Ouch from Wallace

cakeorwine · 13/02/2022 12:13

@Blossomtoes

I am surprised he even mentions that he was cancelling it.

He’s making a point I suspect. As far as I can make out Wallace is a bit old school. Thankfully there are a few left.

Being a bit passive aggressive towards Raab?

The subtext:

Look, I was going on holiday but I cancelled it because stuff's going on. Unlike some other people I could mention. Mentioning no names.

Blossomtoes · 13/02/2022 12:17

That’s my take @cakeorwine. He may have leadership aspirations and be setting his stall out in advance - “Look I’m fundamentally decent (unlike the rest)”.

DePfeffoff · 13/02/2022 12:18

Asking someone to substantiate a claim is perfectly normal. Sadly, when they cannot do so they rarely have the courage to admit that they just made up the claim, even when that is obvious.

Your problem there, @BoodyDedalus, is that the rest of us who were on the relevant threads know that the "claim" was perfectly correct. So you can shout as much as you like that it wasn't, it won't make your claim true. And no, I'm not going to spoon-feed you with information which you have been told how to find.

BoodyDedalus · 13/02/2022 12:19

Have you got a link for that?

But in fairness, the stats are a bit old. The present lot may have fewer criminal tendencies.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

UnconditionalSurrender · 13/02/2022 12:22

Bloody hell. The old thread gets Nadine Dorriesed and we are on 500 posts by the time I find you all. Might take me a while to catch up.

BoodyDedalus · 13/02/2022 12:24

@Blossomtoes

Cash for peerages goes back to at least the premiership of Lloyd George.

Oh that’s all right then. Because we’ve always had corruption it doesn’t matter.

Why on earth would you think that? The point, which you seem to have missed, is that thinking in the 1990s that cash for honours could not happen here is ignoring (or not being aware of) the fact that it has been going on here for at least a century.
DuncinToffee · 13/02/2022 12:24

A new twist Wink

On Friday, @GBNEWS hosted Jennifer Acuri, Boris Johnson's ex-girlfriend, who said that Johnson might have been replaced with a doppelganger while in hospital for Covid and spewed antivax conspiracy theories. The host gave only the gentlest of pushbacks.

Oh dear.

Did you read the report?

More recently, the MPs expenses scandal saw a large number of politicians jailed; in the aftermath of the scandal four MPs and two peers were sent to prison for fiddling expenses, leading to the startling statistic that in 2011, while 0.13 per cent of the general population was in jail, a shocking 0.61 per cent of House of Commons members were in prison

So:

  1. It's time behind bars, not criminal convictions. There is a difference
  2. It's 4 MPs. So you are bringing in the Law of Small Numbers *

econowmics.com/the-law-of-small-numbers/

*Not a real law

DePfeffoff · 13/02/2022 12:29

What I have said, repeatedly sorry some can't grasp it, is a cake in an office isn't a party

Unsurprisingly, @JaniieJones, you have once again omitted the information that what you have been told, repeatedly, is that it is utterly irrelevant whether it was a party;' the issue is whether it was a gathering, and whether it was essential for work. The answers to which are obvious.

cakeorwine · 13/02/2022 12:31

It cannot be found because it does not exist

If you haven't looked for it yourself, then you do not know it does not exist.

Go forth and seek. And ye shall find.

cakeorwine · 13/02/2022 12:34

I have actually forgotten what @BoodyDedalus doesn't think exists.

And I can't really be bothered searching back this thread.

Do they know what doesn't exist and is fake news?

Blossomtoes · 13/02/2022 12:36

It doesn’t matter what it is. It’s just the classic derailment that’s been n these threads from the beginning and we keep taking the bait.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 13/02/2022 12:37

Who cares what Boody thinks or doesn't think exists?
His/her aim is clearly to astroturf the thread with irrelevant argument

Had to laugh at the "but Lloyd George" whataboutery though! haha!

I read those threads and took part. So I know what was said.

Have you read those threads? If not, do us all a favour and go and read them. Then contribute something useful to the thread.

DuncinToffee · 13/02/2022 12:40

You have not missed too much Lots of deflecting and rehashing by the pro-Johnson camp as per usual.
DePfeffoff · 13/02/2022 12:42

It cannot be found because it does not exist. What is the point on prolonging this matter when nobody has provided evidence for the claim? Just saying that you "know" something must be true, but cannot provide evidence for your belief, sounds like a Johnsonism.

Oh, brilliant. We have now reached peak illogic. You haven't found something, because you couldn't be bothered to look, so it doesn't exist. That would be like DH telling me he bought a book which he now can't find; I can't be bothered to look for it, therefore the book doesn't exist and has never existed. Even though he knows it does exist.

I didn't say I knew something "must be true". I said that I knew that it was true. There's an important difference.

You'd think it would go without saying that Ben Wallace would cancel a weekend away...so yes perhaps it was a bit of a dig at Raab?

The govt's claim to be central to diplomacy wrt Russia/Ukraine is laughable. Wonder if they'll dare send Liz Truss over again? Grin Grin That's the trouble with filling the cabinet with die hard Johnsonian Brexiteers- we get to be represented on the world stage by incompetent nonentities like Truss.
