DSD booked afternoon tea but not paid

So it's my birthday on Saturday. DSD and her DH have booked me and DH in for posh afternoon tea on the Sunday afternoon at top restaurant.

I thanked her tonight for such a thoughtful gift etc and asked her to clarify time and is there a reference number for the gift etc

She gave me a photo of the reservation booking and said it's all booked under my name and have a wonderful time I just have to pay on the day Confused

So the gift is she reserved a table. This is so like her. She genuinely thinks she's given me a gift. I gently asked again, to be clear, I pay on the day and yes, that way I can have whatever I want.

I'm just flabbergasted.

AIBU (clearly fucking not but feel free to comment if you disagree)

Oh, and I'm going to go as I do like the place and you do have to book well in advance but never heard that making a reservation is the gift!!!!

If she was really that daft she'd be dead having stepped in front of a bus or some thing.

You r all being played.shes good. She's had you all fooled fir years. Doesn't have to work or anything. Perfect life

@Scoot75

I kind of did this once by accident Blush. I booked Afternoon Tea for Two for my FIL's birthday. I paid, sent the confirmation to PIL and they went along for their Afternoon Tea. We got a furious phonecall from PIL to say that I had only paid for one person! I didn't realise. I thought it was for 2 people.

The following year for FIL's birthday, I tried to do something nicer for them. I booked Lunch with the Llamas on a llama farm. The food looked delicious and I thought it would be a fun afternoon out for them. FIL said it was the worst experience of his life.

God, no wonder they hate me Grin !

Amazing !!!!

I think your dsd doesn’t like you very much and 100% knows what she’s doing.

pompomseverywhere · 04/02/2022 07:07

I thought you were going to say she was 9!

EishetChayil · 04/02/2022 07:09

Why would you not call her and explain to her why this is a huge faux pas?

userxx · 04/02/2022 07:12

What the fuck! Does she really think making a reservation is a gift ? Surely not.

Inthesameboatatmo · 04/02/2022 07:12

She's crazy

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/02/2022 07:13

Isn't this the ultimate in passive-aggressive behaviour?

2DogsOnMySofa · 04/02/2022 07:13

Book her in for her birthday, as it was such a 'thoughtful' gift and you enjoyed it so much you thought you'd do the same for her Grin

lololololollll · 04/02/2022 07:14

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

PurplePansy05 · 04/02/2022 07:16

She must be thinking when her friends say they booked afternoon tea for their mums that they literally just booked it and not paid!

I give up Grin Sorry you have to pay, OP. But enjoy the lovely food nevertheless! I'd do the same for her for Christmas, btw Grin

SnotRags · 04/02/2022 07:18

She sounds like an idiot. I can’t even find it funny

It's another level of non thinking !

Foolsrule · 04/02/2022 07:20

I wouldn’t find this funny or endearing at all. It’s rude, it’s passive aggressive and it really does demonstrate how little she thinks of you.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 04/02/2022 07:21

I love how she turns it that you pay that way you can choose what you want . Honestly op the reason why people glide through life like that is because nobody ever pulls them up on things like this . She’s got away with it because you accept she’s a bit dense , really just point it out it’s not a gift just a reservation because You’ve not paid .

SalsaLove · 04/02/2022 07:21

I know someone who once gave her mother a plaque with a quote about how precious daughters are, for Mother’s Day. I tried to explain that’s not how it works and she accused me of being judgmental.

Yes definitely give the dense mare something to think about .
rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 04/02/2022 07:24

I found that quite funny. I feel like she knows what she's doing, and maybe don't really like you, or care for you. But it's up to you to let her treat you like this or not.

Thelazygoat · 04/02/2022 07:25

Perhaps people should stop treating this grown woman like a child. Helplessness may be cute if your young and beautiful but when her looks start to fade and male support disappears she will still need to be able to function in the world. She is either playing dumb and doing it so well noone ever expects anything from her or she really is this out of touch. Either way it is far from funny.

😂
Gardeningcreature · 04/02/2022 07:28

I cannot believe any one would do this. Do exactly the same to her for her birthday/Christmas.

Toanewstart22 · 04/02/2022 07:29

You can see it OP

But you have totally been caught up in her clever ploy

You describe her as beautiful
Lovely
We’d all really like her
Blah blah blah

No. I wouldn’t like her.

Toanewstart22 · 04/02/2022 07:29

You can’t see it

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/02/2022 07:29

If she really is that cocooned in life, then perhaps making a booking on her own is a massive achievement (and she would therefore consider it a gift).
