Yes I am, some of those let through simply hunkered down and rode out the majority of the pandemic here after borders closed, no economic incentive for NZ at all ( three very wealthy families arrived and live very near me in a pleasant tourist/holiday hotspot).
Are you saying that you are aware of non-NZ citizens bringing no economic incentive to NZ who were permitted to enter NZ for no valid reason and just hunker down for a holiday? You should take that one straight to the papers, they'll be all over it.
Some who were let in to headline events, erm it’s a pandemic, are mass gatherings a brilliant idea? Allowing in cricket teams, really… it’s sport …
Seems like some people won't allow the government to have 'gotten it right' no matter what they did. NZers widely rejoiced in the fact that MIQ allowed us to live mostly normally (including mass gatherings) for two years while the rest of the world was going through enormous disruption and death, but now all of a sudden it was irresponsible for the government to make the most of the fact that MIQ was allowing us mass gatherings – not one of which to my knowledge resulted in an outbreak?
respected medical personnel were denied places in MIQ…. But film crews, entertainment industry personnel took precedence…
Not sure who you are referring to here but again I'm going to suggest that no matter how respected a doctor is, probably not one of them was going to help bring $30m into the NZ economy with them. Film and sport are two significant New Zealand money-earners, of course the government gave some precedence to sustaining these industries over regular citizens who like another poster in this thread are put out that they couldn't pop back to NZ for a visit more than once during the last two years.
it was wrong from start to finish and yes making films in a pandemic is irresponsible if it means foreign film crews and stars are shipped in as an exception.
This is just ludicrous denialism, there was nothing irresponsible about continuing economic activities during a time when Covid was actually eliminated from the community for months on end. If bringing in a handful of foreign film stars allowed hundreds of New Zealand workers to sustain their incomes for months during a time when economies around the world were being impacted and many foreign film productions were at a standstill, then it was an absolute no-brainer.
It’s far more complex and hypocritical than you are suggesting and can we drop the ‘ Do you understand’ rather patronising imo
I think it's actually far more complex that you are acknowledging or patronisation alert appear to understand. You seem to want it to be as simple as 'Doctors and NZers good, foreign entertainers and sports teams bad' but right throughout the government has had to balance the scales of health and economy and that means making exceptions that deliver a significant net benefit to the people they are serving rather than sticking to bureaucratic 'Computer says no' black and white rules.
