Abit outing but nevermind
I've been bidding for a property thur council for nearly 8years. I'm sharing a room with 2 children(6 &8) eldest(14) has own room.
I'm currently 2nd on 3 properties never ever been so close.
Aibu- to actually stand a chance I can't sleep with thinking!
Ainbu- not 1st probably won't happen.

Where are you currently living? Sounds very stressful.

Susu49 · 12/02/2022 20:55

For 8 years??

I have everything crossed for you! 🤞🤞

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 12/02/2022 20:56

You have a chance I think!
A friend of mine was in a similar situation and the 1st bidder refused the house for some unknown reason.

Goodluck to you!

Donut22 · 12/02/2022 20:56

Small 2 bed flat. Share a room with 2 of my children. Really got my hopes up gunna be heartbroken if it doesn't happen.

Yes 8long years and not in london either where times are so much longer. What makes it worse is I read on the council site about who has won the previous houses for the last 2 years and people who are in the same band has me joined the list and was housed from anywhere between 3weeks and 4years! I brought this up with council and I'm suddenly 2nd on 3 properties! Ends Tuesday and I can't wait 😔

I think I was about no. 6 on my house that I finally secured. The others all were unsuitable or turned it down.

Good luck OP

MamaRaisingBoys · 12/02/2022 21:00

The person who’s first is probably first on all 3, so I’d say you have a very very good chance! It’s unlikely to be 3 separate people bidding on one property each

Mumofsend · 12/02/2022 21:01

The 3 bed house we got I was originally third for.

Took a while to get the call though, the two above had accepted elsewhere but theirs had to be authorised before it could be released to me.

Good luck

I work in council housing. Properties can get offered to place as low as 5 or 6. It’s not unknown. People refuse more often than you’d ever believe, or get overlooked for various reasons. Eg they come 1st on another bid or they’re in arrears so offer withdrawn. Good luck to you

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 12/02/2022 21:35

Good luck op

Could you help me understand the way it Is done, I know its different in different areas but like i mentioned I saw the successful bidders list for the past 2 years, someone joined the list in the same band has me and had a house after 3 weeks!! The council said it could of been a numerous reasons like homelessness etc but surely that is what the band 1 is for? (I am band 2)

Mumofsend · 12/02/2022 21:48

@Donut22 in our LA even within the same bands there can be differing priority. Ie silver band medical is higher priority than silver band overcrowding.

Ground floor properties always go first to those who specifically require ground floor. Likewise with adapted.

Those with gardens are prioritised to those with under 10s than those without.

Some HAs specify working or existing tenants with their HA so a transfer as priorities.

So there is still a pecking order within the same bandings.

We were gold medical so moved within a month whereas other gold had been waiting a year+.

RedCandyApple · 12/02/2022 21:55

I was in a one bed flat with my children on the 3rd floor with no lift I was second for a house with a garden and knew I wasn’t going to get it but they turned it down and I did! Been here 7 years now, I was convinced they would take it couldn’t believe they turned it down.

Jagley · 12/02/2022 22:25

You have a really good chance I think, like someone said there may be rhe same person in 1st for all the properties so you'd get one. I was second for the house I'm in now and I desperately wanted it as it had an adaptation we needed. A week after it finished I was offered the property as the 1st people hadn't given their paperwork in time. Good luck!

HerRoyalHappiness · 12/02/2022 22:30

You've got a really good chance. I was 6th on the list for my house but everyone else rejected it. I've now been here 12 years and love my community

SpookyHalloween · 12/02/2022 22:32

I think your chances are very high! I was number one on a property and ended up turning it down in the end as they had taken all the flooring up and I couldn't afford the £1k+ to get flooring. It was incredibly stressful and they haven't let me be eligible for any properties since which is a shame.

Good luck!

Thats standard practice they don’t usually leave the flooring in properties. They don’t in my area it’s bare floors only.
Donut22 · 12/02/2022 22:55

Ahh I don't wanna get my hopes up but I'm hoping so bad! Tuesday seems so far away 😅

Did they not explain to you that is exactly what they do? They always have all flooring taken up. I'm not surprised they've stopped you bidding if that is an issue as it will be the same for every property.
girlmom21 · 13/02/2022 09:12

8 years ago you wouldn't have been a priority because they littlest ones were so small. You will be now. Good luck!
