Boris - new low

Obviously he's running scared from his own side as well and Labour and the excellent contribution from Ian Blackford - no doubt Dennis Skinner would have done the same if still an MP.

However, there was no need for Johnson to stoop to the level of more lies - this time trying smear Kier Starmer with untrue allegations about Jimmy Savile.

I guess as starmer had absolutely zero responsibility in his position he should never have apologised then really .

I would like to take the opportunity to apologise for the shortcomings in the part played by the CPS in these cases. If this report and my apology are to serve their full purpose, then this must be seen as a watershed moment."

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2022 18:12

It is both fascinating and rather awful to see far right tropes being amplified in this country by Johnson and then repeated here. I wonder who these people are who feel the need to take us down the same path that the far right in the States tread.

I also wonder how far the Tories are willing to take this.

As CounsellorTroi so succinctly puts it "Its a lie".

I think the phone in i mentioned was last Thursday ? But I might be wrong

WendyTreetops · 01/02/2022 18:15

Alexandra2001
No, you're getting confused. Starmer was Director of Public Prosecutions at the time, which is Head of the Crown Prosecution Service. The DPP is appointed by the Attorney General. So the buck stops with Starmer on this one even if he wasn't involved in the case. People are undermining their case here by lying about the facts.

GatoradeMeBitch · 01/02/2022 18:15

It's funny how such a monarchy arselicker will grasp for Jimmy Savile's name to try to save himself. Ask him about Charles and Savile and he'd turn apoplectic at the audacity. I bet the royals are loving him for dragging that name up again right now.

Can we please find a fridge for Boris to hide in till this all blows over?

SueSaid · 01/02/2022 18:16

God, first question at the Ukraine press conference was from a UK reporter asking BJ about partygate. Our media are an utter embarrassment.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 01/02/2022 18:19

Yes indeed @OhYouBadBadKitten -
Britain Trump.

user1471538283 · 01/02/2022 18:19

Johnson is a liar and at the moment desperate and backed into a corner. He is incapable of being anything that isnt about deflecting to save his own skin. He and his lot just hold us in contempt.

Porfre · 01/02/2022 18:20

Tory sleaze

Alexandra2001 · 01/02/2022 18:21

Johnsons "low" was when he fathered children and fucked off, leaving them with no male roll model and them knowing he rejected them.

He didn't just do this once but several times

Whatever he said to Starmer is small change compared to this.

So long as we can shut the door very firmly.

Diddums, poor much maligned Johnson. He deserves everything he gets.

Just like our Prime Minister.

If BJ had owned up to his "errors" back in December, this would have blown over before xmas, he only has himself to blame.

But seriously, what do you think BJ will do to inflame defuse the situation?

I didn't see that bit but can imagine 🙄Putin is on the verge of invading the Ukraine which could have far reaching consequences and the reporters asking ask about the number 10 parties ,they are like a dog with a bone .
Clavinova · 01/02/2022 18:32

the same path that the far right in the States tread

Just to point out that the Full Fact article links to the Sun newspaper;

www.thesun.co.uk/news/11639371/sir-keir-starmer-jimmy-savile-scandal/

George Monbiot writes about Keir Starmer in the Guardian if you want some balance (Tomlinson case 2010);

kickupafuss · 01/02/2022 18:34

Johnson rarely appears on TV interviews - probably because he is such a car crash.

Notonthestairs · 01/02/2022 18:34

www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/dec/10/lies-accusations-boris-johnson-full-list-dishonesty-christmas-party

Barely scratches the surface. Written in December last year and already out of date.

What BJ is asked or not is irrelevant, the UK has a total of 23k infantry, we are a small military power.

But the only person to blame is BJ, he hasn't acted like a PM at all.

longwayoff · 01/02/2022 18:39

Hopefully, most MNers have reported the constant repetition through this thread of the ABSOLUTE LIE the QAnon nutter on here keeps repeating. MN, I'm sure, can't afford an expensive libel suit.

mumwon · 01/02/2022 18:45

Hmm if we can claim against Keir (which I def do NOT agree with!) than we should blame PM's for whatever goes wrong in ANY government department because that correlates with that kind of blame game
Mind as Conservatives under Boris have directly orchestrated some unpleasant social disadvantaging & dishonest practices....

Boris is the dog dirt under shoes & that's an insult to the dog
I think that when mp's got up to accuse him of dishonestly they should have taken a leaf from Mark Anthony's speech in Julius Caesar ...
Boris interchanges with Brutus quite well

Starter bears ultimate responsibility for the organisation which he was leading. Which is why, once he became aware of the situation, he ordered a review and then apologised for the shortcomings found in the report. This is a reasonable and proportionate response from the head of the organisation to mistakes made by a small number of staff members (out of literally thousands). To say, or strongly imply, that he had a personal role in making a decision (when he evidently did not) is slander. Weasel words (or “choosing carefully”) aren’t sufficient to defend against slander, which is why MPs are not willing to repeat what Johnson said when they don’t have parliamentary privilege.

Johnson bears ultimate responsibility for what happens at number 10 and in government. Despite being fully aware of the rule breaking parties, he has repeatedly refused to apologise properly and has lied and obfuscated about his knowledge and understanding of the situation. The lies and obfuscation were sufficient to mislead Parliament. That is completely unacceptable, and for any previous PM (whether Conservative or Labour) it would be enough to resign. But he won’t because he lacks integrity. And his MPs won’t get rid of him because they put career before country.

Incidentally, there are plenty of card-carrying conservatives who are appalled by Johnson’s partying and his failure to take responsibility. And it was a conservative (Churchill) who said that the priority of every MP should be country, then constituency and then party.

StoneofDestiny · 01/02/2022 19:02

Reuters Fact Check

There is no evidence to suggest Sir Keir Starmer, then DPP of the CPS, was directly involved in the decision not to prosecute Jimmy Savile

StoneofDestiny · 01/02/2022 19:04

Johnson attempted to smear Starmer - it's backfired badly as many Tories and The Speaker have expressed their displeasure at what he said - knowing it to be untrue.

Big worry now is we clearly cannot trust Johnson even to control what goes on in 10 Downing St - yet he's bobbed off to Russia to try and control what they are doing 😱
