White Rabbits

Mooey89 · 01/02/2022 08:34

Help settle a very important debate with scientific data of an AIBU poll.

My colleague (hull) said that on the 1st month you say ‘white rabbit’ x 3 for good luck.
The rest of us (southern) had never heard it before.
So, have you heard it/do you say it, and if so, where in the country are you?

YANBU - Yes I say it, I’m northern
YABU - I say it and I’m southern

Thanks 😂

YANBU

Fizzbo · 01/02/2022 08:38

I’m Northern and say it but I live down South and have heard people here say it too. I don’t think it’s just a Northern thing.

LydiaFTM · 01/02/2022 08:39

Midlands and I say it, only once though not 3 times!

Hallowbat · 01/02/2022 08:39

Northern here and I do it every month

saveforthat · 01/02/2022 08:40

We used to say it when we were kids (SE). Also a pinch and a punch for the first day of the month, with an actual pinch and punch.

FluffyBooBoo · 01/02/2022 08:41

I can't vote as I don't say it.

lilyfire · 01/02/2022 08:41

Am a southerner. You are meant to say white rabbits three times on the first of the month and it means that no one can do the pinch, punch the first of the month thing to you if you do. It hadn’t occurred to me that not everyone does this.

Silkierabbit · 01/02/2022 08:42

From midlands and say white rabbit first thing in the month once when there is an r in the month for good luck.

Vaxhubsandwich · 01/02/2022 08:43

My dad always says this, we grew up in the North but he's from London originally.

Darbs76 · 01/02/2022 08:46

Haha I had a conversation on the way to school with DD today (we live in the south but I’m from the north). She hadn’t heard of it

LittleMissA · 01/02/2022 08:47

I'm down south, I thought you had to say white rabbit once as the first thing you said in the morning to get good luck for the rest of the month.

ANameChangeAgain · 01/02/2022 08:47

Just one white rabbits in the Midlands.
My children prefer pinch, punch, first of the month, which always gets out of hand!

userxx · 01/02/2022 08:48

Just one white rabbit for me in the NW.

Darbs76 · 01/02/2022 08:48

Yes and it means no-one can punch you if you say it first

Infinitemoon · 01/02/2022 08:49

I say it once Smile white rabbbits, not rabbit and have to say it as the first word uttered that day. If I have already spoken it doesn't count.

WelcomeEverythingIsFine · 01/02/2022 08:49

I’m northern and always aim to do it, but it only works if it’s the first thing you say on the 1st and I always forget 🤦‍♀️😆

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 01/02/2022 08:50

@LydiaFTM

Midlands and I say it, only once though not 3 times!
This - never heard of 3 times.
Ponoka7 · 01/02/2022 08:50

I grew up saying it. My GM, born 1910 used to argue that it was only the first of March that it should be said. We haven't carried on the tradition with the GC.

DrunkenKoala · 01/02/2022 08:50

Northerner here and I grew up saying it, like pp just say it for the months that have an R in it. I now live in the south with southerner DP and he’d never heard of it.

PeskyRooks · 01/02/2022 08:51

Yeah you quickly say white rabbits first so no-one can pinch punch you (that gets out of hand in my house too with two teenagers)

I also do the rabbit shape with hands at the same time

LovejoysVase · 01/02/2022 08:52

No, that’s not how it goes.

It’s pinch punch first of the month, white rabbits.

PeskyRooks · 01/02/2022 08:52

I'm in the south btw

BooksAndHooks · 01/02/2022 08:54

South and I’ve heard of it but not something I say or know anybody that does.

Always pinch punch first of the month.

megletthesecond · 01/02/2022 08:57

I'm southern and say it once. Said it just after the radio 4 pips at midnight.

Livpool · 01/02/2022 08:57

YANBU- we only say it once though. I think it supposed to be the first thing you say
