@Clavinova

Truss walked into a deliberate (and, yes, childish - ooh, look, both sides were behaving poorly, can I cope with that complex notion?) trap set by Lavrov, who fooled her into stating repeatedly that she thought Russia had no sovereignty over Voronezh and Rostov.

"allegedly" and "partly confirmed" - it was a closed door meeting.
The Guardian says "repeatedly" in their report but the Moscow Times says; "Truss was quickly corrected by the British Ambassador in the meeting." Why would the British Ambassador and other officials not correct her quickly?

Good question. Here's another Why should the British Ambassador and other officials need to correct the Foreign Minister on basic geography?

Ah - thanks jgw. Learn something new every day!

BoodyDedalus · 12/02/2022 17:01

@Notonthestairs

Well that's the point of a majority - you pass the legislation you want. Unless the Lords "interfere" I suppose or your Whips can't keep MP's in line.
Exactly. That's why it is pointless to say things such as "unless Johnson scraps the Fixed Term Parliament Act". It is not within his power.
ClaudineClare · 12/02/2022 17:02

Anyway, I wonder how Call-me-Churchill is getting on with his questionnaire? Will he actually fill it in or will his lawyer? We would probably get more truth if Larry filled it out.

jgw1 · 12/02/2022 17:05

@BoodyDedalus

jgw1: I would love to hear why posters think it acceptable for the 56 year old Prime Minister to have a birthday party while denying parties to millions of children.

Which posters have claimed that to be acceptable?

Oh, there's a few on these threads quite insistent on defending Johnson and saying that he has done nothing wrong, I am sure you will agree it quite boggles the mind.

Has the questionnaire not been leaked to the press yet? Shock

David Miliband - the one that got away...

Sworn at by Sergei Lavrov in September 2008 - then this trip to India in January 2009;

David Miliband was beginning to look as accident-prone as Mr Bean last night after yet another adventure backfired.

After ruining his chance of the Labour leadership by gurning at the cameras while brandishing a banana, the Foreign Secretary's visit to India last week was labelled a "disaster" by the country's leading politicians.

He was accused of being "aggressive in tone and manner" in a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and dismissed as a "young man" by senior officials.

Well since the reshuffle of course things may have changed and perhaps normal service has resumed with the Prime Minister and his government being responsible for the legislation they put before parliament. I do hope one of our resident parliamentary experts will let us know.

You sound like Johnson at PMQs - you haven't answered the question: ^which* posters? I ask because I cannot find even one who has said that the birthday party was acceptable.

As a relative newcomer to MN I expect you have not combed through threads 1 to 6 yet? I think you will find the evidence you are looking for there. You will have to wade through a lot of deflecting though.

Uh?

Since you have been unable to answer a simple question on even the third attempt, I claim that you are Boris de Pfeffel Johnson and demand my £10 reward.

Basic geography? Oh dear, I've never heard of Voronezh and Rostov before. Grin

'For example I would love to hear why posters think it acceptable for the 56 year old Prime Minister to have a birthday party '

You've misunderstood, not one person said it was acceptable. Rather it wasn't a party. As we know 10mins eating a cake in the office isn't having party. I was at Costas this morning for ooo 40mins? No party though. I had a bit of cake earlier with dc, no party was had.

The 1am do may well have been. PM wasn't there and we all now know bosses aren't responsible for their staff's failures.

It's not basic geography.

But I would imagine it's important to know such things when dealing with Russia.

Or if she wasn't sure, then to speak to her advisors whose job is to know such things.

@JaniieJones How long does one need to be at a birthday party before one is at it please? Clearly you think it is longer than 40minutes, is it 45minutes?

I have to admit that I haven't listened to all albums by The Fall because there are so many, but I think my favourite is Extricate!

Anyone else like to comment on the genius of MES? Some falls may be harder to extricate onself from than others
