I've been bidding for a property thur council for nearly 8years. I'm sharing a room with 2 children(6 &8) eldest(14) has own room.
I'm currently 2nd on 3 properties never ever been so close.
Aibu- to actually stand a chance I can't sleep with thinking!

Congratulations Donut22 just read through the full thread and delighted to see you got your house. The very best of luck with the move Flowers

LittleBear21 · 18/03/2022 20:48

Oh wow! Many congratulations and all the best for your new home.

I agree with the advice of decluttering as you pack. It will build back up! Also the packing tips re box of kitchen essentials & clothes essentials; make this latter one more than one days worth if possible to give yourswlf breathing space.

Label all the boxes and put them in the correct room on day one. It saves multiple moves and splits the work up.

Have a box of cleaning products packed separately and clearly labelled.

Tackle unpacking one room at a time. Try and do the kids bedroom first so they have a space that's not under your feet !

And be kind to yourself! Moving is supremely stressful. You don't have to do it all in a day. But when it's done it's your home long term. 😊

Readyforspring · 18/03/2022 20:56

I've never been so happy for a stranger.
I remember bidding to get out of a hell hole place the feeling when I did was amazing. I was actually 1st for all 3. They let me choose which one. It was in a new build area all in same street. Loved it there until we outgrew it. Now privately rent as couldn't deal with the bidding malarkey again

laalaaland · 18/03/2022 21:10

OH MY GOD! I'm so happy for you. I really shouldn't get so invested in strangers lives! But wow, really needed some positivity and this is it! So so happy for you! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Just found this thread and caught up with the whole lot in one go. So thrilled for a fantastic result. If it's not too outing, where roughly is the new house - as in, do you know the area well? So glad you have somewhere to put down proper happy roots!!

Re flooring, you can sometimes get very good bargains when people move into houses and just don't want the fitted carpets that were put down by eg developers in new builds. Definitely worth going on your local next door app and keeping an eye on the small ads and classifieds.

lollipoprainbow · 19/03/2022 08:50

So so happy for you, you sounded like me in your posts nothing ever going right !! There's hope for me yet ! Thanks

RelentlessForwardProgress · 19/03/2022 09:04

Absolutely thrilled for you OP, well done Flowers

@LittleBear21 gave you great tips above, I would add, if possible, get some extra strong bin bags and on moving day roll the kids pillow, duvets, sheets and teddies into a double lined bin bag, label for each child and then you can simply throw them on the beds as soon as they are in each room and then in the evening it is very quick to just remake their bed in a way that makes it a bit cosy for them.

Maray1967 · 19/03/2022 09:27

So pleased for you, OP - great news.
Have a good declutter, especially of the kids stuff. Go through clothes and get rid of any outgrown. Same with toys.
As PP have said, organise your packing so you have the essentials to hand. Most of the unpacking can wait until the next day or later but you need beds made and cooking and serving essentials and towels & toiletries to hand. I’d also add change of undies, socks and t shirts for everyone so you don’t have to unpack all the clothes straightaway.
Wishing all the best in your new home.

babytum · 19/03/2022 13:57

That’s just fantastic news! Delighted for you

It's half a mile if that from me now it's perfect! It's a new build to which includes flooring! I'm still amazed It's all worked out better than I ever couldve hoped. It's available from the 6th of April so will work out well for me with timings with work and no school runs! Couldn't be happier and blessed!
