OK I’m showing my age but I have just seen some videos of this ‘musician/singer’, I’m completely stunned. How on earth are our kids supposed to have standards when this crap is being peddled as music.

In the olden days Madonna was a rebel, I feel so sorry for our girls as they see these ‘role models’ daily! Dreadful!

Didn't watch 'WAP' did you?? In true MN words, that was grim!

samsalmon · 03/02/2022 17:01

People will be along to eye roll at you in a minute and tell you to try and keep up, but I 100% agree with you. And it’s our girls who suffer the most.

Hamjamwich · 03/02/2022 17:01

It's just another type of erotic dancing isn't it ? And our kids watch it and ate influenced by it

Just had a brief look now 🤢 I cannot believe this is not X rated stuff! No wonder more and more teens feel under pressure.

Yes as the mum of two daughters, I despair!

I agree and I feel like porn has a lot to answer for.

drpet49 · 03/02/2022 17:09

Absolute trash

Interrobanger · 03/02/2022 17:09

The thing that’s most upsetting about MTS is that she is insanely talented. She’s been a battle rapper for years and she’s an amazing lyricist.

It’s a testament to our shorty society that she couldn’t get to where she is on pure talent alone and she had to collude in her own objectification in order to be heard.

SummaLuvin · 03/02/2022 17:09

Maybe not everyone in the public eye is obligated to be a 'role model' to your daughters. That's not her job. She is an entertainer/performer/singer, and whether or not MN agree, many people do find her entertaining.

Interrobanger · 03/02/2022 17:09

*Shitty society. Not shorty.

lykkelaa · 03/02/2022 17:10

I think she's very talented but frequently find I turn the music channel on & think i've stumbled across soft porn.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/02/2022 17:13

It's not my kind of music but when the WAP song came out I thought she was a very talented rapper, and enjoyed her sections much more than Cardi B's.

That song was such a marketing ploy, all the hype and it was actually incredibly dull without the music video and not the 'new frontier of female empowerment' that it was made out to be. As if female rappers have never done any songs about sex before O_o.

She completed her education before launching her career, she does a lot of charitable work and makes a lot of donations particularly to charities that benefit/support women and/or those in poverty, and her personal mission is to open and fund assisted living facilities in her home town/state (her training was in health administration). Yes she dances in teeny tiny clothes and her lyrics are sexual but so what? Male rappers have been singing about their dicks for decade now, it's about time women felt free to rap about their WAPs if they want to. Her music is clearly labelled as explicit so if you don't want your kids listening to it, well, don't let them.

SummaLuvin · 03/02/2022 17:16

while I do think we should question why female empowerment looks a lot like the male fantasy, that is a much broader, deeper, and complex societal issue that we can't lay at MTS door.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/02/2022 17:21

I like her.

changeling86 · 03/02/2022 17:27

Not keen on the style of music but I'm fascinated watching her. How do you make your bum cheeks move like that?! It's impressive.

Very well said!

Im in Houston so I've been hearing about her for a while. She does a great deal for the community here and I have loads of admiration for her.

SaySomethingMan · 03/02/2022 17:28

Not sure why you’re singling her out. From what I understand she’s in the same league as CardiB and Nikki Minage. Did you see WAP? I saw a few minutes of it, my poor eyes!
It’s what some people want to see. Thankfully, it’s not everyone.

It’s not hard if your bum is big though Grin
twoladsnow · 03/02/2022 17:29

Didn't we all used to sing Sex on the Beach and Ebeneezer Goode from the tops of our lungs?

BorderlineHappy · 03/02/2022 17:30

I don't understand why she's being touted as a role model.
She's a grown woman who doesn't have to think about kids or parents finding it offensive.
It's up to you to censor what your kids see or hear.

Crimeismymiddlename · 03/02/2022 17:32

I don’t know, she is clever and educated. Cardi B is also clever as well as being very savvy. They both have an insane work ethic. Cardi in particular is tough. I can think of worse people for little girls to look up to.
Music videos have always objectified women, so
really the main issue is that this is the marketing that works. That’s not MTS or Cardi’s fault.
People never complain about the gloryfying of violence/murder/drugs or bad behaviour towards women on male artists videos and how they are ‘role models’ for little boys.

This. Why does a young woman, single, no children, enjoying her life need to be a role model to everyone else's kids?

That’s good to know and food for thought.

I remember Obama giving a tribute about Nipsey Hussle, saying there was more to him than his rap persona. I’m guilty of not looking deep enough so this is a good reminder for me.

Ahh so it’s ok then. Sorry I’m obviously being a mardy old cow. I don’t care what other male rappers have sung about their dicks. In my opinion it’s just all too much whether male or female.

I just think there’s no standards anymore. Its worrying this seems to be a social norm.
