Boris - new low

Obviously he's running scared from his own side as well and Labour and the excellent contribution from Ian Blackford - no doubt Dennis Skinner would have done the same if still an MP.

However, there was no need for Johnson to stoop to the level of more lies - this time trying smear Kier Starmer with untrue allegations about Jimmy Savile.

@SamphiretheStickerist

I haven't said Starmer was responsible for Savile not being prosecuted. And nor did Johnson. As usual he chose his weasel words well.

But what he did actually say yesterday was not a lie!

It was a lie
Notonthestairs · 01/02/2022 17:54

Ultimate head of CPS is Attorney General.

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 01/02/2022 17:54

@AmbushedByCake1 @sadpapercourtesan

I agree with you both so much.

UnconditionalSurrender · 01/02/2022 17:55

You'd think the Tory Party wouldnt be bringing up Jimmy Savile. He was was a big mate of Margaret Thatcher, knighted by her and campaigned for them.

Plus Johnson said investigating old child abuse cases was just spaffing money against a wall.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 17:55

James o Brien last week did a phone in ' what's the worst thing that Boris Johnson has done '
It was a fairly long list.
Yesterday's lie about Kier Starmer is now to be added.
At least Boris Johnson could have checked his facts first. Sadly he never does

WitchWithoutChips · 01/02/2022 17:55

It is really fucked up that parliamentary privilege enables Johnson to slander Starmer but that anyone who points out his lies is ‘unparliamentary’ in their behaviour and told to leave the chamber.

Unsure33 · 01/02/2022 17:56

@Notonthestairs

Ultimate head of CPS is Attorney General.
Thank you for that .did he apologise for how it was handled as well then ?
CovidCorvid · 01/02/2022 17:57

Yes, even when he’s supposed to be apologising for criminal activity and lying to parliament he stands up and tells more lies. 🤷‍♀️

Alexandra2001 · 01/02/2022 17:58

@LadyEloise1

I'm living in Ireland and wouldn't know a whole lot about UK politics and politicians. I heard what Boris said about Keir Starmer on Sky News or BBC news and was pretty shocked by it and it did colour my view then of Keir Starmer. So it's not true ?
The authorities had decades to prosecute Saville, they didn't.

Even if he had been prosecuted when Starmer was DPP, Saville had but a short time to live, he was 82 and died aged 84.

His friendship with Maggie Thatcher was well known as was reports of sexual abuse but covered up long before Starmer.

WendyTreetops · 01/02/2022 17:58

As others have said, it was a reprehensible thing for Johnson to say, but it wasn't actually a lie. Starmer failed to prosecute Savile in the same way that Johnson failed to ensure procedures were followed when procuring PPE. If you're head of an organisation, the buck stops with you.

How interesting that he was sacked twice as a journalist for the tabloids for lying

He was sacked by the Times aged 23 (trainee reporter) - not from any other newspapers as far as I am aware.

The other sacking discussed here -

Former Tory leader Lord Howard said that he was “not sure” that he had taken the right decision in 2004 to sack the then shadow junior minister Boris Johnson...

"and the excellent contribution from Ian Blackford'"
Blackford was brilliant. So glad you agree.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 01/02/2022 18:00

@mbosnz

Is the Head of Social Services supposed to have direct knowledge and oversight of every single decision made by a social worker?

PMSL, as if our revered leaders in Government have been held accountable for their own actions and decisions, let alone somebody elses!

They will have knowledge in potentially very high profile cases.
BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 01/02/2022 18:01

Johnson can't get any lower. Everyone knows exactly what he is. The stupid tories are absolutely insane to retain him as leader.

Still, it means they'll lose the next election though so we'll have to just put up with it.

Bring on the next round of fuck ups.

Stupid is as stupid does.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 01/02/2022 18:02

I mean seriously, it's one rule for Johnson and another for Starmer
I mean seriously, it really isn't.
Johnson lied to parliament and the Queen and to all of us.
Johnson has made some very offensive statements.
Starmer hasn't done any of that.

So, even when learning his trade, he was a liar - thanks for confirming what we all knew.

Not sure....? thats what my gran would call Dammed with faint praise

He is a liar, we know it and so do you Clavinova

Kendodd · 01/02/2022 18:03

I don't think it's worth arguing with the posters saying Johnson wasn't lying tbh.
It's like arguing with anti vaxxers, they are completely immune to facts.

Hi, do you happen to recall what day that was, I will listen back thanks.
SueSaid · 01/02/2022 18:04

'Blackford was brilliant. So glad you agree.'

Well I was laughing at the comment rather than agreeing. Poor Bunter Blackford, bellows 'resiiiiiiign prime minister RESIGN!!' Every single week. He's like a pantomime baddie.

I feel sorry for him tbh I'm not sure he realises how ridiculous he comes across.

Alexandra2001 · 01/02/2022 18:04

That would be the Attorney General - NOT Starmer.
mbosnz · 01/02/2022 18:05

Good to have that clarified, thanks Clavinova!

Clavinova · 01/02/2022 18:06

James o Brien last week did a phone in ' what's the worst thing that Boris Johnson has done '

James O'Brien accused Boris Johnson of calling other MPs "traitors" - but then retracted that claim because it wasn't true. After the death of Sir David Amess, Lisa Nandy wrongly accused Boris Johnson of calling other MPs "traitors" - when is she going to apologise?

Kendodd · 01/02/2022 18:08

He is a liar, we know it and so do you Clavinova

Actually, I don't think she does. I really genuinely think she believes everything Johnson says. I don't think s/he just trying to defend him anyway she can, I think she believes him, I don't think it's just that she doesn't care about the lying or his character.

Clavinova · 01/02/2022 18:08

James O'Brien accused Boris Johnson of calling other MPs "traitors"

(NB that wasn't last week)

HarrietPierce · 01/02/2022 18:08

JaniieJones

"Bunter Blackford"

You sound about 12.
