OK I’m showing my age but I have just seen some videos of this ‘musician/singer’, I’m completely stunned. How on earth are our kids supposed to have standards when this crap is being peddled as music.

In the olden days Madonna was a rebel, I feel so sorry for our girls as they see these ‘role models’ daily! Dreadful!

Madonna has got various photos showing off her new butt implants.

If you don’t want to watch/listen then that’s fine but men have had women dancing naked/half naked in their videos for years.

It’s about time females felt empowered and sexy on their own.

NurseButtercup · 03/02/2022 17:42

Yup you are definitely showing your age annnnnd you've only focussed on her visual aesthetic. If you listen to what she's saying, she's promoting female empowerment & independence via the themes of sex positivity, body positivity & challenging misogyny. This female empowerment message is not lost on the young teenagers who are her fans.

Her music is not my cup of tea AT ALL but, I'm glad she's around to counter the drivel some of the popular male rap artists produce. This video is worth looking at to hear her explain her approach:

SummaLuvin · 03/02/2022 17:44

I just think there’s no standards anymore. Its worrying this seems to be a social norm.

Suggesting someones worth or standards or intrinsically linked to their sexuality is problematic.

That aside, people feel differently about different things, and you being more conservative and not liking overtly sexual lyrics and videos is valid. I do also agree that the way women are portrayed in media can put extra pressure on young girls to be 'sexy'. However, sexualisation and objectification of women in the media is not the sole fault of MTS, it's completely built into western society, even if you were to entirely censor MTS the problem would still exist to the same extent.

Pedalpushers · 03/02/2022 17:47

Madonna published a book called SEX full of pictures of her completely naked?

Krustykrabpizza · 03/02/2022 17:48

Seems like these women actually have a lot of influence on Madonna herself.

I agree with pp, it's not her job to be a role model and there is far.more than meets the eye with female rappers. I think they're great.

BorderlineHappy · 03/02/2022 17:49

@Ispini this is their public persona.
As long as they are decent people overall that should be more important.

After all having a nice image can hide a multitude of sins.
Jimmy Saville springs to mind there

WitchyStarLight · 03/02/2022 17:53

So glad my dd likes pop punk rather than this.

I actually quite like it, but then I grew up with lil Kim ect so I quite like dancing around at home pretending to be sexy GrinGrinGrin but I agree with young girls emulating this.

VeganVampire · 03/02/2022 17:55

Well I'm old enough to have had to google cardi b, mts and wap as have heard of none of it, but am also old enough to remember the total outrage about Boy George when Culture Club hit the charts in the 80's. Elvis shocked everyone with his outrageously inappropriate hip swinging (not old enough for that bit), so nothing is new ,especially parental disapproval of current 'so-called music' and it's influences.

theqentity · 03/02/2022 17:56

Ok so in 1965 a band released a single about not being able to have sex with a girl because she was on her period, that single was (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.

Twenty years ago, a prominent female rapper released a single containing the lyrics 'I need to shave my cha cha' 'Go downtown and eat it like vulture', and that single was Work It by Missy Elliott.

And these are just the first two songs off the top of my head that contain very explicit sexual references. Music has forever been thus.

So can't really understand all the pearl clutching over MTS. At least she is a well educated, successful black woman achieving in a mainly male industry. I applaud her for that.

theqentity · 03/02/2022 17:57

@twoladsnow

Didn't we all used to sing Sex on the Beach and Ebeneezer Goode from the tops of our lungs?
Exactly! Es are good ffs!
PonyPatter44 · 03/02/2022 17:58

People never complain about the gloryfying of violence/murder/drugs or bad behaviour towards women on male artists videos and how they are ‘role models’ for little boys.

I think people DO complain, actually, an awful lot. Grime and drill lyrics in particular are hideously misogynistic and violent.

1smallhamsterfoot · 03/02/2022 18:01

Oh do fuck off just cos someone’s in the public eye they’re not obligated to be role models for your children

BorderlineHappy · 03/02/2022 18:01

As long as they themselves are behind it,I've no problem with it.

Madonna pushed the boundaries for all women in music to be whoever they want to be.
And they are just doing that

theqentity · 03/02/2022 18:04

I don't give a shit about Madonna's butt implants, if she wants to spend her money on that stuff it makes absolutely no odds to me. If she wants to post pics of them all over Instagram I can just scroll past.

Hospedia · 03/02/2022 18:07

To be fair, I think she is a role model and one I wouldn't have an issue with my DC following when they're old enough to be aware of such things. Educated, strong work ethic, socially conscious, principled, and believes in giving back.

Guavaf1sh · 03/02/2022 18:11

Ben Shapiro agrees with you OP

CupOfNiceTea · 03/02/2022 18:19

She’s horrible.

Absolutely classles.

I mean Salt n Peppa Push It is hardly the paragon on female modesty either. It's as if women singing about sex is a new thing.

Generations of women have made real sacrifices over generations. Some women from this generation are going to throw them away in a decade.

I've watched the video for Lick.
I bet a very large number of mem would really enjoy watched, probably with the sound down.

CovidCorvid · 03/02/2022 18:24

The thing which bugs me about her the most is the use of "thee" rather than "the" Grin

EllaVaNight · 03/02/2022 18:25

Men have rapped about their penis' for decades but as soon as a woman does the same about her vulva she's apparently failing our children.

Also you do realise the amount of charity work etc she does?

changeling86 · 03/02/2022 18:26

Plenty of music wasn't appropriate for kids in my day. It was a different style but still.

I was a teen in the old grunge years and there was a shitload of drugs/death/suicide/guns/self harm in the lyrics.

I can't see how MTS is worse than that, she's just getting a harder time because she's a woman with her bum out. It's a great bum, she's a great rapper and dancer, she donates a ton to charity. Good for her.

Set restrictions on YouTube/Spotify etc, but the kids are going to come across this music at some point.

EllaVaNight · 03/02/2022 18:27

I'd also rather females having a sexuality was spoken about rather than what you usually get which is telling us we should be ashamed to have a sex drive.

BorderlineHappy · 03/02/2022 18:30

@changeling86 I agree sexy and risque lyrics where always around.
You only have to see topics on MN about singing songs when you're a kid.
Then finding out the meaning years later🤣
You only have to look at Justify My Love,Erotica them songs are 30 years old.
So it's not a new thing by any stretch.
