@BoodyDedalus

ClaudineClare: Thread No. 5 post 396.

There are no post numbers displayed here. Please give date and time of the message if you are sure that it contains the claimed text.

There are at least 6 previous threads and 6000 odd posts on them.

Entertaining to read.

jgw1 · 12/02/2022 17:45

@BoodyDedalus

No need to look at other threads, a poster has kindly recently provided an example on this thread.

Where? What is the point of saying that without any sort of reference?

Very funny.

I do really value the contributions you are making, am so glad that you have decided to join us.

@Clavinova Lavrov’s side? No, I’m on the side of the UK having coherent and eloquent representation. I didn’t see much ‘standing up’ for anyone, what I saw was someone basically talking over someone else which is what not listening to an interpretation is.

LT’s monologue would have been great as part of an actual dialogue but it lost a lot of credibility when she couldn’t even at least wait for her cue. That’s pretty basic human communication and handing a volatile opponent the upper hand on a plate. Politics includes being aware of the subtleties of communication. What might look good in print means very little when it’s real life delivery is a public hash job.

You’ve posted an extensive history of dealings with Lavrov, there’s no excuse for such sloppy dealings from someone in her position with someone well known to be difficult.

This isn’t a situation that has room for ‘oppsies’ and it’s insulting to suggest the population should be settling for this standard of representation tbh. Whilst I don’t doubt there are media sources delighted to stick the boot in it doesn’t take much to see that material is being provided at an alarming rate by this cabinet. If they can’t deal with the media spin and turn it to their advantage that’s not exactly suggesting they’re particularly talented at the basics of what they do.

That's why I asked for a reference to the post(s) concerned. Since no usable reference has been provided, I have come to my own conclusion about the veracity of the original claim.

@BoodyDedalus

Feel free to read this thread through for some examples.

I didn't ask you for reading material, I asked you which posters have said there is nothing wrong with a 56-year old having a birthday party while denying parties to millions of children.

Since you have been unable to answer a simple question on even the third attempt, I claim that you are Boris de Pfeffel Johnson and demand my £10 reward.

We have been told by MNHQ to be more welcoming and kind so naming posters would be against the spirit of this thread

You make a good point, but there is no need to name posters = just giving a usable ID (thread, date, time) would be sufficient, if such messages actually exist.

Cornettoninja · 12/02/2022 17:56

@Clavinova

AuldAlliance Why should the British Ambassador and other officials need to correct the Foreign Minister on basic geography?

Basic geography? Oh dear, I've never heard of Voronezh and Rostov before. Grin

Huh? So you don’t think Secretary of State for foreign affairs going into talks with a Russian diplomat should have a slightly higher bar for basic knowledge than you, anonymous MN user sounding off for shits and giggles?

Standards aren’t that low surely?

In Truss' favour she actually visited Russia and wasn't on holiday when the sea closed like her predecessor.

Thank you for apologising for asking posters to do something that would probably be against MN rules and certainly is not in the spirit of kind and welcoming discussions which we want on this thread.

AuldAlliance, better to ignore. There is a search option that Boody can use if so inclined. Or they can wait for Sue Gray

It's just another derailment

AuldAlliance · 12/02/2022 18:05

I wish to retract the adjective "basic" in my post about geography above.

It applies to the "not meh" question of where the Baltic and Black Seas are, but not to Voronezh and Rostov.
That's not "basic" geography for ordinary UK citizens, in ordinary circumstances.
But for the Foreign Secretary, on a trip to Moscow...?

And, as I stated, if the head of UK diplomacy doesn't know the answer to a deliberately leading question by a well-known provocateur like Lavrov, they should be canny enough to sidestep a potentially inflammatory situation.

AuldAlliance · 12/02/2022 18:08

I've asked for my post referencing another thread to be withdrawn.
Should have known better.

Meh.

@JaniieJones

'Do you think that Liz Truss did a good job in the clip of her meeting Lavrov where she is talking over the translation?'

People are human, they make mistakes. The sneering and cheering on the Russians all because you (not you specifically just the other Russian fans on this thread) have an axe to grind with BJ is a bit desperate really.

Our media fgs asking about cake when there's an actual crisis and war imminent. But Johnson! but wallpaper! But 10 min illegal something!Confused

No one's cheering on the Russians.

They are pointing out we have a poor foreign Secretary right when we need someone with strength, knowledge and ability to work in a meeting. She's a product of this piss poor government and that's why it's relevant to this thread.

However shot or not Miliband was 14 hrs ago doesn't change the fact that Truss drowned.

itsgettingweird · 12/02/2022 18:12

@JaniieJones

'It's not either Truss or the Russians.'

Oh well thank god for that. Anyone reading this might think it was any excuse to kick the Government because of 'partygate'.

I'm so pleased you will get behind our PM and support any efforts to stabilise this situation.

I can't because I have no faith in this government.

How the feck can we trust a PM who apparently didn't know meeting indoors was against the rules (he got through parliament) to actively be part of a solution between Russia and Ukraine?

Russia have always been a hard force to reckon with and I think always the biggest threat to war in the world. They are bullies. We need decent hardworking people who can read a brief to be representing us.

That is not Boris and his cronies.

ClaudineClare · 12/02/2022 18:13

I am worried some opportunistic reporter might get the thread zapped if I say anything further and this thread ends up being a TAAT Boody. That would be a shame so perhaps we should just move on.

Peregrina · 12/02/2022 18:30

That's why it is pointless to say things such as "unless Johnson scraps the Fixed Term Parliament Act". It is not within his power.

Hair splitting, with his 76? seat majority, especially since many of his MPs now are just nodding dogs, who do as their master tells them.

I got this.

Johnson doesn't dictate what is debated or discussed in Parliament. He doesn't decide what leglisation is put to the House.

That's why they aren't his rules he broke.

Alexandra2001 · 12/02/2022 18:39

@Clavinova Miliband wasn't facing a potential 3rd World War.

Seen Truss extolling the virtues of British Cheese yet?

I'd expect any FS going with Lavrov to have some idea of the geography of the region and have advisors in with her who are experts on the region & Russian affairs.
Then again we did once have a Brexit Minister who didn't realise the importance of Dover to UK trade.

Even i have heard of Rostov and the Sea of Azov

Sometimes would nice if you could tell us what you really think instead of tiresome diversions and CnP

Its one thing not realising certain geographical facts, quite another to then make bold pronouncements on things she knows nothing about, she lacks the self-awareness to even realise she is incompetent.

Axe to grind against BJ... no, i 'd prefer to avoid another european war and keep the infants out the room whilst real diplomacy takes place away from the likes of Truss and Bojo.

To need to rely on his 76 seat majority would imply that there would be no support for an early election from the other side of the house.

...specifically there to discuss Russian troop build-up around Ukraine...

It's rather on a par with not knowing that Calais is important to UK trade.

Peregrina · 12/02/2022 18:53

I think it might be 77. Won Hartlepool so taking it up to 82 but then lost Chesham & Amersam and North Shropshire, so back down to 78, but Jack Dromey's old seat is vacant, so that takes it back up to 79 but then what's his name crossed the floor a couple of weeks ago, so back to 77.

As to how many Tories have an Independent thoughts inside their heads - I don't know. How many in the Cabinet do - zero at a guess.

'Russian fans'?? Grin

Can you point to a post where someone's supportive of Russia's actions?

Ridiculing our current Ark-B ministers isn't the same as supporting the Russians - it's acting out of despair that there's nobody left in the Conservative Party and the government of sufficient stature to command respect on the world stage.
