The way the Tory government are acting now makes it feel like all the lockdowns were a waste of time

Just lifting all the restrictions as if it was all a waste of time. It makes me feel like a mug for everything we went through, especially as they were having their parties and not even following the rules. I think it's bad for peoples mental health as well.

They don’t stop being anxious because they do get free tests either though

Actually I think they do (not that either of us could possibly provide more than anecdotal evidence) albeit briefly. I’m pretty sure a single LFT costs much less than a GP consultation.

In the absence of stable data providing us with the knowledge of what will count as ‘normal’ disease spread its completely illogical to expect people to be convinced by platitudes alongside the continued expert advice (which incidentally can’t be followed without testing) which hasn’t changed along with government policy.

eastegg · 22/02/2022 13:20

@Poetrypatty

Free lateral flow test kits are still available - I ordered some 10 minutes ago.

Only in up till the end of March. Then there's no more unless you pay £20 a box Hmm nice little earner for someone

And I just tried, and surprise surprise they’re aren’t any at the moment.
eastegg · 22/02/2022 13:21

*there aren’t

hangrylady · 22/02/2022 13:29

@GirlInACountrySong

Restrictions were only ever intended to reduce pressure on NHS

We've done that

Exactly this.
hangrylady · 22/02/2022 13:44

"But everyone who's caught it has an increased charge of heart attack - did you know? 78% higher risk".
Where's your source for this nugget of wisdom? Let me guess, your mate Shazza posted it on Facebook?

Lubeyboobyalt · 22/02/2022 13:46

the lockdowns did a great job while everyone was not vaccinated

without them it would have been devastating

now we're all triple vaxed (well, mostly) they are not needed

I’m with you on the % for the general population but it’s been well know since the early days covid increases risk of heart attacks, clots (PE and DVT), diabetes and kidney failure/injury following active infection. I don’t believe that has been proven to have changed much with omicron.

now we're all triple vaxed (well, mostly) they are not needed

Unless I’ve missed it, I haven’t seen anyone arguing for lockdowns in the here and now? I largely agree with you that vaccines have filled the gap where lockdowns rose to be a consideration.

LyricalBlowToTheJaw · 22/02/2022 14:08

Indy Sage were advocating lockdown due to Omicron just before Christmas, and have yet to say anything to suggest they'd have been arguing for it to be over now. I'd agree with you though that's a pretty minority position at this point.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 22/02/2022 17:01

I wish people who spend so long arguing for continued restrictions and mask-wearing would put as much effort into protesting about the pitiful rates of SSP, and the 3 days of no pay that goes before it.

It doesn't matter whether its covid, flu, norovirus or any other nasty bug; people having to go to work with them because they have no sick pay, and spread the illness to others, costs a lot more down the line in lost productivity when all of your colleagues are down with it, or stuck at home looking after their ill kids.

I googled it when it was posted and there’s one very obscure American study that found that stat. I’m not convinced either.
Brefugee · 23/02/2022 07:19

as i mentioned upthread - that statistic (even if it weren't dodgy) is meaningless unless you know, for your demographic etc, what the actual risk of a heart attack is.

Without knowing that figure, saying things like "78% increased risk" is dangerously misleading.

Absolutely agree.

I think people don't realise that for many they just can't afford to lose 3 days pay.

IcedPurple · 23/02/2022 19:43

I want normality as much as everyone else.

Are you sure?

Alexandra2001 · 23/02/2022 19:53

I want more Lockdowns as the alternative seems to be the Govt coming out with things like "Lets go back to Imperial measurements" which surely out guns Majors' "Cones Hotline"

At least when we had Covid, no one was putting 50p in the Governments Ideas machine.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 23/02/2022 20:18

We got free testing in France if we were pinged.

meh. People can and do, do both things
