Is there something in the air?

My 8 year old daughter came in from school and literally had a breakdown because I couldn't put up her LED lights in her room tonight. I have never her seen her like that before. We have spoken since and as far as she says there is nothing bothering her at school, or anything but boy oh boy. She had the tantrum of all tantrums, she was slamming doors, crying, screaming she wished she was never born, hates her life, hates me, hates her auntie, hates her cousin, I'm the worst mum ever. Crying and hyperventilating. Swinging between screaming hysterically, breaking down crying apologising and then storming away screaming insults again. I tried to help her regulate her emotions but there was no calming her down. She wasn't allowed tv tonight due to her behaviour and thankfully went for an early night without much of a fight. I am in shock with how terribly out of character she behaves tonight.

Upon speaking to my sister, her daughter was the same, complete nightmare all night. I then spoke to my friend and both of her sons have been really challenging since finishing school also.

Anyone else's acting up?

Me. I’m bursting into tears for no reason

britneyisfree · 02/03/2022 21:35

New moon today!

WeirdlyKind · 02/03/2022 21:37

There's a massive amount of bad stuff going on and kids pick up on it.

mashville · 02/03/2022 21:39

@britneyisfree

New moon today!
Oh really! I'll need to give this a Google, love this stuff.

I agree with weirdly above. The news, which sadly they cannot avoid, is terrifying and incredibly sad. She may be frightened and overwhelmed

CorpusCallosum · 02/03/2022 21:41

Yup DD was a terror tonight according to DH. Thankfully I was out so I missed the drama but I also had a completely random cry in the car 🙈

Workinghardeveryday · 02/03/2022 21:42

We had this the other night. Turns out they are terrified because of the war. Kids can’t process their feelings sometimes.

All the kids at school talking about it and nucs

Chocolattay · 02/03/2022 21:43

Yeah I only have a baby myself so can’t personally comment but I have friends who have despaired that their kids are anxious over Ukraine.

Friend says it’s the talk of the playground at her DD’s school.

SparkleSpangle · 02/03/2022 21:44

It's the moon. It is considered mumbo jumbo but I'm sure there is truth to it. Particularly a full moon.

I worked in a school for a long time. If it was a full moon I'd say in the morning it would be a bad day today and it always was. People thought I was psychic!

EmoIsntDead · 02/03/2022 21:46

I'm a secondary teacher and the kids have been fucking mental for the last few days, especially the younger ones

Chocolattay · 02/03/2022 21:46

I think the war and just the general uneasiness over what is to come affecting a lot of people, kids and adults alike. DH said his workplace was unbearable the morning after it all kicked off, people on edge and snapping at each other for no reason.

Ihavenoideawhatimdoinghelp · 02/03/2022 21:49

Dd has been absolutely awful today, she's a toddler so I know, I know, big feelings and stuff. But even so dp and myself were both tearing our hair out by bedtime which never happens.

KindlyKanga · 02/03/2022 21:54

DH is in a foul mood. I think it's all the war talk.

unacceptabletolerances · 02/03/2022 21:55

8 yr old here been completely awful this evening. Won't do a thing we've asked and had to send him to bed early. Might be Ukraine, might be the moon, but certainly 100% exhausting!

squishmycherry · 02/03/2022 21:56

Ughhh yes I've really had the worst day with mine. Tantrum after tantrum. They're too young to have any clue about the news etc so fairly sure it's not that!

MimsyBorogroves · 02/03/2022 21:56

Work in a secondary. Today has been awful.

mashville · 02/03/2022 21:58

At least we're all in it together? Grin hang in there!

It’s the moon. My mum was manager of a psychiatric hospital, she said you could time it by the moon on the days when patients seemed to act up etc. I also have a teacher friend who says the same about her pupils

marmitegirl01 · 02/03/2022 21:59

Plus it was wet play here so kids are feral 🤷‍♀️

Whereohwhereohwhere · 02/03/2022 22:00

I was about to Google if there was a full moon tonight as its been awful here. Looks like it's the new moon to blame.

IdentifyingAsAPrincess · 02/03/2022 22:00

DS came out of school crying over something that wouldn't usually be a big deal. Early night for him. Is that moon thing real or a joke?

NoToLandfill · 02/03/2022 22:05

Probably were told about the war in Ukraine and she doesn't know how to process the information.

BobHadBitchTits · 02/03/2022 22:06

Weirdly, my normally twathead five year old has been lovely today. I wonder if it's the moon!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 02/03/2022 22:06

I teach infants and the moon is definitely a thing. So is windy weather- it whips them up into a frenzy.

Feeling tired this evening 😴

liveforsummer · 02/03/2022 22:08

Actually I think there is something in the air. dd9 has been extra emotional. She always is tbf but is much worse. I'm a TA and all day from TA's up to SLT we've been like wtf 🤷🏼‍♀️😬. It's been crazy.
