The way the Tory government are acting now makes it feel like all the lockdowns were a waste of time

Just lifting all the restrictions as if it was all a waste of time. It makes me feel like a mug for everything we went through, especially as they were having their parties and not even following the rules. I think it's bad for peoples mental health as well.

They weren't meant to last forever. It's been 2 years! What do you want to happen?

IrishMamaMia · 21/02/2022 17:26

I voted YANBU as I know exactly how you feel but I guess it's inevitable. Restrictions were never going to last forever though and thank goodness for that.

Poetrypatty · 21/02/2022 17:27

People still to have access to testing and to sick pay, care taken about shielding people and the vulnerable. Ventilation in schools.

No more isolating colleagues! Thank hod for that one

GirlInACountrySong · 21/02/2022 17:27

No not everybody has sick pay!! And there's no more free testing

This ^^ By far the worst impacted group here are vulnerable people, and in particular vulnerable children. But when did this government ever care one bit about vulnerable people?

Lazypuppy · 21/02/2022 17:31

You can still get testibg i'm sure, you just have to pay for it, as it should be now after 2 years.

Sick pay, work for a company who offers good sick pay, as plenty of people tried to do before covid. There are other illnesses other than covid

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/02/2022 17:31

I loathe Johnson, utterly loathe him. At every touch and turn, he's taken bad decisions, usually too late.

Having said that, lockdowns achieved the aim of reducing pressure on the NHS - which was all they could do, unless we closed our borders entirely like New Zealand.

It couldn't go on forever.

WindyState · 21/02/2022 17:31

It's the Tories saying that it's now down to personal responsibility, but by removing free tests and support for isolation they take that choice away from many people who will have to go into work knowing they may have covid but without that safety net.

So the tories being tories, basically. Cunts.

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/02/2022 17:32

Free lateral flow test kits are still available - I ordered some 10 minutes ago.

toomuchlaundry · 21/02/2022 17:32

We didn’t have vaccinations/anti virals, so we are in a better place. I’m sure if we had done nothing more people who have been ill/dead.

Not sure if I still feel comfortable visiting my DM without testing first, as rates are still high

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 21/02/2022 17:32

Op I am a vunreable person and I am so happy everything has ended now.

If people want to test they can. And some people have never got sick pay anyway! So I agree with that but not from a covid perspective.

This couldn't go on forever

Poetrypatty · 21/02/2022 17:33

Only in up till the end of March. Then there's no more unless you pay £20 a box Hmm nice little earner for someone

Ya b completely unreasonable.
We had restrictions at times when the virus was rife, there were large numbers of deaths and hospitals were being over whelmed.
Now none of the above is true and the virus is milder than previously.
I appreciate that a lot of masochists are desperate for restrictions to go on forever but most people just want life to go back to normal.

DisappearingGirl · 21/02/2022 17:33

I don't think the lockdowns were a waste of time, as they prevented spread while we were all unvaccinated

GirlInACountrySong · 21/02/2022 17:34

Restrictions were only ever intended to reduce pressure on NHS

We've done that

They were costing the tax payer a fortune!! We can't just keep giving free tests out!
Poetrypatty · 21/02/2022 17:34

If people want to test they can.

They won't be able to any more after what 5 weeks time. So it's just free for all after that. I feel sorry for shielding people and vulnerable people I really do.

OP posts:
Hbh17 · 21/02/2022 17:34

Well, all the lockdowns were a waste of time, and we now know that they should never have happened. But at least the Government have finally seen sense, so we do finally have some good news.

Poetrypatty · 21/02/2022 17:36

Going back to normal isn't pretending the virus has gone away or not monitoring it any more though. This is to save Boris Johnson's job.

I want normality as much as everyone else.

Don't feel sorry for me or my nan or my friend on chemo. We are all for it
TheKeatingFive · 21/02/2022 17:36

In fairness, that's just pulling the UK in line with most other countries. I don't think I ever did get confirmation of another country where they were provided for free, but you always had to pay in France, Spain and ROI (the ones I happen to know).

toomuchlaundry · 21/02/2022 17:36

@Hbh17 why were they a waste of time?
