Donut22 · 24/02/2022 14:48

Little update its all waiting on an affordable assessment now won't know till its complete. Got a horrible feeling they are going to say I "can't afford it" I do get universal credit and do work but it's just my low income coming in arrrggghhh

tensmum1964 · 24/02/2022 15:56

Affordability? That's odd. I thought it was Social Housing. Are you in the UK?

Yes in the UK, I'm not in London about 30miles out. Apparently it's what they do but who knows. It's silly they should do this 1st before even shortlisting someone Envy

Donut22 · 24/02/2022 16:08

They are spose to be "affordable" but the rent will be 950 a month. Which is the same for the area so I don't know what I am spose to do pray to God I pass 🙏

OP posts:
tensmum1964 · 24/02/2022 17:05

That honestly doesn't make sense. Maybe they are checking your eligibility for housing benefit to be sure that the rent will be paid. In that case a low income is probably to your advantage.

PinkiOcelot · 24/02/2022 17:25

Good luck x

Donut22 · 24/02/2022 18:15

Well she said I didn't pass!! so asked her to recheck and can I see the affordBilty form which is all wrong! I'm fuming there's at least 6things in the form that are crazy wrong. Guessing she's finished work and I'm left in a worldwin of emotions waiting on her to double check!! I can't cope 😫

Sorry OP, this must be so disheartening. I still don't get it. Is it Social Housing or private? I wonder if somewhere like shelter could help you and challenge the decision.
Donut22 · 24/02/2022 18:43

I am I swear I've never been so anxious in my life. I go from there's still hope to devastated. I just don't know what else to do. I've been bidding for a long time I can't move from area the 1st house I've been shortlisted on and she say this. I work part time I'm a single parent trying to bring children up on my own and still not good enough!

It's social housing

Takingaleap · 24/02/2022 20:04

Yes they do affordability check. So they won't give you a property they don't think you can afford. If you dont already receive housing benefit of UC, you should apply for it. It counts towards your affordability.

I do claim housing benefit already which would've paid at least half of the rent. I'm so so sad tonight I try my best at life and nothing goes right for me. I can't remember the last time I cried and I can't stop tonight. No one 2 talk to or confide in hurts even more.

Call Citizens advice.

Somebodylikeyew · 24/02/2022 21:51

I’m so sorry. It shouldn’t be this hard.
Hang in there. Beg her to help you in the morning x

Takingaleap · 24/02/2022 21:52

I'm so sorry OP. I can understand how you feel. Can you ring them tomorrow to get a breakdown on how they worked out your affordability? If this one doesn't work out maybe before you bid next time you can calculate it yourself. Is your current rent more than than the rent the council housing is going for?

CeleriacOfTheNight · 24/02/2022 21:55

Hoping that the double check changes things for you Flowers

BlondeWidow · 24/02/2022 22:33

@SpookyHalloween

I think your chances are very high! I was number one on a property and ended up turning it down in the end as they had taken all the flooring up and I couldn't afford the £1k+ to get flooring. It was incredibly stressful and they haven't let me be eligible for any properties since which is a shame.

Good luck!

ALL social housing comes without flooring unfortunately. Health & safety apparently. Even if previous tenant left after putting brand new carpet in throughout - it gets ripped up. So whichever property you get, you'll need all new flooring in ever room.

Sounds like you've been removed from the waiting list altogether. That does often happen if you turn somewhere down

MockneyReject · 24/02/2022 22:40

Gutted for you, OP.

How much over the LHA is the rent?
lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/

Mine is £100 p/m over, and I passed the affordability test.
I earn just over minimum wage, so also get a U/C top up. I average 30 hours. I have one child.

I'm just thinking that if you have all this information, the figures, you might be able to challenge the reason given for not passing the check. Or be able to show how you do meet the criteria.

laalaaland · 24/02/2022 22:48

Oh no, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's rooting for you! It's not over yet, like you said, there are mistakes on the form. Don't give up!

It's not over LHR, that's why I don't get what she is saying 😢she sent me the form she filled in and thier was 6 things on the list completely wrong! Plus she didn't add child maintenance...
OP posts:
Donut22 · 24/02/2022 22:54

From what I understand from what she sent, I'm -20 a week down with new house.... that's with 6 incorrect answers and missing child maintenance off completely tho. Surely she has to change it!
