What!!! spraying protesters including women and childrem with water outside parliament Classing all protestors as loony anti vaxers.no sign of liftimg restrictions ' quite the opposite. Polls plummeting. She is completely nightmarish tho 53 deaths is amazing. Nz is now so woke no one with any brain or indepent thought will go there to holiday / work. She is on a power trip to end all. Poor kiwis

My friend lives in Auckland and is very unhappy at the way things are at the moment. Happy that there has not been many deaths but unhappy
at the constant lock downs. A lot of people she knows are worried about the economy and people’s mental health.

It’s funny (or not so funny) how billionaires who’ve benefited from culture warriors punching down whilst they trouser all the money and create increased inequality are buying NZ passports.

Just before reading this bizarre post I was reading a story about the new Tory Chairman, Oliver Dowdon, flying out to America to give a speech on how Cancel culture and ‘woke’ are the biggest things causing problems for people in the West. I thought rising inequality, not being able to afford to put the heating on, inflation and climate change were a bigger deal but I guess screaming ‘woke’ and rallying the culture warriors is easier than solving real problems for everyday people.

Except the kind of people the PP is describing were proud of the term and uses it entirely unironically - until it was called out and ridiculed.

You can say it doesn't exist all you want, people know exactly what it is when they see it and mock it.

It wasn’t Jacinda’s decision re: the water. She had nothing to do with it. It was the decision of The Speaker of the House. The water wasn’t sprayed around everywhere - it came from soakers so it went straight into the ground - NOT sprayed on people.

The protestors are a divided group of people with different agendas so a bit hard to have cohesive discussions with them. Some have been abusive and aggressive, such as spitting and throwing eggs, towards people just minding their business. The protesters can of course, go home and their children can go back to school where they should be at the moment.
We are NOT in lockdown.

As for the woke comment not even sure what you are on about.

If I were to try to define it then I'd say that it would be something close to (but not exactly) the Chinese term "Baizuo":

"Baizuo" is a popular political epithet commonly used on the Chinese Internet. The literal translation is "white left" which refers to western white liberal leftists. According to Chinese political scientist Chenchen Zhang, the word "Baizuo" refers to those who "only care about topics such as immigration, minorities, LGBT rights and the environment", but lack a concept of "real problems in the real world". Unfortunately there are some politicians out there that are trying to make a name for themselves because quite frankly they have nothing much else to offer that would get them an statesman/woman status. So Covid restrictions seems to be the easiest way to say ‘oh look at me, aren’t I so powerful because I can lock you down’.

@Yeahthat - can you please give me the definition of the word ‘woke’. I originally heard it years ago when if was a US term used to describe when people were aware of racial injustice. But in more recent times I’ve since heard it used in multiple contexts to the point I suspect it’s just a meaningless collection of letters certain people just yell because they heard someone else say it. It’s like people thought ‘PC gone mad!’ was too 90s then ‘Snowflake’ was too early noughts so this is the new one.

I'd say it's used to describe people who follow an intolerant, performative, moralising ideology, which is usually incompatible with the complexity of the real world and often hypocritical.

Alternatively, just go on twitter or attempt to have a discussion about transgenderism with anyone from Gen Z.
