(9) Or John Major. He only has O levels and shagged Edwina Currie.

Blossomtoes · 12/02/2022 12:21

According to Camilla Tominey this morning Major squandered Thatcher’s majority in 1992. The fact that he persuaded more than a million more people to vote for him than voted Tory in 1987 has completely escaped her. Good thing some of us can count.

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2022 12:21

(10) Keir had a beer too

SueSaid · 12/02/2022 12:23

@ClaudineClare

(8) Imagine if Corbyn was dealing with Ukraine.
I know! With hapless sidekick Diane Abbott. It doesn't bear thinking about does it. I saw a clip of Di saying 'its all the West's fault for provoking Russia' (paraphrasing but that was the gist) I mean seriously. Those 2 would have us calling each other comrade in no time.
AuldAlliance · 12/02/2022 12:46

Or Chamberlain...

Emily Thornberry was shadow FS, considerably better than Truss.

Even tory diehards could only muster polite applause!

But of course the UK is a bit player since Brexit, this will be negotiated by the USA/Germany/France/EU

llanfairpg3 · 12/02/2022 12:49

@AuldAlliance I disagree with you about Chamberlain, but agree with others about Corbyn regarding Ukraine.

As for the Prime Minister, regardless of how much he is fined for the 'events' in Downing Street, I think he will be in office at least until the May elections.

AuldAlliance · 12/02/2022 12:50

My point was about relevance, not competence.

Yep, that is the sort of rubbish the pro-Bozo lot come out with, thanks for proving my point.😘

Those 2 would have us calling each other comrade in no time.

Are you a secret and subtle satirist? Hard to tell around here at times.

Notonthestairs · 12/02/2022 12:53

"I was in meeting after meeting with the PM when he went row by row through what was and was not to be allowed. What does it say about us as a Party if what we write in law in minute detail is just for 'others' and by slight of hand we try and make that a 'trivial' thing?"
Nikki da Costa on Twitter.

That answers Theresa May's question - he knew the legislation and decided it didn't apply to him.

Wow, I thought Nikki da Costa was one of his fan girls.

I found the satire in that post most entertaining, it was of a very high level.

She is, she is demonstrating how hard working and on top of everything Boris is. Some say he is lazy, but it is quite clearly untrue, someone who works that hard really deserves birthday cake.

She clearly didn’t read that tweet before she hit the post button, did she? 😂

"The only reason for Sue Grey not to publish her report was to rule out the possibility of collaboration before the questioning.

Since now this is allowed (everyone has 7 days to align their versions), can we please see the full report?

What do you think @BarristerSecret?"

Jakob Konecki on Twitter.

7 days to compare notes. Honestly ridiculous.

the Foreign Minister is meant to be shit hot on foreign affairs

How did David Milliband get on with Sergei Lavrov in 2008?

David Miliband was subjected to an astonishing four-letter tirade from his Russian counterpart at the height of the Georgia crisis.

The Foreign Secretary received the undiplomatic tongue-lashing over the telephone after expressing the EU's anger with the Kremlin, it was revealed yesterday.

At one point Sergei Lavrov, the colourful Russian foreign minister, became so incensed that he reportedly barked: 'Who the f* are you to lecture me?'

Mr Lavrov, who is seen as the fearsome face of Russia's new aggressive foreign policy, objected to what he believed was Mr Miliband's condescending tone.

He used full-strength industrial language to suggest to the Foreign Secretary that he knew little, if anything, of Russia's history - perhaps unaware that Mr Miliband's grandfather Samuel served in the Red Army and his father Ralph was a leading Marxist theoretician.

Yesterday -

MOSCOW – Russia’s foreign ministry on Friday dismissed a joint response by NATO and the European Union to its questions on security as disrespectful and lacking substance.

The ministry said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had asked all member nations of the two blocs about their understanding of the principle of “indivisible security”, expecting an individual response from each country.

Instead he had received replies from the head of NATO and the EU foreign policy chief, to whom Lavrov had not addressed the request.

“Such a step cannot be seen as anything other than a sign of diplomatic impoliteness and disrespect for our request,” the ministry said.

Thank you for your post, demonstrating how a well briefed and competent Foreign Secretary can get under the skin of Lavrov rather than being a laughing stock like Truss.

Nice to see NATO and the EU working in step to address the present crisis.

Thank you for sharing that with us, it is clear that the Russians didn't like that, rather different from the visit of the UK foreign secretary which seems to have provided some gentle amusement in Moscow.

Dear Lord, Clav. That really is 🐬 jumping. A spat about tone of voice from nearly 14 years ago is in no way comparable to Truss' abysmal and rude performance.

cakeorwine · 12/02/2022 13:58

I don't think @Clavinova comment was relevant to a Foreign Secretaries understanding of Foreign affairs.

All that effort on cutting and pasting wasted.

Clavinova · 12/02/2022 14:00

According to Camilla Tominey this morning

Camilla Tominey in the Telegraph today;

Remain's useful idiots can't stop talking Britain down.

When the Foreign Secretary was insulted by her Russian counterpart, elite Remainers took the side of Moscow.

I think you are misunderstanding Clav's contribution.
They are pointing out what a well briefed intelligent and knowledgeable Foreign Secretary can do in a crisis with Russia, by way of contrast with Truss.
