Is there something in the air?

My 8 year old daughter came in from school and literally had a breakdown because I couldn't put up her LED lights in her room tonight. I have never her seen her like that before. We have spoken since and as far as she says there is nothing bothering her at school, or anything but boy oh boy. She had the tantrum of all tantrums, she was slamming doors, crying, screaming she wished she was never born, hates her life, hates me, hates her auntie, hates her cousin, I'm the worst mum ever. Crying and hyperventilating. Swinging between screaming hysterically, breaking down crying apologising and then storming away screaming insults again. I tried to help her regulate her emotions but there was no calming her down. She wasn't allowed tv tonight due to her behaviour and thankfully went for an early night without much of a fight. I am in shock with how terribly out of character she behaves tonight.

Upon speaking to my sister, her daughter was the same, complete nightmare all night. I then spoke to my friend and both of her sons have been really challenging since finishing school also.

Anyone else's acting up?

@Chocolattay

Come to think of it, I’ve actually been in a foul mood today as has DH but I assumed it was anxiety over the war.

But I deffo think there’s something in the whole Full Moon thing. When I worked in a restaurant at uni we would always dread the full moon. Them shifts were absolutely chaotic.

There isn't a full moon today. Its the new moon, so no visible moon at all.

MurmuratingStarling · 02/03/2022 22:37

I am feeling blue, and low, and exhausted for no reason just lately, and quite a number of things have gone wrong this year. Nothing utterly devastating or major, just niggles, and stupid things going wrong, but when they're all combined, it's exhausting.

So so SO tired of all the bad shit so far in the 2020s.

Come on Universe. Give us a break! Sad

I agree with @saraclara it's not the moon. The moon can make you feel energetic or a bit blue, or whatever, but the way many people feeling at the moment is nothing to do with the moon. It's how utterly shit everything is right now.

SuitcaseOfWhine · 02/03/2022 22:38

My son was only a nightmare for 20 mins today. Wish it was a full moon all of the time!

UsernameNotSavedAgain · 02/03/2022 22:39

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers

I teach infants and the moon is definitely a thing. So is windy weather- it whips them up into a frenzy.

Feeling tired this evening 😴

Definitely agree with the wind. When DD was young she used to go crazy. I wasn’t sure who was worse, her or the cats Confused

There isn't a full moon right now. Confused It's not due for over 2 weeks!
mashville · 02/03/2022 22:39

@saraclara

Is it fuck the moon.

It's as though some people on this thread are living under a rock. Kids are dealing with some REALLY scary stuff right now, that they simply can't process and are too scared to even ask about.

I can't believe all the laughing emojis. For goodness sake, talk to and listen to your kids, and try to imagine and empathise with what they're going through right now.

Oh dear, the moon is certainly affecting your mood.

Oops I meant new moon.

Imissmoominmama · 02/03/2022 22:40

I’ve cried twice today, and been completely unable to concentrate on my work. It’s not to do with war- it’s just been a totally meh day.

whatinthenameofhen · 02/03/2022 22:43

My daughter has been the same. No reason for, just hysterical. I am feeling very frayed around the edges too.

purpleme12 · 02/03/2022 22:44

Well mine acts like this but it's not out of character unfortunately

Says the person who im going to confidently assume does not work with kids, at least not on a daily caring capacity

The last 2 weeks at school have been ‘challenging’.
The mood since half term has been very strange. Lots of shrieking on the playground, incessant talking, really silly, immature behaviour. Obviously not all but enough to make it noticeable.
I have been blaming the weather. Cold, wet, windy, miserable.

lollipoprainbow · 02/03/2022 22:51

Yes my dd 9 she has ASD so meltdowns are nothing new but she seems extra anxious etc at the moment.

Catra · 02/03/2022 22:55

I've tested positive for Covid today, so there's definitely something in the air.

28birthdays · 02/03/2022 22:58

Yep.

DS has been attacking us most of the day (he has autism)

DD who is usually so well behaved has been shrieking and sulking like a good en.

What's the theory about the moon? I hadn't heard of that before.

ChocolateIsAlwaysTheAnswer · 02/03/2022 22:58

Yes, feel really down and anxious of late

Vitani · 02/03/2022 23:03

If the moon had such effects, wouldn't there be some scientific studies that prove it by now? The same with astrology. I mean, it's been a concept for ages, there should be enough evidence to support it, not just anecdotes.

TheMagpie · 02/03/2022 23:04

There's a war and a pandemic going on, nothing to do with the bloody moon. Of course people are stressed, kiddos pick up on the whispers and rumours without fully understanding a lot of the time.

TulipsGarden · 02/03/2022 23:07

My toddler was having a massive strop when I picked him up from nursery and all the kids were fighting and the staff stressed out. It's usually very calm at pick-up time!

I feel ok but utterly exhausted.

How would you go about proving that?

CiderWithLizzie · 02/03/2022 23:07

My dd is very anxious about the war in Ukraine - they are definitely talking about it at school, as they should be. I think it would be strange if they weren’t very unsettled.

I totally agree about the wind. It's the same with dogs and other animals like horses.
SoItWas · 02/03/2022 23:09

I've been swinging from ragey to weepy all day today.

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/03/2022 23:11

Puberty incoming? My DD was like this and started her periods when she was 8. She was a bloody devil. Lasted til she was about 22. Sorry Thanks

Well seeing the moon controls entire oceans surely it's not impossible to imagine that it could possibly have some subtle effects on a human brain that is over 70% water. I don't think that's a particularly woo concept even if much of the actual (huge amount) of evidence is anecdotal
