Boris - new low

Obviously he's running scared from his own side as well and Labour and the excellent contribution from Ian Blackford - no doubt Dennis Skinner would have done the same if still an MP.

However, there was no need for Johnson to stoop to the level of more lies - this time trying smear Kier Starmer with untrue allegations about Jimmy Savile.

Johnson's smear, specifically the implied assertion that KS was responsible for failure to prosecute, was a lie.
He knows it (hence backtracking at a rate of knots), his MPs know it, and Munira Mirza knows it (and has explicitly stated that there was "no fair or reasonable basis for that assertion").

Describing the smear as "not a lie" is disingenuous at best, dishonest at worst.

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque
No, what he said was not a lie, as has been conceded elsewhere on this thread. You're being disingenuous at best, dishonest at worst, in claiming it was.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 03/02/2022 16:33

Just you and Nads still standing then, Wendy!

@longwayoff

Thank you *@daimbarsatemydogsbone*, some posters on this thread are over-invested and MN is happy to delete at their request. Odd.
I have no idea why you're thanking me, but you're welcome.

Maybe not a lie, but certainly not honest, as many on here, including myself have pointed out.

Lockedoorsopen · 03/02/2022 16:54

Cressenda Dick is getting dragged over the coals because of what police officers where doing/saying. She probably had never heard of them or even knew they existed. Yet the buck stops with her.

Yet Keir didnt even have a look in when one of the U.Ks biggest names where being investigated for disgusting crimes ....crimes which were well know about - for a very long time - and a very badly kept secret? Yet its nothing to do with Keir when he, like Cressenda was in charge? Nah I don't buy it.

Yes Boris is absolutely using this to sling mud - but do I believe that Keir wasn't aware Savile wasn't being investigated - no chance. I mean honestly how hard would it have been to scratch the bloody surface of what that grotesque monster was doing? They are all part of the big boys club - don't kid yourself to think they are not.

This was thrown around long before Boris said it. Tbh it reminds of something that Angela Raynor would shout in her battle cries.

Lockedoorsopen · 03/02/2022 16:55

Parker231 · 03/02/2022 16:56

Is this still going!

It was a lie - other members of the CPS have said it was (I think they have a better understanding of the position than Mn posters), as have other Tory MP’s and experts in the field.

Boris also knows it and only said to get press coverage and he’s protected from prosecution for slander.

I've asserted that Johnson's comment was reprehensible but not a lie, and that remains the case. Where do you stand on dishonesty I wonder?
@WendyTreetops You want me to highlight dishonest posts to you, here's another.

Don't fall into their trap.

A dictionary definition of a lie is

"an intentionally false statement."

Which seems an entirely accurate description of what Boris said.

Who is Cressenda Dick?😃

Lockedoorsopen you should be careful, your post is veering into slander.

jgw1 · 03/02/2022 17:11

The slur was not factually false though. You're being dishonest again in claiming it was. You've had the situation explained to you several times on this thread.
The reason that Jimmy Saville was not prosecuted has nothing to do with Keir Starmer, so the slur is quite clearly false.

I have no idea why you insist on saying otherwise, but it is not a good look.

Be careful of who? Do I need to be scared?...

So you concede it was not a lie. Which is what I've always maintained despite a number of less honest posters trying to move the goalposts to whether it was an acceptable or fair thing to say.
Not what I said. It was said in the spirit of a slur and it was dishonest because it wasn’t qualified. As you rightly point out, he didn’t say that Keir Starmer knew about the Savile matter. But he knew it was a matter of record that he didn’t and he did not qualify that. We’re splitting hairs about something that was dishonest. And as many have said on here, no one wants to repeat it outside the confines of Westminster. That, and the fact that his head of policy has just resigned over the matter says it all. You might want to read the portions of her resignation letter that have been published - you might learn something.
