Waitrose

Just tried the 'new offers' on Waitrose. You have download the offers at home but then scan to scan a QR code at the til point and click into a coupon for every offer. Surely they could put the offers directly into your Waitrose Card like M&S Sparks Card does?
Given John Lewis is on a downward track - surely making shopping difficult at Waitrose won't help keep customers. Anybody else found this as unnecessarily complicated?

I have no interest and time to be downloading bloody vouchers!!

This ^^

BooseysMom · 23/03/2022 14:23

An update re the new vouchers. I went with phone in hand to test the vouchers, managed to download them in the hardest part of the store to get a connection and saved £6 with a save £4 on £40 shop plus my vouchers. So this week I am happy with the downloaded ones and as long as it continues, I will likely stay loyal to W although they haven't come back to me about how long the vouchers will be running. I can't imagine they will be available every week forever more!

smogsville · 25/03/2022 10:00

Update for anyone who's interested: vouchers continue to work beyond the specific product in question.

I had £2.50 off frozen chicken goujons which worked against two bags of frozen chips (that I actually needed).

And my voucher for £2 off Aberdeen Angus mince worked off an already discounted brined oven ready chicken, meaning I got the chicken for £1.79.

This does feel a bit 'wrong' insofar as I am merrily gaming the system, but this week butter has gone up to £1.70 a packet, so I'm thinking it's every woman for herself out there...

Fromthebirdsnest · 25/03/2022 10:11

We have a large Waitrose with clothing area , wine bar and sushi counter plus a cafe , I usually shop there as it's the closest to me but I am really annoy ed about not having a free paper as i get my husband's paper everytime, but it's still really convenient as im shopping pick up bits of children s clothes if I need to and usually pick up a sushi platter for dinner and go to the cafe after but they've stopped doing free coffee , the vouchers are rubbish and a faff .. However I can't see me moving supermarkets as the service is far superior still and the facilities are still much better than other supermarkets ...

vjg13 · 25/03/2022 13:55

@smogsville I have dutifully bought the products I had the vouchers for but will try on my next visit. Wink

longwayoff · 25/03/2022 14:42

Too faffy. I just ignore the damned things.

jamandmarmaladeoncrumpets · 27/03/2022 23:45

i wouldn't miss it if it went to the wall now.

smogsville · 30/03/2022 20:30

@vjg13 today I used two vouchers - £4.50 off Parmesan and £2 off cheddar - to score a beautiful, enormous whole Reblochon in one of those nice earthenware dishes for £1.50 (already reduced from £10 to £8 as all the No.1 cheese on promotion). I'm a moral vacuum, aren't I?

Hairbrush123 · 30/03/2022 20:48

Waitrose must be learning. While coupons are still fidgety - they are quite a saving. Saved £6 on a £27 shop, as well as 20% off selected fruit. Well done Waitrose!

longwayoff · 30/03/2022 20:48

Ooh different vouchers from my mundane stuff. Feel quite envious. Enjoy the cheeseWine

Lolabalola · 30/03/2022 22:46

I have moaned , and fairs fair probably still will !
BUT today in post I got 8 vouchers valid for over three weeks , for £8 off a £40 shop, which actually really suits the way I shop there, so big up for that Waitrose
( still find opening app at till and scanning the vouchers a right pia ...)

vjg13 · 31/03/2022 17:47

@smogsville You are going to have a proud moment... I used my salmon fillet voucher for a different fish! No arrests were made!
@Lolabalola I screen shot them and my card and it's slightly easier and quicker to show.

smogsville · 02/04/2022 17:30

Happy days @vjg13 it's going to taste all the sweeter for the subterfuge.

I think on reflection I may just need to get out more Grin

Grantanow · 06/04/2022 12:26

The whole Waitrose voucher thing is quite a faff. We don't shop every week despite being regular Waitrose customers. We tend to shop with delivery every three weeks so most vouchers are out of date because they only last a week. I think the scheme is designed to look good but keep savings to a minimum. Given the cost of living and inflation we are seriously thinking of shopping elsewhere. The delivery offer is not good on meat and fish in my view.

isthisit83 · 06/04/2022 12:38

The offers only work for one item as well! I got 50p off Almond milk but only worked for one carton and I wanted several 🙄

longwayoff · 06/04/2022 13:00

Who's getting the ok deals? Not me. £1 off each, max 2 items, which they specify. Not worth the effort.

Ablababla · 06/04/2022 13:24

I flat out don’t have time for faffing around with coupons like this. I understand that the free paper had to go but the coupons feel like a giant fuck you. I’d rather they have nothing rather give me a residual sense of guilt for not wasting my precious time with planning and managing a whole lot of extra stuff for 50p.

I’ve shopped at Waitrose for about 15 years. Have switched to Sainsburys in the lsat couple of months.

woodhill · 06/04/2022 13:33

I could only upload 2 vouchers, why can't I have all the ones I am offered or am I doing it wrong

BarbaraofSeville · 06/04/2022 13:46

You're only allowed two vouchers, but at least it asks you if you're sure you want it now. The first time, I clicked on the first two vouchers not realising you could only have two, and then it wouldn't even let me look at the others.

I had a decent saving of £2.50 to £3 off the curries (which were also on offer, so only cost 50 p) and posh pizzas, but they keep giving me £1-1.50 off the cans of tonic that I buy, that have been OOS the last 3 times I've been in Angry.

But it is faffy and takes time at the till even when you've got your voucher ready on your phone, as it times out and you have to open it up again.

BooseysMom · 06/04/2022 14:36

Yes I agree. I feel sorry for the poor checkout staff having to talk me through the process every time. They have great patience and still call me madam!! (Whilst cursing under their breath mo doubt!!)

woodhill · 06/04/2022 16:35

Why can't you have all the things like Sparks

How daft, it's only a few pence savings

smogsville · 06/04/2022 21:35

Today for the third week in a row they offered me £4.50 off a large wodge of Parmesan. I chose that voucher and used it to buy the big block of cheddar I actually needed. For my second one I picked the £2 off cheddar voucher and used it at the till to see if it would work off yoghurts, it does.

Basically just pick the two highest value vouchers you're offered each week and buy whatever you want as they seem to work.

Agree that having to have acrobatic hands is a bit of a faff but together with my free paper I got just shy of £10 off a £30 shop this morning so I don't mind.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/04/2022 21:41

Wait, you don't have to buy the thing that the voucher is for?

How did people work that out and can you buy anything or does it need to be the same product type, eg cheese?

I thought they'd stopped the free paper too? I don't have the app and just look on the website. Is the paper just in the app?

StoneofDestiny · 06/04/2022 21:55

So popped in this morning - remembered I hadn't looked at the vouchers offered on my 'phone. Thought I'd best check if the products were in before opting for the voucher. Of course, that means stopping to look at your mobile -- and risking the wrath of shoppers who think you are texting your pals or something!

Lolabalola · 06/04/2022 22:24

@smogsville you need to be careful encouraging this level of rebellion, they will remove your free paper perk if they find out Grin
Ps do you use the self service till or brave the check out !
