Boris - new low

Obviously he's running scared from his own side as well and Labour and the excellent contribution from Ian Blackford - no doubt Dennis Skinner would have done the same if still an MP.

However, there was no need for Johnson to stoop to the level of more lies - this time trying smear Kier Starmer with untrue allegations about Jimmy Savile.

And why should the actions taken or not taken against a vile paedophile, dead for more than ten years, but who the Tories were glad to trot out as a supporter at election time, be used against Starmer? Unless the intention was to besmirch Starmer?

Come on, Johnson and chums, or supporters here - go off and find all those parties that Corbyn attended which the Police are now investigating. Even then, Corbyn didn't make the rules. Johnson's Government did.

AmbushedByCake1 · 03/02/2022 17:20

What did the marvellous Boris say about historic child abuse investigations?

He said it was 'spaffing money up the wall'. So that's how much he cares about abused children 👍

The deal was you were going to prefix your posts with an acknowledgement you were being dishonest. You should have stuck to that.

Starmer was head of CPS at the time of the decision, as has been explained to you multiple times. It is accepted as part of political discourse that senior public servants can be held responsible for actions of their departments even if it's accepted that they had no personal involvement in those actions. Again, as has been explained to you multiple times. Do you need a picture book to help you through these concepts?

You should have restricted yourself to agreeing with me that the slur was reprehensible instead of falsely claiming it was a lie. You should also have avoided being deceitful about covid death tolls. We can see the sort of person you are.
I often think that one can tell that someone is losing an argument when they resort to personal attacks.

I am going to leave my interactions with this poster here, because it is entirely pointless trying to have a rationale discussion with them.

@Lockedoorsopen

Cressenda Dick is getting dragged over the coals because of what police officers where doing/saying. She probably had never heard of them or even knew they existed. Yet the buck stops with her.

Yet Keir didnt even have a look in when one of the U.Ks biggest names where being investigated for disgusting crimes ....crimes which were well know about - for a very long time - and a very badly kept secret? Yet its nothing to do with Keir when he, like Cressenda was in charge? Nah I don't buy it.

Yes Boris is absolutely using this to sling mud - but do I believe that Keir wasn't aware Savile wasn't being investigated - no chance. I mean honestly how hard would it have been to scratch the bloody surface of what that grotesque monster was doing? They are all part of the big boys club - don't kid yourself to think they are not.

This was thrown around long before Boris said it. Tbh it reminds of something that Angela Raynor would shout in her battle cries.

And by the same token, Boris tried to deny any knowledge of the parties going on under lockdown, on his watch. And the true scale of Savile’s crimes were not known until after his death. Before that, a total of five were brought to the attention of the CPS - one was dropped by the police and the rest were not prosecuted for lack of evidence and the fact that the complainants were not prepared to support prosecution. The subsequent report commissioned by Starmer himself found that had they been handled better and the complainants made aware that other complaints had been made, they may have got some prosecutions. There was no evidence of any wrongdoing and no evidence that any of the cases got beyond the lawyers reviewing the cases - there was no reason to make the DPP aware of them because they were like thousands of others in that there wasnt enough evidence to secure a conviction. Nice to see conspiracy theory is alive and well.

You can avoid admitting outright that it wasn't a lie if you want but the truth is you've conceded the point even if you refuse to say it. It was a pathetic slur intended to unjustifiably lower Starmer's reputation but that does not make it a lie.
If you say so Wendy. I’ll admit defeat if it’ll stop you burbling on.

So why did Boris drag it up again?
and it's Rayner.

Amazed at all the extra people being added (Rayner, Dick) for no apparent reason.

Savile was undoubtedly in league with some corrupt coppers, that wasn't Starmer's fault.

But Johnson's modus operandi is to make remarks which might not be the letter of a lie but in spirit are. He won't repeat them outside Parliament because he knows that he could be sued for slander.

People saying that Johnson is a liar are on stronger ground because it's a matter of public record that he's been sacked twice for lying.

Sunak has distanced himself a few miles from Johnson's slur against Starmer. I think that is very telling.
Peregrina · 03/02/2022 17:43

People have been saying that the end is nigh for Johnson for a few weeks now, but still he clings on. The Boris Downfall thread is on to No. 5 now and over 700 posts long.

Who else has been quiet or is distancing themselves? Patel, Truss (off sick with Covid apparently.)?

What I want to know is whether Boris and Carrie are going to have a leaving party in the flat tonight to celebrate Munira's leaving.
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 03/02/2022 17:45

For anyone claiming Johnson's behaviour in trying to smear Starmer was all "just part of political discourse", here's what Munira Mirza who resigned today had to say -

"I believe it was wrong for you to imply this week that Keir Starmer was personally responsible for allowing Jimmy Savile to escape justice.

"There was no fair or reasonable basis for that assertion. This was not the usual cut and thrust of politics; it was an inappropriate and partisan reference to a horrendous case of child sex abuse.

"You tried to clarify your position today but, despite my urging, you did not apologise for the misleading impression you gave."

She has honour and integrity, he has none.

Basically the entire cabinet apart from Dorries.

No doubt they will, with Carrie doing a DJ set of shite ABBA songs as usual.

Parker231 · 03/02/2022 17:47

@jgw1 - have you not had your email invite to the leaving party - it’s in Boris’s flat, make sure you call in at Tesco’s for some drinks to bring with you!

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 03/02/2022 17:53

In the long run it might be better for the country if Johnson stays, as long as he continues to tarnish the reputation of the Tory party so much that they aren't re-elected next time. Perhaps we could then get a government that cares about the UK and all the people in it rather than the interests of a few millionaires.

The obviously always super honest Boris (one of his qualities no doubt Wink ) has this afternoon been rebuked by UK Statistics Authority for mispresenting crime stats...

Absolutely. I’m intrigued to see how bad it has to get before they kick him out.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliiffe a prime example of ineptitude

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliiffe lost her final appeal against her five-year prison sentence six months before Boris Johnson 'misspoke'.

You do of course know, @Clavinova, that in situations like this the legal process is not the last word. Johnson effectively encouraged Iran to put a stop to the diplomatic process of getting her released.

Plus, those 5 years expired last year and she is still in prison.

Honestly, this poor woman has been in prison and separated from her child and husband for far too long, and Johnson's blind stupidity undoubtedly contributed to that. Are there no depths to which his defenders won't sink?
