For those wanting and able to offer financial help to individuals and families in need, there are lots of opportunities listed on Acts435, with some requests even expiring as early as tomorrow with no contributions so far.

For those needing help, go to Acts435, click on 'get help' and search for organisations in your area.

@gingerhills

Good advice but you absolutely don't have to go to uni to get rich. Many top entrepreneurs didn't. And many uni graduates aren't well off.

My way of getting out of poverty was to set up my own business and just keep raising the fees to clients each year until I was earning a good amount.

Your absolutely right, but self employment isn’t for everyone, also when you’ve struggled to feed yourself job security can be something hard to let go off.

I for one aspire to be self employed but it was studies that give me the business idea. I think it’s about forming the right path for you as a person and it’s good there are so many different ideas floating about on here.
I understand not everyone is academic and don’t even want to go to uni or see the benefit I just wanted to highlight the point it’s not out of reach as it can sometimes feel that way when you don’t have the right set up.
Plus the loans and council tax discount did help support me.

Sent you a PM. My first ever so hope it works.

YANBU.

Lots of good advice on here so my suggestion is actually for people who are doing ok - who aren’t drowning in debt/bills/section 21/refugee/sanctions/low pay/financial abuse/zero hours contracts/disability/childcare/rising living costs.
Think about ring theory. What can you do in your privileged position to help someone out instead of burdening them with more judgement? Not just financially. Maybe remove some smaller expectations on people like charity requests at school and on Facebook. Maybe offer someone a job or a pay rise. Maybe don’t judge if they fuck up in the first week or they don’t fit in because they haven’t got the right clothes/style or school has phoned to collect their child. Just give people a break.

CarolinaStabril · 02/03/2022 20:45

But some people just don’t want to better themselves either

Main reason for being poor is mindset not circumstance.

Scottishflower65 · 02/03/2022 20:46

Totally agree @Lifetheuniverseandeverything.
Be kind. Do not burden others. Give people a chance.

It's great that it worked out but some people take this gamble and it doesn't. Imagine if your set out with this business in January 2020?!

CarolinaStabril · 02/03/2022 21:00

Obviously people are allowed to disagree and have different opinions, but this is my opinion based on my own experience and those around me 😊

Yes, it's not just about money, but losing the judgement around people with less and seeing how maybe instead of being judgemental and doling out advice like some kind of guru, and thinking that you've done your bit and told poor people what their problems are, how they've caused them and how they perpetuate them and how to fix them, just be more open minded and stop behaving like not having enough money to live on is a moral failing that can be solved by trying harder.

As I said it’s just my opinion based on my own experience. You don’t have to agree but there’s no need to be rude

You've got to be kidding right??

Morgysmum · 02/03/2022 21:03

I know that feeling. We haven't had a holiday in ages, and only just cleared the credit card from the last one.
I had use Groupon, to be able to afford it, then sold some stuff on Ebay for spending money. Unfortunately my partner couldn't just stay at the holiday park, but had to do other stuff as well, which is nice, but cost a small fortune, for our budget.
He doesn't seem to have a concept about money, saying we need to put x amount of money away a month, which would be nice, but 9 times out of 10, i am skint before next payday.
He makes more money than me, but likes to buy nibbles, think chocolate, sweets and lots of junk food, pretty much every day, so that's a fiver plus a day. He has stopped drinking, but would easily send £10 on booze then nibbles. I am hoping, that he hasn't had a drink for a couple of months as I had said I am desperate for a holiday and it's his fault as, he is always eating and drinking our savings away.
But then he whinges, that he is skint and borrowing money off me, till payday 🤦‍♀️he is preaching to the choir here. He is on a really good wage too, I am on minium wage, I even started cycling to work ti try and save, the bus fare, but nearly a year down the road, I am no better off.
I did try to retain, but due to been dyslexic and not good at maths, employers don't want to know. Another kick, is because I was tested before statements were a thing, now everyone wants a statement, £700 plus to say I am dyslexic, I can help yo towards the cost, but that still leaving me over £100, it might as well be the full price. Its like sorry without this peice of paper, I am making it up, So I am stuck.

Not at all, as soon as my mindset changed everything else improved and fell in to place. Poverty is a viscous cycle that is very difficult to break out of and it of course effects mental health

@CarolinaStabril

By goodness you've solved it.

I really didn't realise that my boss only pays nmw because I've got a poor mindset! And that it won't cover the increases we're seeing and those to come is because of my mindset and not the fact that what comes in doesn't extend to what goes out.
🤦

Rosebell75 · 02/03/2022 21:08

I don’t agree it’s the main reason at all but I can see how these threads might feed into that belief.

Any potential idea or suggestion is promptly thrown back at posters. Any positive example of how people have managed to change their situation is shut down. Anyone who has achieved anything at all in life has only done so by having it handed to them on a plate or born with a silver spoon.

For the vast majority of people that couldn’t be further from the truth.

CarolinaStabril · 02/03/2022 21:10

But you’re not looking at the bigger picture are you? Your boss pays you nmw because that’s wage of the job you’re doing. Surety you made that decision to get that job?

dottydodah · 02/03/2022 21:10

It makes me laugh as so many times we get why didnt so and so work harder in School? Well guess what a lot of people did! Nurses and Teachers are both needing a degree now .However pay, esp in big cities is not excessive and many teachers still struggle .The Guardian article "Homeless Teachers" highlights their plight . The right wing media seems intent on pushing "The American /English "dream on us .The reality is many people can hit hard times or be a JAM ,the cost of living gets hiked up month after month and suddenly are in difficult circumstances .I have been trying to save 50 pounds per month but often dip into it !
