrsClatterbuck

Mine goes into the laundry basket. I do sanitise my hands after putting it into the machine but I don't segregate any underwear. I do use Napisan in the wash.
Cheap disinfectant works just as well and much cheaper
