The way the Tory government are acting now makes it feel like all the lockdowns were a waste of time

Just lifting all the restrictions as if it was all a waste of time. It makes me feel like a mug for everything we went through, especially as they were having their parties and not even following the rules. I think it's bad for peoples mental health as well.

OP posts:

'A moment of pride for our nation' the absolutely shameless bastard! Johnson has bugger all to be proud of.

The alternative is?
toomuchlaundry · 21/02/2022 19:11

Didn’t Sweden have more deaths than the other Nordic countries which did have lockdown.

@Bollindger this has been discussed many times, many people have underlying health conditions which weren’t an instant death sentence but add in COVID and unfortunately they died

SweetPeaGirl · 21/02/2022 19:11

Clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) people have been offered a 4th vaccine, and I would imagine others will be too at some point. Maybe like an annual flu vacc.

That's the key for me. We now have a milder variant and a protected population. The testing and self isolation rules are changing when the NHS is well past winter pressures, so no concerns there.

I just don't see a need to continue stressing out over it (and I say that as a CEV person). I'm glad the rrestrictions are being scrapped, and I'm glad I'll no longer be footing the bill as a taxpayer for people who feel the need to do LFTs daily and sometimes multiple times daily.

Wherearemymarbles · 21/02/2022 19:13

To honest I totally agree with the proposals.
We cant hide forever and of not now we’ll be having lock downs a decade down the line

toomuchlaundry · 21/02/2022 19:14

Useful slides on press conference to show impact of COVID on deaths

DearlyBeloathed · 21/02/2022 19:15

@labyrinthlaziness

The removal of testing and the complete removal of all isolation are happening too early.

Johnson is doing this because of his own political situation.

We all know he does not give a shit about anyone but himself. Not even his own kids, so hardly surprisinghe doesn't care about our health.

The thing that is making me Angry is he is wanging on about anti-virals, but to access anti-virals you need an early test. Which he is scrapping. The lying toad.

When should restrictions be lifted then?
labyrinthlaziness · 21/02/2022 19:15

We cant hide forever [bsicuit] for missing the point entirely and just trotting out this bullshit phrase.

No one wants to fucking hide, just to have a test when you think you may have covid so you can a) not spread it to vulnerable friends/relatives and b) get these anti-virals that Johnson is lying about.

labyrinthlaziness · 21/02/2022 19:16

I misspelled the Biscuit

DearlyBeloathed · 21/02/2022 19:16

just to have a test when you think you may have covid

You still can have a test.

Christienne · 21/02/2022 19:17

@AnyFucker

Why?

Short memory+ rewriting history.

Was that aimed at me, @AnyFucker?

Biscuit they will be expensive
labyrinthlaziness · 21/02/2022 19:20

I have really bad rage, I think it is hard to trust that lying bastard whatever he says, I think I am just livid the partying arsehole is still PM.

I can barely listen to him Angry

It is probably clouding my judgement somewhat.

But I am very worried about scrapping testing and making people pay - as those who can;t afford it will again suffer the worst health.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 21/02/2022 19:20

I'm sick of hearing people using "the vulnerable" as an excuse instead of saying they're personally struggling to adjust. The vulnerable have been vaccinated 3 times and will get a 4th, all for free, so we can get out from under these restrictions.

You realise the vulnerable are also killed by other viruses, right? My mum going through chemo many years ago was advised to stay in and shield by her doctor, because even a cold, chest infection or chickenpox could have made her extremely ill or killed her. I didn't see anyone willing to wreck the economy or providing shielding support for mum, or giving her extra vaccines for these things - we had to work around it and bring everything to her at home, dad had to stay home whenever someone in his workplace was ill, etc. It's the health condition that causes the vulnerability that's the problem now, not covid.

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 21/02/2022 19:20

@WindyState

It's the Tories saying that it's now down to personal responsibility, but by removing free tests and support for isolation they take that choice away from many people who will have to go into work knowing they may have covid but without that safety net.

So the tories being tories, basically. Cunts.

Yup.
DearlyBeloathed · 21/02/2022 19:21

@Lazypuppy

OP you are contadicting yourself. You will still be able to test but will have to pay £20, same as most other countries. Why should they be free, you want to test, pay for it! It is costing an absolute fortune and cannot continue.
Yup.

They've been free for nearly two years now, which is more than countries such as America have ever done.

Dibbydoos · 21/02/2022 19:22

I agree everyone is saying its too early WHO etc see how the medics are no longer involved; that's the test for me. This egotistical Boris at his worst. No one isolates, and no one gives an F. Just keep vaccinated the old and those with underlying health conditions. But everyone who's caught it has an increased charge of heart attack - did you know? 78% higher risk. We are a country of people who don't care, a large selfish undercurrent in our society. Look at how many on this pole think you're unreasonable, OP. Go figure.... i mean, no masks are the norm now. Things are all open. So what's wrong with not spreading this disease and staying home if you're ill?? I don't get it.

The blood clot, stroke risk after Omicron is a worry too.
MarshaBradyo · 21/02/2022 19:24

Whitty and Vallance on now if you want more science based explanation

Jellykat · 21/02/2022 19:25

I disagree with ending ALL restrictions a month early.

Covid cases are still high, you think all those cases are still bouncing around with a mild cold?

SAGE has said its too premature, and not based on Science, plus question reinfections and saying the time is right for another worldwide mutated strain.

Other countries around the world are not ending all restrictions, why are we?? What makes us so different other then the politics?

I think ending SOME restrictions is fine, but all at once? nope..
I'm just relieved im in Wales and Drakeford is more cautious, listening to the actual experts on how to proceed.

Blossomtoes · 21/02/2022 19:26

But everyone who's caught it has an increased charge of heart attack - did you know? 78% higher risk

Do you have anything to support that? Because I’m pretty sure it would be headline news if true.

labyrinthlaziness · 21/02/2022 19:26

Always good to hear Whitty and Valance, both pointing out that next winter could be shite Sad

Nidan2Sandan · 21/02/2022 19:27

Free tests were never a thing, it was just that they were free at point of use. Our children will be paying the bill for this testing and maybe even our grandchildren.

Now they are going to be charged at the point of use, a much better system!!

If you listen to CMO he explains why it’s not sudden but steady
QueenOfHiraeth · 21/02/2022 19:28

I think testing has been ridiculous here because, like the NHS, people see it as free when in reality somebody has to pay, just not at the point of delivery.
I know people who are retired and don't need to go anywhere who have been testing more than the twice a week required for key workers.

I'm a little anxious about lifting everything so quickly but agree that we have to start to move on
