Dumped for eating Maltesers

Been seeing someone for a few weeks. We went to cinema last night and he bought popcorn and I bought a big bag of maltesers. I opened them when we sat down and began eating them. He said “why don’t you wait until the film starts?” So I just laughed and said “too tempting” as a joke. He seemed irritated and said something like “you won’t have any left by time the film starts”. This got my back up a bit and I just carried on as I was. I finished the bag around 10 minutes into the film. I saw him watching me and felt his disapproval Hmm but why?? It didn’t effect him, he had his popcorn. He was really grumpy throughout the film and afterwards was quite off with me. We were meant to be going for something to eat but he said he wasn’t really in the mood and would be heading home.

Before I went to bed I text him asking if I’d done something to upset him and he replied “I don’t think this will work out, it’s nothing personal x” Hmm I replied “ok no worries”.

It’s been bugging me all day as before we sat down in the cinema he was absolutely fine!!! We were laughing and joking etc, no bad feeling at all and he literally changed as soon as we sat down.

Have I been dumped for bad Malteser etiquette?!?

Omg he sounds like a knob. Be thankful you've escaped . Imagine how controlling he'd be with real things to worry about

Sweetpea1532 · 07/03/2022 17:31

There you are, @NewYearCalavicci....I was beginning to wonder if you were hiding in the supply closet at Maltesers International headquarters whilst scarfing down handfuls of Maltesers all in the name of quality controlsGrin

You had a lucky escape. I had an ex like this. Exact same scenario with popcorn on our first cinema date. I didnt spot it as a red flag. Along with other issues in the relationship it continued to escalate to the point he would try to dictate the pace and amount of my popcorn eating in the cinema. He said he couldn't accept anything other than this from me as it made him see me as a disgusting greedy slob raming as much popcorn as I could in. This sort of behaviour permeates into everything. I was a size 12 when we started dating and a size 4-6 when I left him. 10 years on and I still have issues with food

Count yourself lucky! Go forth and find a man who deserves you. 🙂

As a side point - For any one in a similar situation (ladies & gents) I highly recommend you seek help in these situations in anyway possible. It took me a while but once I did I managed to move on safely and am now in a great place in my life. I promise it cam be done and here are people out there who can help. Smile

CourtRand · 08/03/2022 00:04

He either wants to control your weight and would never you for eating all the time or he wants to control you generally and hates that you refused to obey.

Lucky escape

CourtRand · 08/03/2022 00:06

@Momicrone

Bingeing is bingeing, be it food or alcohol
One bag of maltesers isn't a binge

😂 comedy and pedantic all in one go!

Thewindwhispers · 11/03/2022 22:58

You’ve ben dumped for disobeying him. Today it was telling you what to rat, if you’d gone along with that he’d have started telling you what to wear, what friends you can have…

Lucky escape I think.

Either that or he wanted a maltesar.

lborgia · 11/03/2022 23:10

@ClemFandangoo - is a pot of Ben and Jerry's not a single portion? 🤨
