If its anything like my council you stand a good chance, but doesn't mean you will be moving straight away. I bid on a property in march and was second, didn't hear anything until the June. Because my council list a house as soon as its empty, get all the interested bids in. Do what ever work needs doing on the house, then they filter the list, so chances are 1st place may already of been housed by the time its available to move into. Good luck op.

Someone said upthread that flooring is removed when someone leaves a property…

Is this true,and why??

I think it all depends on what condition it's in. My dm died and the HA inspected the place - the carpets were all fine so they were left for the next tenant. My GM's on the other hand were grim so they had to be removed before handing keys over.
Name99 · 15/02/2022 08:11

I always presumed its incase carpeting has bed bugs or fleas?

Somebodylikeyew · 15/02/2022 08:13

I thought it was because if it's left in there then people might complain about it being worn out or dirty or whatever to the council. They would be responsible for maintenance on it if it was on there.

Perrymenopausal · 15/02/2022 08:27

Keeping fingers crossed OP.

Bran21 · 15/02/2022 08:28

I was 4th . Then 3 weeks later told I got property, the other people either turned it down or changed their minds. Loads of other people I know finished second or third. Your getting close just hang on in there, you'll get the right one.

Staryflight445 · 15/02/2022 08:34

Hope you get great news today op! x

diddl · 15/02/2022 08:54

Fingers crossed for you Op.

I know if there's no property available then there isn't or if others are more in need, but 8yrs!

MadeForThis · 15/02/2022 08:55

Good luck

lavender2022 · 15/02/2022 08:56

Oh I remember this feeling like it was yesterday! Yes, you definitely have a chance if the 1st person refuses the property. Which I appreciate is unlikely but it does happen. Something that I recall which I'd like to share with you as I didn't know this until I called up housing and they explained it to me. Basically, just because you are in, say, Group 1 for example, doesn't mean you can't bid for properties where Group 4, for example, get first refusal. All it means is that - literally, anyone from Group 4 will get first refusal. But if you so happen to bid on a property where nobody from Group 4 has actually bid (and Group 1 get second refusal), then you will be first on the list for that property. That's what happened to me. I spent 4 years bidding on properties that were only for my Group. The very week that I bid on a property that my Group had second refusal, I actually got it. Best of luck, OP! Let us know if you got it x
