The way the Tory government are acting now makes it feel like all the lockdowns were a waste of time

Just lifting all the restrictions as if it was all a waste of time. It makes me feel like a mug for everything we went through, especially as they were having their parties and not even following the rules. I think it's bad for peoples mental health as well.

children vaccination rates might be important for schools

Not for severity of disease

@VickyEadieofThigh

Free lateral flow test kits are still available - I ordered some 10 minutes ago.
Can now only order a pack every 3 days rather than every day (it changed today).
GirlInACountrySong · 21/02/2022 17:57

@Poetrypatty

If people want to test they can.

They won't be able to any more after what 5 weeks time. So it's just free for all after that. I feel sorry for shielding people and vulnerable people I really do.

Oh come on they have the tools by now to protect themselves!

The economy and work environments need to return back to normal now! We've done our bit and protected nhs....that's all it was ever about

Too many people off isolating feeling perfectly fine... while the rest of us run ourselves ragged trying to cover their work!

Lazypuppy · 21/02/2022 17:58

OP you are contadicting yourself. You will still be able to test but will have to pay £20, same as most other countries. Why should they be free, you want to test, pay for it! It is costing an absolute fortune and cannot continue.

toomuchlaundry · 21/02/2022 18:00

If you have to to do a test to visit someone in a nursing home will everyone saying suck it up and pay for a test be quite so happy if they end up with a relative in a nursing home?

I think nursing homes will ease their testing requirements if there staff are allowed to work whilst covid positive.

GreenClock · 21/02/2022 18:02

It feels risky but it could turn out to be the right course.

Well my nan has just died from covid in a nursing home. So fat lot of good testing before entering was doing anyway.
JustDanceAddict · 21/02/2022 18:06

I hate Boris, but how long do you want restrictions in for? They were really to ease pressure on nhs and deaths are below the average now. We had no vaccinations until a year ago so of course the lockdowns weren’t a ‘waste of time’.

Dh had covid recently, ds and I didn’t catch it from him despite being in v close proximity to him the night before his positive test results watching a film in an unventilated living room!

JustDanceAddict · 21/02/2022 18:07

Lockdowns were terrible for mental health too don’t forget.

Ramalamadingdongs · 21/02/2022 18:09

I'm not paying for tests so i guess no more testing for me then!

FairyCakeWings · 21/02/2022 18:11

The virus is nowhere near as harmful now as it was at the beginning, it’s right that it’s all comes to an end this spring. We needed lockdowns and restrictions then (arguably) but we don’t now.

Duntelchaig · 21/02/2022 18:12

The taxpayer is still paying for tests for the elderly and vulnerable if they’re symptomatic which seems a happy half way to me.

Other than if your job insists on it or if you are protecting someone vulnerable why would you want to test anyway?
Squirrelblanket · 21/02/2022 18:17

I'm delighted that the restrictions are ending. Smile

curlymom · 21/02/2022 18:17

It had to end at some point but the sudden end seems wrong. Why not reduce isolation to three days for a couple months or keep testing until spring. Another political move with no regard for the public.

birdladyfromhomealone · 21/02/2022 18:17

Been super careful.for 2 years and somehow dodged the virus.
Don't ever go shopping as have deliveries.
Wear a mask etc.
Now restrictions are being lifted and I seem to be the only person wearing a mask.
I've terribly painful conjunctivitis for 4 days now that isn't getting any better.
This morning I had a cough .
I'm.positive .
But I'm suppose to carry on as if nothing is wrong with me.
I guess that's how I caught it from someone who didn't self isolate.

I do have a relative in a nursing home and restrictions have given the home an excuse to keep her family from her for inhumane lengths of time, over and over again. And guess what? She still caught Covid.
Cosmois · 21/02/2022 18:18

Thank god! Enough is enough now. Time for life to go back to normal.

Or from someone asymptomatic.

I didn't leave the house for 2 weeks when I caught it. Kids never tested positive and DP only works with 4 people, 2 of whom live together and don't really socialise. He didn't test positive until 5 days after me.

MiddleParking · 21/02/2022 18:20

Much more likely to be from someone who was unknowingly infectious before symptoms. It’s so weird to want to find someone to blame for you catching a virus.

Only in up till the end of March. Then there's no more unless you pay £20 a box Hmm nice little earner for someone

In the USA the tests were $20 each apparently. So a lot of people either couldn't afford it or didn't bother.

A nice little earner for who, exactly? The NHS? The Government? The same place that has provided tests and vaccines for free for two years? About time they tried to claw some of those billions back then.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/02/2022 18:23

I do think people should be supported in not going about spreading COVID if they can help it. But generally speaking we do have to get to the stage where it’s just another illness.
